He took me under his wing, he’s been a mentor to me ever since through my playing career, starting on the European Tour and then the PGA Tour. And when I started broadcasting, he did the same. So, Nick, thanks so much for everything that you’ve done for me. Every time I sit in this chair, as lead analyst, I will be thinking of you.

Phil Mickelson made golf history on Sunday, winning the PGA Championship to not only earn his sixth major title but also become the oldest player ever to win a major tournament.
The 50-year-old veteran broke a record that has stood since 1968, when Julius Boros won the PGA Championship in 1968 at the age of 48. It is Mickelson’s second PGA Championship victory, following one in 2005. It also joins his Masters victories in 2004, 2006 and 2010, as well as a 2013 Open Championship title on his list of major victories.
Mickelson held off challenges from fellow major winners Brooks Koepka and Louis Oosthuizen, winning by two strokes with a score of six-under-par. As Mickelson approached the 18th green to cement his victory, fans at Kiawah Island swarmed the course behind him in a scene reminiscent of Tiger Woods’ historic victory at the Masters two years ago.

HBO has shared the very revealing trailer for its two-part documentary series on Tiger Woods.
“Tiger” charts the rise, fall and comeback of arguably golf’s greatest player of all time. (You can chill about Jack’s major title wins — we said “arguably.”)
Watch the “Tiger” trailer above. In the sneak peek, golf legend and six-time major champion Sir Nick Faldo asked, “What has Tiger done to Tiger Woods?”
Indeed, we all wondered the same thing as we watched the golf phenom fall hard from the pedestal he was (probably unfairly) placed upon by his game and the media.
But that’s not even the best quote from the trailer — that honor goes to a line from Robert Lusetich, author of “Unplayable: An Inside Account of Tiger’s Most Tumultuous Season.”
“The problem with conquering the world, is that the world will want its revenge,” Lusetich said.
The trailer’s kicker,...

When Jim Nantz returns to the task of presenting live golf this weekend, he knows the job will feel nothing like the one he’s done for decades.
Viewers typically see Nantz seated alongside analyst Nick Faldo. Thanks to restrictions posed by the coronavirus pandemic, however, over the course of four days of the PGA Tour’s Charles Schwab Challenge telecast on both NBCUniversal’s Golf Channel as well as CBS Sports, Nantz will hold forth on his own in Fort Worth, at the event, with Faldo weighing in from thousands of miles away – from Orlando.
“This is one of the great challenges I’ve seen ever in my 30 or 35 years” of broadcasting the sport, Nantz said Monday during a conference call with reporters. He will have no face-to-face meetings with his crew and producers and will have to prepare himself for some new techniques CBS Sports plans to introduce to coverage.

But the documentary “Loopers” goes deeper into the bond shared between golfers and their caddies as they spend hours of time together,...

One man's loss is another man's gain. This was certainly true for Danny Willett on Sunday when an unexpected meltdown from Jordan Spieth landed Willett the coveted Masters jacket. "Golf happened," the victor told Espn after Sunday's win. "Things went our way and we got fortunate a couple of times and now we're able to sit here as a Master champion." Willett came out a surprise winner on Sunday, facing off against Spieth, a 22-year-old Texas golfer who tied Tiger Woods' record in 2015 to win the Augusta, Georgia, tournament. But just who is Willett? - besides the new owner of that fancy green blazer.

Randy hits a hole-in-one.
Golfers love wine – after they are done golfing. While they are golfing, it’s beer. Those inconsiderate showoffs who can shoot in the 80s probably guzzle Gatorade, or Red Bull or something called “water.” Who cares what those inconsiderate showoffs drink, though?
Golfers love “Caddyshack,” too. Even non-golfers love “Caddyshack,” but let’s stay on the course. I was a golfer myself, once upon a time. I found that the “good walk spoilt” sentiment from Samuel Clemens was too true for me to continue. Reaching into the cooler on the golf cart was a lot more fun than reaching into my bag for a club. I tried carrying my bag, but if I’m to enjoy a walk in the grass, I don’t need a hundred pounds of clubs on my shoulder. Especially when I only use three of them.
And, to me, a walk...

Tiger Woods is sorry he lost his temper on Friday (April 7) during a particularly stressful moment during the 2012 Masters golf tournament.
"Certainly I'm frustrated at times and I apologize if I offended anybody by that," says Woods. "But I've hit some bad shots and it's certainly frustrating at times not hitting the ball where you need to hit it."
On Friday, Woods hit a poor tee shot with a 9-iron, reports the New York Daily News, and reacted by dropping the club behind him, then turning and angrily kicking it several yards. The outburst instantly garnered attention for Woods -- who has been slowly working his way back into the top echelons of the PGA tour.
CBS Sports analyst Nick Faldo opined that Woods had "lost his game and his mind."
Players are usually disciplined by the PGA for "conduct unbecoming a professional." Thus far, no formal action has been...

Phyllida Lloyd has really missed a trick with her film about Margaret Thatcher
I have been too busy to see The Iron Lady (which I assumed was a distaff spin-off from Marvel's Iron Man), but none the less, I am now about to use it as a lead-in to discussing the critical rehabilitation of Margaret Thatcher. I did, however, find time to watch Troll Hunter last week, an enormous metaphor for Norwegian national identity, which engaged more critically with Norway's mythologised past than The Iron Lady does with ours. I expect. I haven't seen The Iron Lady, as I said.
Phyllida Lloyd's Thatcher biopic includes some daring sight gags employing the literal snatching of milk, but softens the controversial prime minister's legacy. The sympathetic figure of the ageing Maggie is played, by all accounts brilliantly, by the always excellent Glenn Close, her micro-managed Hollywood features magically transformed by hours...

Golfing legends Nick Faldo and Colin Montgomerie turned out to pay tribute to Seve Ballesteros at his funeral in Spain on Wednesday.
The Spanish sports icon died on Saturday, two-and-a-half years after doctors diagnosed him with two malignant brain tumours. He was 54.
Ballesteros' family and friends attended his memorial at a church in Pedrena, Spain, and they were joined by several of his sporting pals.
Faldo said, "There will never be another like Seve in the world of golf. He had the charisma, the looks, the walk, the swing, everything. I had to come today to pay my respects - here in the little village where he was just one of the locals.
"The fact he stayed here is very special. He was the small-time boy who made it to the top of the hill."...

New Delhi -- MGM Studios has entered into a franchisee licensing agreement with Lavasa Corp., a subsidiary of real estate conglomerate Hindustan Construction Company, to set up a Hollywood theme park near the western city of Pune, with an initial investment of 4.5 billion rupees ($100 million), according to a newspaper report here Tuesday.

Britain's Queen Elizabeth showed off her golfing knowledge yesterday as she knighted Nick Faldo. The monarch told the six-times major tournament winner: "You've been in the game a long time." The queen bestowed the honour on Nick at the Windsor Castle ceremony after his incredible 30-year golfing career, which has included winning the Open three times, the Masters three times, the European Order of Merit twice and 30 additional wins on the European Tour.
