Sometimes a whole TV show can be built from one simple question. For Amazon Prime Video’s “The Power,” the question is “How would the world be different if teenage girls could shoot electricity out of their hands?”
The grounded sci-fi thriller series comes to Prime Video on March 31, and got an electrifying new trailer on Thursday. Based on an acclaimed 2016 novel by Naomi Alderman, “The Power” is set in London, Seattle, Nigeria, and Eastern Europe and follows a few different girls as they come to terms with their sudden new ability, which is resetting the balance of power in every society. “Power Saves. Power Corrupts. Power Liberates” goes the show’s compelling tagline.
The cast is led by Toni Collette as Seattle mayor Margot Cleary-Lopez, alongside John Leguizamo as her husband, Rob Lopez, and Auli’i Cravalho as their zap-happy daughter Jos Cleary-Lopez. “Ted Lasso” star Toheeb Jimoh plays an...

Prime Video unveiled the first teaser trailer for “The Power,” an electrifying new thriller series starting Toni Collette (Hereditary) and John Leguizamo (Violent Night, The Menu).
“The Power” is described as an “emotionally driven global thriller” based on British author Naomi Alderman’s award-winning novel of the same name.
The new teaser trailer below warns of an impending revolution thanks to a unique superpower that leaves teen girls with the ability to electrocute on a whim. Collette’s character opens with a plea to take this new development seriously, begging the question of how lethal will this phenomenon become? It also highlights an all-star cast and teases another bloody dance floor.
The series, which will premiere on the streaming service on March 31, 2023, comes from Amazon Studios and Sister, with Raelle Tucker (“True Blood”) serving as showrunner. The 10-episode series gets ambitious in scale, too, featuring a global story “from London to Seattle,...

As our present-day dystopia grows increasingly dire, the more relevant speculative science fiction becomes. We've seen it before with Kathryn Bigelow's "Strange Days," a near-30-year-old film that effectively predicted the rise of voyeurism in social media and a growing police state in the U.S. We've also seen it more recently with "The Handmaid's Tale," a 1980s novel that felt less like a "what if" and more like a warning. For all its terrifying predictions, "The Handmaid's Tale" became a proper phenomenon when Hulu adapted it into a series in 2017. Success like that isn't easy to replicate, but competitors have certainly been making the effort. Amazon Studios is the latest streamer to bring a similar story to the fore, adapting "The Power" as a series starring Toni Collette. Given that's it's also based on a work of speculative sci-fi, there's already a bit of buzz about this project.

I want to preface this article by saying I know absolutely nothing about theatre, musicals or the production that goes into them. So, I’m not going to pretend I’m an expert in staging and the production behind shows on Broadway and the West End. However, I will say I am a massive fan of Trey Parker and Matt Stone; South Park is one of my favourite shows and it still alludes me as to how the duo churn out episodes the way they do. So, the news that Book of Mormon was coming to London’s West End meant I was plotting ways to get tickets faster than you can say, “Holy crap, these tickets sell fast.”
For the uninitiated, The Book of Mormon is the multi-award winning musical written by Trey Parker, Matt Stone and Rob Lopez. The show in general, rather than openly mocking Mormonism, embraces...

Between our last report and this new update, Frozen has made some big leaps. While just about any further news would feel like a big leap when it comes to a locked-down project, it looks as though things are, after a ten-year process, finally coming together for this CG musical take on Hans Christian Anderson‘s The Snow Queen. (You don’t get to say that very often, either.) A press release has announced a November 17th, 2013 opening for the animated fantasy film, the addition of some new voice & musical talent, and provided us with a first official synopsis.
You can read the lattermost below (via Collider):
“In ‘Frozen,’ a prophecy traps a kingdom in eternal winter, so Anna (voice of Bell) must team up with Kristoff, a daring mountain man, on the grandest of journeys to find the Snow Queen (voice of Menzel) and put an end to the icy spell.

Power lists are always a must-read: Ad Age has published The Creative 50, which includes Hollywood directors Darren Aronofsky and David Fincher. Comedians dominate the list this year, including: Tina Fey, the Lonely Island boys (Andy Samberg, Akiva Schaffer, and Jorma Taccone), Kristen Wiig, DumbDumb creators (backed by Will Arnett and Jason Bateman), and Tony-winner Book of Mormon writers Robert Lopez, Trey Parker and Matt Stone. Today: Are South Park’s Trey Parker and Matt Stone the next Rodgers and Hammerstein?
Have a question about gay male entertainment? Contact me here (and be sure and include your city and state and/or country)!
Q: I read an article on Slate.com praising the musical genius of South Park creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker, who I enjoy as well. Some of the comparisons are great, like Satan's "Up There" to Ariel's "Part of Your World.” Basically, they equate the two as a modern Rodgers and Hammerstein duo. I don't know much about theater or Broadway productions, but I'd figure you (and most of Ae) would. Could the guys who created a talking and singing piece of poo be on the same scale as Rodgers and Hammerstein? -- Daniel, Baltimore
