Peter Navarro, the former White House adviser to Donald Trump, was ordered to report to a federal prison in Miami by March 19.
Back in September 2023, Navarro was found guilty by a jury on two counts of contempt of Congress.
In January, the Justice Department sought a sentence of six months in prison for him after he was convicted of criminal contempt of Congress for ignoring a subpoena from the congressional committee investigating the January 6, 2021, Capitol attack. He was scheduled to be sentenced on January 25.
Prosecutors also wanted a $200,000 fine. In a 20-page sentencing memo, Assistant U.S. Attorney Elizabeth Aloi stated that prosecutors sought to punish the former White House aide for his bad-faith strategy.
Navarro complained that the legal costs of the case left him bankrupt.

U.S. District Judge Amit Mehta dismissed former Trump White House aide Peter Navarro‘s plea to avoid incarceration while he appeals his criminal conviction for defying a subpoena from the January 6 select committee.
Mehta stated that Navarro’s claim of potential success on appeal was insufficient grounds to postpone the four-month prison sentence handed down last month.
The judge rejected multiple arguments put forth by Navarro and underscored that his claims of testimonial immunity, executive privilege and other defenses lacked merit. While Navarro asserted political bias, Mehta ruled that Navarro’s claims of political bias were unfounded and lacked substance. If the ruling stands, Navarro may become the first member of Trump’s inner circle to face imprisonment for crimes connected to attempts to undermine the 2020 election.

Kapoor Khan has said that her character is inspired in part by Kate Winslet’s role in “Mare of Easttown.” “I love ‘Mare of Easttown’ and when Hansal came to me, I said this is something that I’ve really been dying to do. The concept of eyesight and blindness has been one that has been briefly in cinema, usually through horror or action movies. Hariom Mehta also uses it in his 10-minute short, in order to make a complicated comment through a crime approach.
“Sight” review is part of the Submit Your Film Initiative
The film begins in black and white, with a woman making a sort of bread, under the sound of some subtle music. The clanging sound of something begins a transition that eventually has us looking at a man with a white shirt, towering above the crowd, looking straight at the camera, while a rather deep voice narrates about the concept of watching. Next, a news broadcast informs of multiple murders in the city, cautioning people to be careful. We then see the same man, who seems to be blind, moving around with his cane. The encounter in the girls locker room initiates the nightmare scenario of It Lives Inside, Bishal Dutta’s jagged feature debut about a small town besieged by an ancient spirit.
Samidha (Megan Suri) and Tamira (Mohana Krishnan) stand across from each other in the dimly lit aisle, exchanging weighted stares. Culture and a shared history bind the two teenagers, whose reputations differ at their small, white suburban high school. Samidha goes by Sam now — an attempt to close the gap between her Indian culture and the American one embodied by her classmates. She would prefer to loiter around a campfire with her crush (Gage Marsh) than help her mother (Neeru Bajwa) prepare for puja.
Tamira is a more shadowy figure; her character seems mostly to be Sam’s opposite. The young woman, dressed in drab and ill-fitting clothes, sticks out. She inspires stares, whispers and jokes. When she shuffles through the hall,...

New York, July 30 (Ians) In a first, US doctors, including those of Indian-origin, used brain implants and Artificial Intelligence (AI) to restore sense of touch and movement in a quadriplegic man – a person affected by paralysis of all four limbs.
Keith Thomas, 45, was left paralysed from the chest down, making him unable to move and feel, after a diving accident in 2020.
After being in a hospital for more than six months, he decided to be part of a novel clinical trial at Northwell Health’s Feinstein Institutes for Medical Research.
A team at the Feinstein successfully implanted microchips into the brain of Thomas and also developed AI algorithms to re-link his brain to his body and spinal cord.
The team of researchers, engineers and surgeons mapped Thomas’ brain for months using functional MRIs to help pinpoint the areas responsible for both arm movement and for the sensation of touch in his hand.

Stage actor James Beeks has been acquitted of all charges stemming from his participation in the Jan. 6th Capitol riots, with U.S. District Judge Amit P. Mehta concluding today at a Washington, D.C. courthouse that there was no evidence suggesting Beeks knew of plans to obstruct Congress.
Beeks, who was arrested in November 2021 while on tour portraying Judas in a road company of Jesus Christ Superstar, had traveled to Washington, D.C. on Jan. 6 after reading online messages posted by the right-wing group Oath Keepers. The 49-year-old actor’s attorney Greg Hunter said Beeks was not aware of the group’s intentions. “If he didn’t know what others intended, he couldn’t intend to do it,” Hunter said, according to reports.
In his ruling today, Judge Mehta cited a lack of evidence that Beeks knowingly took part in planning the attack. The actor is no longer a...

Hansal Mehta’s Scoop is simultaneously an expose on unethical practices in media exposes and also a savage expose on how ambitious women are treated in predominantly male-dominated professions. Crime reporting is most assuredly a mail domain, and certainly no place for a single mother. This, Jagruti Pathak( the name given to crime reporter Jigna Vora who was accused in the murder of fellow crime reporter J Dey) found out the hard way.
Hansal Mehta’s research is remarkably rigorous. He has Jigna Vora’s memoir Behind Bars In Byculla: My Days In Prison to fall back on. But Mehta doesn’t go by the book. When has he ever? The series probes deep into the wounds and failings of the Indian media , the police force and crime investigative agencies without getting judgemental.

New Delhi, April 27 (Ians) The outgoing Wrestling Federation of India (Wfi) president Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh is “not hiding” anywhere, he will “expose each one of the protesting wrestlers lies” in the coming days, an official told Ians.
“Since the matter is in court, he (Brij Bhushan) won’t talk to the media right now. But he is waiting for the right time to expose all the lies by these star wrestlers. Whatever these wrestlers are saying are blatant lies. All this thing (sexual harassment) never happened. Their problem was the laws which Wfi put on for all the wrestlers in India (trials for all and other rules). Wfi is for all the wrestlers not just for the stars… They just changed the topic to sexual harassment.
“Political leaders are looking for benefits out of it now since everyone knows how Congress and the opposition are getting involved in it.

ReviewEverybody growls in this film, and there are more villains than one can count, performing to deafening soundtracks. What’s missing is a story.MoviePosterWhat is the story? Who is smuggling from whom? Why are there so many villains? Is Agilan, played by an always-grumpy Jayam Ravi, a criminal with a good heart, or is all his secretive do-gooding a counterbalance for his criminality? Why is everything happening to the soundtrack of a man growling gajagajagajagaaa gajagajagajagaaa very loudly the whole time? What does this person have to growl about? I felt like growling too, mainly in frustration. These are only a percentage of the head-spinning questions I have for director N Kalyanakrishnan after watching his latest Tamil release Agilan. Actually, growling is the sole unifying theme of this movie, which can loosely be described as a story about a lot of smugglers working out of a harbour in Tamil...

Blame it on my Catholic upbringing, but guilt is my near-constant companion. At work, there’s guilt for not covering more television, which leads to guilt at home for spending too much time watching TV. Even when I can separate from these millions of screens, guilt often rises from having too much fun — or not enough. There’s lingering guilt over childhood misdeeds, and there’s growing guilt right now for spending this review’s lede talking about myself.
The point being: Guilt can come from anywhere. Right or wrong, useful or obstructive, immutable or fleeting, the feeling that you’re doing something wrong (and the ensuing anguish spent wondering just how bad it was) can lead people to do any number of things, and in this year’s otherwise disparate crop of Indie Episodic entries at the Sundance Film Festival, guilt is a driving narrative force — even in its absence.

Chennai, Aug 22 (Ians) There will be space for stand alone auto component makers in the electric vehicle (Ev) manufacturing space even though some manufacturers are vertically integrated, said a top official of Automotive Component Manufacturers Association of India (Acma).
