Middle East film distributor Front Row Filmed Entertainment is giving Arabic and Bollywood distributors a chance to have their movies reach larger audiences thanks to a new deal making it an iTunes aggregator. The Apple service is the only platform in the Middle East that offers simultaneous releases in eight countries: UAE, Egypt, Bahrain, Qatar, Oman, Lebanon, Jordan and Kuwait. Front Row has already made some of its titles available including A Long Way Down, Rush, Diana and Where Do We Go Now? The company says it will aggressively pursue the premium VOD window, making titles available in eight territories across the Middle East including day-and-date theatrical releases in Saudi Arabia, where there are no movie theaters. “With free television not acquiring independent titles, the DVD market dying and Pay TV being extremely selective, I’m sure that local film distributors will finally find common grounds and encourage the VOD medium even more,...

A digital artist-in-residence has been given a free hand to create the ambience for London's new supercasino
A non-gambler might imagine the casino to be a dingy, smoke-filled basement where booze is trafficked and the sun never shines. That's how it was. But it might be time to revise your preconception as London's biggest and newest casino has the gambling joint of old graduated to a centre of entertainment, and this one has turned to art to make its atmosphere new and unique.
The Hippodrome Casino has commissioned the country's first digital artist-in-residence, whose task is to capture "the spirit" of the Hippodrome. It seems an anomalous combination – gambling and aesthetics – but it's in the ethos of a new kind of supercasino this place is introducing.

Film rental chain's brief revival under Gordon Brothers withers, while shoe retailer failed to attract £5m investment needed
More than 3,000 retail jobs are at risk just weeks before Christmas as the film rental chain Blockbuster and shoe shop Barratts announced they were going into administration.
Both retailers have failed before. Blockbuster was among a string of well-known high-street brands to go bust at the beginning of the year, while it is the third time Barratts has fallen into administration in less than five years.
There were also further job losses at regional airline Flybe, which said it was cutting 500 jobs in an attempt to save £26m a year, having struggled in a downturn that disproportionately affected economies outside London.
The retail collapses reflect ongoing troubles in the economy as inflation has continued to outstrip low wage increases, whittling down consumers' spare cash. This year has seen the failure of a string of retail casualties,...

Redditch Borough Council has been criticised after unveiling plans to warm a swimming pool using heat from a crematorium. Union leaders have hit out at the proposal, which aims to save £14,560 a year by transferring the heat generated when the cremators cool down to warm the Abbey Stadium pool, the Redditch Standard reports. Roger McKenzie, Unison West Midlands regional secretary, said: "I call on Redditch Borough Council to apologise to local residents for the insulting and insensitive proposals and to work with Unison to fight for a fairer budget settlement from the Conservative-led government." Simon Thomas of Thomas Brothers Funeral Directors had previously said: "I don't know how comfortable people would feel about the swimming pool being heated due to the death of a loved one - I think it's a bit strange and eerie.
