Stephen Emery, a producer and film executive who worked for Gale Anne Hurd and Bill Gerber and on films featuring the likes of Clint Eastwood, Anna Kendrick, Liam Hemsworth, Aaron Eckhart and Liam Neeson, has died. He was 46.
Emery died Saturday in a Los Angeles gym after a workout, Big Swell Entertainment CEO Andy Horwitz told The Hollywood Reporter. He recently joined the production company that had launched in October.
“Everyone that had the pleasure to know Stephen Emery is heartbroken over the sudden loss of one of our own,” Horwitz said in a statement. “Stephen was much more than an invaluable producer, he was also an irreplaceable friend. His passion for film was outweighed only by his passion for life, and he lived every day like it was his last. We will miss his adventurous spirit, his loyal friendship and his genuine love for life. Rest in peace, brother.

Though he's slated to direct "X-Men: Apocalypse" next, filmmaker Bryan Singer is keeping his options open with plans for another comic book adaptation.
Singer's production company Bad Hat Harry has scored the film rights to the Image Comics title "Age of Heroes" with Alex Hollister set to pen the screenplay. Marc Berliner, David Engel and Stephen Emery will produce.
Not to be confused with the Marvel comic run of the same name, the story follows a group of misfits in a fantasy land ruled by the Gods. These outcasts are brought together to protect their land once the Gods disappear, and are forced to fight monsters and other magical beings.
It's presently unclear if Singer might direct 'Heroes' after "X-Men," or will simply serve as producer.

Though his future with the X-Men franchise is in doubt following accusations of sexual assault, X-Men: Days of Future Past Bryan Singer has in no way been blacklisted in Hollywood and is in fact already pushing forward with another high-profile comic-book property. I guess this all began with a car ride past a cemetery in New Orleans and a simple question. "Are the cemeteries open all night?" my friend asked. "No, they have guards that watch the place at night to make sure no messes with anything." His answer? "That's a fucked up job." And that was it. A single phrase that stuck with me for the rest of the night. A few weeks later a first draft landed on the same friend's desk. The story has changed dozens of times since then, but one thing was always the same. There was going to be a cemetery, it was going to have a Zombie problem and that would eventually lead to the inevitable.
It didn't take long for the script to gain interest with different production companies and in the fall of 2005 it looked like I was going to make my first feature film.

Zombie films always seem to boast surprising casts, and this '80s-led latest is no exception. Following the likes of Sarah Polley, Billy Connolly, and Michael Jackson, Variety reports that Circle of Confusion is producing a new zombie thriller called Gatekeeper --Lea Thompson and Judge Reinhold are attached, along with Ron Perlman, Matthew O'Leary, and Jana Kramer.
It seems that this cast has been set for a while, if you knew where to look. There's a blog called "The Gatekeeper" which has exactly one post from back in March. The cast list is almost the same, except Reinhold is nowhere to be found, but John Francis Daley is. Let's just assume that Reinhold isn't replacing Daley, because that would probably be the strangest casting twist of all time.
Isaac Meisenheimer's script, which he will direct, will focus on three friends who have to defend their town against a zombie outbreak.
