Longtime Maroon 5 bassist Michael “Mickey” Madden is stepping away from the band to deal with charges stemming from an arrest late last month for alleged domestic violence.
“I have some things that I need to deal with and address right now and so I have decided to take a leave of absence from Maroon 5 for the foreseeable future,” Madden said in a statement. “During this time, I do not want to be a distraction to my bandmates. I wish them the absolute best.”
Like most music acts, Maroon 5 is on hiatus while the pandemic has shuttered the live music industry. The band is now hoping to play again in July 2021.
Madden, age 41, was arrested in Los Angeles on a felony charge of intimate partner violence. He posted a $50,000 bail bond.
A statement from the band said, “We are deeply devastated by this disappointing news. As we learn more, we are looking at this very seriously.

Maroon 5’s new single, “Maps,” may cover new terrain geographically as lead singer/“The Voice” coach Adam Levine vows to search the globe for his lost love, but musically it stays pretty much in the group’s sweet spot with catchy verses and a striking vocal performance from Levine. The song, the first single from the group’s forthcoming album, “V,” does strike a bit of a blend between its edgy pop and the Police’s thumping beats and guitar lines, and some cool chanting and goes for an overall atmospheric sense building urgency. “I was there for you in your darkest times/I was there for you in your darkest nights/But I wonder where were you when I was at my worst/Down on my knees and you said you had my back/So I wonder where were you/All the roads you took came back to...

Levine's PSA promotes 'Countdown to Zero' anti-nuclear documentary from the producers of 'An Inconvenient Truth.'

Maroon 5's Adam Levine never thought he'd be talking about a topic like nuclear proliferation, because, well, he's the lead singer of a world-famous rock band. Discussing the finer points of the Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty wasn't exactly on the job description.
And yet, when he was approached by the folks behind "Countdown to Zero" — the harrowing new documentary from the producers of "An Inconvenient Truth" that investigates the perilous state of global politics and the spread of nuclear weapons — about helping promote the film, he said yes.
"It's one of those issues where it's really easy to establish a stance on," Levine said. "It's more of a human issue, and it makes no sense whatsoever to me.

That's a whole lot of "officially" for a guy like Ryan Ross, who, ever since splitting with Panic! at the Disco earlier this summer, has made a point of living (and working) as unofficially as possible. That is to say, he's tried very hard to make it look like he's not trying hard at all.
