Every October, we stab them with knives, killing their regular appearances and bringing them to new life with sharpened teeth, ghoulish gazes, and impossibly wide, sinister smiles. We make pumpkins into little monsters every year, but what if they came to life on their own... and wanted revenge for the years of jack-o'-lantern carvings, discarded guts, and baked seeds? Darin Beckstead's Proof of Concept for his planned feature film, Evil Nature, expertly explores this unnerving "what if?" with ample amounts of holiday humor and creature-centric horror. We've been provided with the fun and frightening Evil Nature Proof of Concept to share with Daily Dead readers, along with an exclusive Q&A with director Darin Beckstead.

Darin Beckstead, the filmmaker behind Courage & Stupidity, a 25-minute film that reimagined Spielberg’s troubled experiences while making Jaws, is now throwing a hat into the horror genre with his tongue-in-cheek short titled Zombie Valley.
Zombie Valley stars Bus Riley, who was cast to reflect a bit of George Romero, as if the famous filmmaker were caught in one of his own nightmares. It was filmed in promotion of a very different and theatrical project Beckstead currently has in development.
Considering Courage & Stupidity became the first short film to secure a standalone distribution deal with Netflix and Beckstead recently won Best Picture at the Coney Island Film Festival for his feature film Somebody's Hero, we have a feeling he's someone to keep a close eye on! Check out Zombie Valley below along with a trailer for Courage & Stupidity (after all, who doesn't love Jaws) and let us know what you think.

The 11th annual Coney Island Film Festival, which was held last weekend on Sept. 23-25, gave out a total of 10 awards to both feature films and shorts.
Every year, Ciff loves to honor the quirky little seaside resort the fest is held in, showing a selection of films that were screened in the ‘hood. This year, the Best “Made in Coney Island” Award went to Daniel Turkewitz’s A Day in the Life of Coney Island, a lyrical 20-minute documentary that captures life at the beach and on the boardwalk.
The Best Documentary Feature Award was also a Coney Island-themed film, Charles Denson’s The Last Immortal, a profile of reformed gang member Keith Suber, who founded an organization to keep kids out of trouble. Meanwhile, Darin Beckstead’s New York-based comedy Somebody’s Hero took home Best Feature.
On the short film front, Victoria Cook‘s Hell-based Devil Town won Best Animation,...

The 11th annual Coney Island Film Festival, running Sept. 23-25, offers an exquisite blend of freak show, burlesque and cinematic oddities, featuring movies about reformed gang members, unwitting superheroes, rock ‘n’ roll heaven and tons and tons of short films.
The fest opens with the portrait of a real-life Coney Island badass, Keith Suber, a reformed gang member who now teaches kids that violence isn’t the solution to their problems in the documentary The Last Immortal, directed by Charles Denson.
However, the highlight of the festival — in Bad Lit: The Journal of Underground Film’s opinion — is the headbangin’ documentary Heavy Metal Picnic by Jeff Krulik and John Heyn, which beautifully relives the glory days of ’80s era rock ‘n’ roll Maryland in all its raucous glory. Featuring footage from an outrageous backwoods farm concert and a reunion among its (slightly) more mature participants. Read the official Bad Lit documentary review here.

Dennis Sullivan (Christopher Gorham) is a genuinely nice guy. He works for a firm of accountants and is assigned by his vaguely unpleasant and sinister boss to a key client, Katie Wells (Susan Misner). Mrs Wells has recently lost her husband and together with her young son is struggling to come to terms with her loss. Sullivan, through a sightly bizarre sequence of events, winds up foiling a shop robbery while dressed up as Man America, who happens to be the favourite hero of Mrs Wells son, Jake. Man America becomes a symbol of hope for New York City, while Sullivan tries to be a friend to Jake and a support to his mother.
