Unfortunately, the fate of Fox's freshman series, Pitch, is still up in the air.
It is arguably one of the best new series of the year, but it has not picked up the fan base and ratings that it deserves. It's a real shame.
Is television ready for a female-driven sports drama? I'd like to think so. Especially when that female is the talented Kylie Bunbury, and her co-star is Mark-Paul Gosselaar. They are just two of the reasons why this series deserves to be picked up.
It would be a travesty if we weren't graced with their talent in such a groundbreaking and inspiring series.
If you're a fan of heartwarming sports family dramas like Friday Night Lights, I urge you to check out Pitch.

After Pitch’s stellar first season left the fate of Major League Baseball’s first female pitcher on a dramatic cliffhanger, fans have just one question: Will there be a season 2?
Thankfully, series star Ali Larter says things are “looking good” for the Fox baseball drama.
“I've heard some whispers, yeah,” Larter told Et’s Deidre Behar at a junket for her new film, Resident Evil: The Final Chapter, at the London West Hollywood on Saturday. “It's looking really good!”

Throughout its first season, Pitch has done an incredible job of creating an entire cast of real, vibrant, and believable characters. From Blip to Amelia to Mike, every single character that surrounds Ginny feels fleshed out and lived-in in a way that supporting players on most freshman shows never do. However, despite how much attention Pitch has given Mike Lawson over the past couple of weeks, or Blip and Evelyn earlier on in the season, this show has always been Ginny’s story, and it reaffirms that with tonight’s season (and hopefully not series) finale, “Don’t Say It,” as Ginny pushes back against

Ahhhhhhh!!!!
What an episode! I really love this show and I don't know what I'm going to do with myself once it's over! The fact that it's fate is up in the air only makes it that much more emotional.
Speaking of emotional, Pitch Season 1 Episode 9 knew how to take us for a ride! From beginning to end it had me sitting on the edge of my seat, gritting my teeth, and occasionally making obscene gestures at a character or two. Charlie. It was totally Charlie!
Again, I cannot gush enough about Mark-Paul Gosselaar and his performance as Mike Lawson. He does a remarkable job bringing Mike Lawson to life. He's such a lovable, relatable, human disaster, gruff character but he has so much heart and knows how to rip yours out with things as simple as the delivery of a line or a look.

The world of television criticism can be as fun as it is daunting. With so many shows coming out every year, month, week, and sometimes each day, simply watching enough of a new series to adequately grade it is a full-time job; a job we’re very pleased to have, but one we do not take lightly. To that end, it’s time to dig into one of the trickiest TV groups to assess: broadcast’s new entries.
Not only are broadcast seasons typically longer than their peers on cable and streaming, but critics are often given just a pilot episode to view before reaching a verdict. So many of the Fall 2016 entries were graded off merely an hour or two for dramas, and less for many comedies. But now — two months past the first flood of fresh programming — we’ve got a better idea of what shows you need to be watching,...

Every episode of Pitch‘s first season up until this point has centered on Ginny Baker, and why wouldn’t it? Kylie Bunbury’s character is the star of not just the Padres but of the show, and it has been important that Pitch has given her the time and attention that she’s needed (and deserved) in the series’ first six episodes in order to fully flesh her out as a character. However, tonight’s episode, “San Francisco,” turns away from Ginny slightly (she’s still got a substantial storyline throughout the hour) and puts its focus on Mike Lawson, who has become less of a

Pitch‘s Mike Lawson has made his living catching whatever comes his way, but tonight’s episode knocks him down like a Nolan Ryan fastball.
The Padres captain already is worried about aging out of professional baseball. He’s recently been dumped by his hook-up buddy, Amelia. He’s in physical pain most of the time. And when the team calls up hot, young catcher Livan Duarte from the minor leagues, series star Mark-Paul Gosselaar tells TVLine, it gets a little ugly.

Before I started watching Fox's Pitch, I wasn't the biggest fan of beards. They're scratchy. They look like they're full of crumbs. Do they smell? Then, I watched the first episode of the sports drama. In addition to giving me a strong and complex female character (Ginny Baker, the first woman to play Major League Baseball), a crazy twist, and a reason to finally get into baseball, it has also gifted me with an unexpected surprise: Mark-Paul Gosselaar's glorious beard. It's an established fact that Gosselaar is aging like a fine wine, and the facial hair he sports while playing good-natured catcher Mike Lawson has only helped his cause. In all honesty, Gosselaar hasn't looked this hot since Saved by the Bell: The College Years (sorry, Franklin and Bash fans). While I busy myself looking for lumberjack appreciation groups on Facebook, please enjoy the best photos of Gosselaar and his beard,...

What an emotional episode!
The best thing about Pitch is that it quite simply is a show with a lot of heart.
For the most part, Pitch Season 1 Episode 4 was a quiet episode. It was a much appreciated breather after the fun and excitement of Pitch Season 1 Episode 3. It did what this show excels at doing, which is delving deeper and slowly unraveling layers to not only Ginny, but all of the great characters she's surrounded by.
It took a bit, but we were finally properly introduced to Ginny's mother. I don't know about many of you, but I had been curious about the state of her relationship with her mom for some time. Up until this point, she had been mostly absent from the frenzy that has surrounded Ginny, and that just seemed odd.
So it wasn't surprising to see Ginny begging Evelyn to stay with her, or relying on Amelia,...

Hey Dan Fogelman,
I know we don’t know each other, but recently you’ve become an important part of my life. Actually, you’ve become an important part of many women and girls’ lives. You probably have some sense of this given all the publicity your new show, “Pitch,” has received these past few months, but I’ll bet it hasn’t quite hit you… yet.

In ball terms, let’s say it’s the ninth inning. Team W is down by three and you’re up to bat with the bases loaded. Two outs, naturally. Our weakest hitter (we’ll call her Every Sitcom Wife Ever) is up next so you’ve really got to get this done, Dan. A single, double or triple won’t do. We need you to...

Screw stealing bases! Pitch is here to steal our hearts!
With the trailblazing appeal of movies like 42 and A League of Their Own and the charm of the late, great Friday Night Lights, Pitch is the perfect blend of family drama, sports action, girl power, and wit. It's balanced enough to appeal to various demographics and well written enough to avoid being typecast.
If the quality of Pitch Season 1 Episode 1 is any indicator of what the rest of the season has in store for us then Fox may have itself a new hit!
Ginny Baker can officially join the rank of fascinating, complex, multi-layered primetime female protagonists.
She's talented, confident, driven, and witty. On the surface she appears as if she has it completely together. She damn near eats, sleeps, and breathes baseball, and has since the first time she picked one up and hurled it at her father.
Ginny: But none of that matters,...

We are approaching a milestone in America: Hillary Clinton is on pace to become the first female President of the United States. It’s a landmark achievement thats weight has somehow been trumped by our need to avoid the end of the world (pun intended), but the far-reaching impact of a woman holding our nation’s highest office will be felt long beyond the lives of anyone reading these words. Not only is it historic — it’s significant.
Now, comparing that achievement with America’s first female professional baseball player may seem like a stretch. Even more so considering this ballplayer only exists on television, within the fictional world of “Pitch” created by Dan Fogelman and Rick Singer. Yet the connection is made within the series itself, as one of the first images we see is a vase of flowers delivered to freshly called-up San Diego Padres pitcher Ginny Baker (Kylie Bunbury,...

Zack Morris who? Mark-Paul Gosselaar is suiting up for Pitch. And by suiting up we mean he grew a big ol' bushy beard, packed on some weight and threw on the baseball cleats to play Mike Lawson, the catcher for the San Diego Padres on the Fox series. Yeah, it's a far-cry from the blonde days of Saved By the bell. "The script was a script…that I just couldn't put down," Gosselaar told E! News' Carissa Culner at the Pitch premiere. "I just knew that the team, no pun intended, was one that could make this a special project." Pitch tells the story of San Diego Padre's pitcher Ginny Baker (Kylie Bunbury), the first female to play in Major League Baseball, and her teammates who all...

If only a show could believe in the shtick it has, and not decide that it not only needs two, but needs one to be a clever twist. Pitch has enough going on without throwing out a last-minute zinger. Worse, the show doesn’t need it, it doesn’t help anything, and it runs the risk of leaving a bad taste in your mouth. I’m tempted to tell you the point at which you should stop watching, and await the next episode.
As I said, Pitch has enough going on, and somewhat surprisingly, what with the overblown cliches that are tricky to avoid, it’s a refreshing joyride. It may seem like damning with faint praise, but the show’s best attribute is just that it adeptly dodges turning into something laughable. That isn’t because it’s doing anything wrong, but because the subject matter simply means that...

There’s a powerful show in Pitch, but it’s not fully realized within its pilot. The bases are loaded. The eye is firmly on the ball. But it’s not hitting home — at least, not yet. It’s in a bit of a slump. The new Fox drama from creators Dan Fogelman (Crazy, Stupid, Love.) and Rick Singer (TV Land’s Younger) is eager to knock it out of the park, but it doesn’t quite have the muscle power to pull it off. The confident-but-heavily-cliched first episode isn’t necessarily a foul ball, but it’s not a grand slam like it should be. It’s a middle-of-the-road introduction for a rookie series with serious potential for greatness, though it’ll need a few more practice runs before it’s ready to make it into the big leagues. I’ll cut it...

Fox is about to debut a new drama about the first female athlete to play in Major League Baseball. Pitch stars Kylie Bunbury, Mark-Paul Gosselaar, Ali Larter, Mark Consuelos, Dan Lauria, Mo McRae, Meagan Holder and Tim Jo.
According to Fox, "Ginny is vaulted into instant fame when she's called up by the San Diego Padres to make her Major League debut. Like any rookie, Ginny must prove herself to her teammates. Foremost among them is Mike Lawson, the team's ruggedly handsome star catcher. There's instant chemistry between them, although neither dares admit it.
