This avian online delivery animation is one for the whole family
This unexpectedly charming animation bursts out of the screen with an aesthetic that is a sugar rush of cuteness. This probably would be quite off-putting, were it not for the sharp humour that elevates it from easily digestible kiddy fodder to something that offers sustenance to parents as well.
The film, written and directed by Nicholas Stoller (Bad Neighbours, Forgetting Sarah Marshall, The Muppets), imagines a world in which storks have sidelined their original baby delivery services in favour of a highly lucrative online shopping organisation. Junior (Andy Samberg) is the company’s high-achieving bird and is hotly tipped to take over when the boss retires. But he finds his ambitions thwarted by Orphan Tulip (Katie Crown), an undelivered human baby, now an adult, who is something of a glitch in the smooth-running stork business model. Tulip inadvertently creates a baby,...

Going by the trailers alone, Storks might look like a bit of an anachronism in 2016, taking its comedic kick start from the folkloric image of the white stork delivering babies to expectant parents that was popularised by Hans Christian Anderson and latterly in Disney's Dumbo. Happily, writer and co-director Nicholas Stoller has thought this through more than we have.
In Warner Animation Group's second feature, storks delivered infants from their baby factory on Stork Mountain in the past, but a pioneering boss has changed all of that, “because there are lots of other ways to get a baby.” Now the mountain is crowned with a great big warehouse from which Amazon-a-like online retailer Cornerstore.com dispatches electrical goods and other doo-dads so that storks don't have to deal with the hassle of carrying newborns any more.

Chicago – I’ve waited all week to write that headline, and I will be joining the 100,000 other similar headlines out there. Hey-ooh! “Storks” is a lot of fun, without the dire need for any “message” or heavy handedness that is too familiar in the current animation environment. It’s just funny.

Much of the credit has to go to writer/co-director Nicholas Stoller (“Get Him to the Greek”), doing his first animated film. He has a light touch with comedy, pressing the accelerator when he needs to, but also getting laughs from wacky dialogue and strange asides. Staying close to the roots of the story (storks no longer deliver babies, but packages), and employing a great voice cast, combined for “Storks” to join “Sausage Factory” as the funniest full-length cartoon of the year.

You know the drill: An upcoming animated movie releases a trailer, filled with pop songs (maybe its a current hit; maybe it's a Smash Mouth song), wacky animals and recognizable celebrity voices. It drops a few kid-friendly snarky lines here and there – the dog/cat/emu that just skid face-first into a door? It, like, meant to do that! Then it's all over but the first-weekend grosses. Storks takes the old myth of storks delivering babies as a starting point for an animated action/adventure comedy, where the storks have gone corporate and gotten out of the baby delivery business. Now, storks deliver merchandise for Cornerstore.com, a giant Amazon-like internet retailer, because now there are so many options if you want a baby. Or at least they thought they were out of the baby business, until a little boy uses an old form to place an order for a baby brother- an order that would never have been filled except for a glitch in the system that activates the long-shuttered Baby Factory.

“Storks,” the brainchild of the new Warner Animation Group screenwriting “think tank,” stretches the Looney Tunes ethos for CG in terms of both comedy and animation style.
First-time animation director Nicholas Stoller (“Forgetting Sarah Marshall”), who wrote the script, teamed up with another directorial newbie, former Pixar animator Doug Sweetland (the “Presto” short), and they paid tribute to the Coen brothers’ “Raising Arizona,” a live-action Looney Tune of sorts.
Storks now deliver packages instead of babies for retail giant, Cornerstore.com, run by the greedy Hunter (Kelsey Grammer). That is, until Junior (Andy Stamberg) and human sidekick Tulip (Katie Crown) inadvertently unleash the long-dormant Baby Machine. They’re forced to deliver an adorable girl to her family, while warding off a Wolf Pack that’s also fallen in love with the baby.
But without its own in-house animation team, Warner Bros. turned to Sony Pictures Imageworks (now headquartered in Vancouver...

Welcome back to the Weekend Warrior, your weekly look at the new movies hitting theaters this weekend, as well as other cool events and things to check out.
This Past Weekend:
Yikes. What a terrible weekend we just had, not only for the new movies released but also for the Weekend Warrior’s predictions. Clint Eastwood and Tom Hanks’ Sully won its second weekend in a row with just under $22 million, but as far as the new movies, neither Lionsgate’s Blair Witch nor Universal’s Bridget Jones’s Baby did very well, putting the last nail in the coffin (hopefully) for sequels/remakes trying to play upon nostalgia that just isn’t there. (Good luck to the Rings movie opening next month!) Blair Witch ended up with $9.6 million to take second place and both Bridget Jones’s Baby and Oliver Stone’s Snowden ended up with around $8 million, so...

Storks is a cinematic representation of the most patience-chewing children’s toy; something that blares music, flashes obnoxious lights, rings bells, toots whistles – a real demon plaything. So much should work, yet almost every scene lays flatter than a stinky squished baby diaper. Jokes land clumsily, pacing is completely askew and what’s up with the half-assed birds-and-the-bees story that mixes delivery storks and actual human reproduction (I think)? If your child hasn’t asked where babies come from yet, you better be ready for the most awkward car ride home ever after this parental nightmare of a child’s film.
Andy Samberg stars as Junior, a soon-to-be promoted deliver stork working for Cornerstore.com. Storks were once known for delivering babies based on mailed letters from hopeful parents, but then big-boss Hunter (Kelsey Grammer) realizes the profit margins are found in parcel delivery, so the baby division is shut down.

There’s a fleeting moment at the end of “Storks” rich with warm possibilities. One after another, would-be parents from all walks of life — gay, straight, single and many different skin colors — embrace their new infants, celebrating the universality of family bonds in a way that’s uniquely contemporary for a major studio release of this sort. The story leading up to it, however, falls short of such foolproof logic. “Storks” takes place in a world eerily devoid of sex, in which parenthood has been corporatized and then abandoned by a factory run by talking birds whose priorities have shifted to delivering non-human goods. Co-directed by Doug Sweetland and Nicholas Stoller (“Forgetting Sarah Marshall”) from Stoller’s screenplay, it doesn’t have the brains to wrestle with the outrageous conceit, nor the inspired humor to distract from the rampant absurdity. It’s a dumb movie in search of a sweet idea.

For the studios, 2016 has mostly been about the year of the animal, highlighted by Disney’s billion-dollar “Zootopia” and Pixar’s “Finding Dory” (the new all-time animation box office leader).
However, the year culminates with another potentially strong Disney Oscar contender, “Moana” (November 23), along with two musicals: Illumination’s “Sing” (December 21), which played to cheering crowds this week at the Toronto Film Festival, and DreamWorks’ “Trolls” (Nov. 4). Warner Bros., meanwhile, offers the buddy comedy, “Storks” (September 23), which has attracted good world of mouth for its humor.
Disney explores new territory with the Polynesian-themed “Moana,” the first foray into CG for directors John Musker and Ron Clements (“The Princess and the Frog,” “Aladdin,” “The Little Mermaid”), who push the legacy in a new direction with contemporary appeal.
The free-spirited, teenage Moana (Auli’i Cravalho) possesses strong navigational skills and is determined to sail out on a dangerous mission to save her island and eradicate its isolation.

Your family is your flock and your flock is your family. Warner Bros has debuted another new trailer for the animated Storks movie, co-directed by Nicholas Stoller & Doug Sweetland. The story follows a young human girl named Tulip who works in the stork delivery company, which has become a .com delivery giant after moving on from delivering babies. Until one shows up and they have to figure out how to get it back to its family. The voice cast features Andy Samberg as the voice of Junior, as well as Kelsey Grammer, Jennifer Aniston, Ty Burrell, Key and Peele, plus Katie Crown as Tulip. This new trailer also features the song "Kiss the Sky" by Jason Derulo, which is thematically connected to the film. I'm not sure if this will be any good, but hopefully it will have some funny moments and that might make it enjoyable. Have a look.

"You're probably asking yourself how a stork, a girl, and a baby wound up in this situation?" WB has unveiled a new trailer for their animated comedy Storks, written & co-directed by Nicholas Stoller, behind the films Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Get Him to the Greek, Neighbors and Neighbors 2. The movie is about a company that used to delivered storks that has since become a major .com delivery giant, and the workers who decide to deliver a baby. The voice cast features Andy Samberg as the voice of Junior, as well as Kelsey Grammer, Jennifer Aniston, Ty Burrell, Key and Peele, plus Katie Crown as Tulip. This actually looks much better than expected, but I'm still not sure if it'll compare to Pixar of Disney. Have fun. Here's the second trailer for Nicholas Stoller & Doug Sweetland's Storks, direct from WB's YouTube: You can still see the first teaser trailer for WB's Storks here,...

"You're probably asking yourself how a stork, a girl, and a baby wound up in this situation?"
Storks is one of those movies that I wasn't really sure about when I first heard about it, but the more I've seen of the film, the more I've warmed up to it. This latest trailer gives us our best look yet, and it's a lot more entertaining than I was expecting.
I guess it makes sense that it would be a decent film, after all, it was written and co-directed by Nicholas Stoller, who is the guy behind some other great comedies such as Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Get Him to the Greek, Neighbors, and Neighbors 2. Storks just happens to be a crazy animated adventure.
The movie also has a great voice cast includes Andy Samberg as Junior with Kelsey Grammer, Jennifer Aniston, Ty Burrell, Keegan-Michael Key, Jordan Peele, and Katie Crown. Here's the synopsis:

Featuring a voice cast of comedy genius like Andy Samberg, Kelsey Garmer, Keegen Micheal-Key, and Jordan Peele, Warner Bros. may have another winner on their hands with new animated feature Storks, which sees the famed baby delivery service move away from diapers, but that changes when the company’s top stork (Samberg) and the only human on Stork Mountain, Tulip (Katie Crown), must make their first ever baby-drop off. Anything involving cartoon babies will definitely see the cuteness factor dialled all the way up, but thankfully this looks hilarious to boot. No doubt Warner Bros. will be taking it’s cue The Lego Movie in terms of cross-audience humour, and from the trailer above they seem to have found the sweet spot. Released: 23rd September (U.S.)/ 14th October (Irl/U.K.)...

The cast of Storks has found a new Friend. Jennifer Aniston is among the voice cast for the upcoming animated movie, EW reported. She’ll play the mother of an only child who really wants a baby brother. The movie is about a workaholic bird trying to find the right home for an “unauthorized” baby girl who was born when a stork (Andy Samberg) accidentally activated the Baby Making Machine. Storks writer/co-director Nicholas Stoller told EW the film is “a love letter to parenthood,” inspired by his experiences raising two girls. Also lending their voices to Storks are Kelsey Grammer, Keegan-Michael Key, Jordan Peele, Ty Burrell, and Katie Crown. You can see what Aniston’s mom character looks like in the image below, along with her animated movie husband, Ty Burrell: It won’t be the first time the Friends alum has voiced the mother of an animated character — she supplied the voice of Hogarth’s mom in The Iron Giant. Storks opens in theaters on September 23, 2016.

Warner Bros. Pictures showcased an impressive lineup of talents and highly anticipated films at this year’s CinemaCon, which generated tremendous excitement for the Studio’s wide-ranging slate. Chairman and CEO Kevin Tsujihara opened the program and announced that Ben Affleck—who will again play the role of Batman in the upcoming Justice League movie—will direct, as well as star in, a new stand-alone Batman feature.
The Studio’s presentation was highlighted by trailers and film clips—including some never-before-seen footage—and appearances by some of the major stars and filmmakers involved in each of the movies. It also served to illustrate Tsujihara’s statement about the diversity of the slate: built on the foundation of the key franchises of DC Super Heroes, animated Lego® features, and “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them,” but also encompassing a broad scope of dramas, action adventures, horror thrillers and comedies.

Nickelodeon has ordered 13 episodes of The Loud House, from first-time creator Chris Savino. The animated series, about a chaotic life growing up in a huge household, is based on a short from Nick’s 2013 Animated Shorts Program. This is the first project from that initiative, launched in 2012 and designed to identify and develop original comedy-driven content for kids. Pitches chosen are developed into animated shorts with the potential to air on the network or live on the Nick App. The short from Savino (Rocko’s Modern Life, The Powerpuff Girls) follows 11-year-old Lincoln as he gives an inside look at what it takes to survive in the bedlam of a large family, especially as the only boy with 10 sisters. It will air on Nick. The news today dovetails with Nickelodeon announcing the 11 finalists from its 2014 Animated Shorts Program. They are: Francine by writer/comedian Katie Crown – The story of a...
