For a writer, signing on to “Planet of the Apes” is less an assignment than a calling. After all, it’s the longest-running science-fiction series in film history. So when Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver, the husband-and-wife screenwriting and producing team, conceived “Rise of the Planet of the Apes” in 2011, they envisioned more than a single-serving reboot. “We did see that if we played it right, there’d be at least three movies,” Jaffa tells Variety.
He wasn’t wrong: Their four-film stint culminates with “Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes,” the franchise’s 10th installment (and the first in a reported new trilogy). Their tenure follows that of Paul Dehn, who took over screenwriting duties from Rod Serling and Pierre Boulle for the 1970s “Planet of the Apes” sequels. “Kingdom” also echoes the series’ labyrinthine internal timeline, which elapses across a millennia of circular (and occasionally contradictory) storytelling.

The debut of Episode 8 of ‘X-Men ’97’ marked the commencement of its three-part finale, advancing the overarching narrative while also featuring a notable cameo. Christopher Barnes’ Spider-Man made a surprise appearance following Captain America, sparking fan speculation about the integration of ‘Spider-Man ’94’ into the continuity of the new ‘X-Men ’97.’
Previously, it was established that all Marvel Animated series, while not aligned with the MCU canon, belong to the broader Marvel Animated Multiverse. This categorization holds merit, given the significant disparities between the older and newer shows, offering a logical framework for their coexistence.
After Episode 8 aired, well-known industry insider Daniel Richtman asserted that ‘Spider-Man,’ ‘Iron Man,’ ‘Silver Surfer,’ ‘Fantastic Four,’ and ‘The Incredible Hulk’ all inhabit a shared universe.

The release of ‘X-Men ’97’ Episode 8 Started the three-part finale, and of course, advanced the overall story of the show, but it also included one notable cameo. After Captain America, Christopher Barnes’ Spider-Man showed up in the show, which prompted fans to conclude that ‘Spider-Man ’94’ is truly canon to the new ‘X-Men ’97.’
It was stated a while back that all Marvel Animated shows, despite not being canon to the MCU, are part of Marvel Animated Multiverse, and that definition is truly sensible and logical, since the older shows (and by extension new shows) contradict each other in quite a lot of ways.
Now following the release of episode 8, notable industry insider Daniel Richtman stated that ‘Spider-Man’, ‘Iron Man,’ ‘Silver Surfer,’ ‘Fantastic Four,’ and ‘The Incredible Hulk’ are all set within the same universe.

Just take a sneaky peak back on the movies we’ve covered so far on our Arnie Revisited series, and the Austrian Oak had already covered several genres in his rise from bodybuilder to Hollywood icon. Raw Deal and Commando were straight-up action movies, while his work as Conan was an epic mix of action and fantasy. You can even argue that The Terminator is a classic 80s slasher flick, and not simply the revolutionary sci-fi masterpiece it’s generally regarded as. However, he hadn’t managed to blend both horror and science fiction in any of his previous movies, in the way he did with the film we’re focusing on in today’s episode – Predator. It was such a huge success for both star and franchise that it not only helped to further cement Arnie as a Hollywood icon, but also created a franchise packed with sequels, a prequel,...

The NBA’s media team is hard at work on negotiations for its next national broadcasting deal these days. League negotiators can now talk with any outlet after their exclusive negotiating window with current TV partners ESPN and TNT lapsed on April 22, and the NBA also has to renegotiate a new agreement with Diamond Sports Group (Dsg) for teams whose local rights are owned by Bally Sports regional sports networks (RSNs). Sony Pictures Classics announced on Wednesday that it will release Nathan Silver’s acclaimed comedy Between the Temples, starring Jason Schwartzman (Asteroid City) and Carol Kane (The Dead Don’t Die), in theaters nationwide on August 23.
The film will open against Zoë Kravitz’s debut feature Blink Twice (Amazon MGM Studios), the animated pic 200% Wolf (Viva Pictures), the remake of The Crow starring Bill Skarsgärd (Lionsgate), and the drama The Forge from Affirm Films.

Sometime ago it was revealed that MCU’s Silver Surfer will be Julia Garner. Julia will be portraying Shalla-Bal, Norrin’s love interest in the comics, but there is a reality in which Shalla serves as the Herald of Galactus as well, Sunglow.
The reactions to Julia Garner’s casting were extremely polarizing with a good part of the community feeling that genderswapping Silver Surfer, whom 99% of people associate with being male, is extremely disrespectful to the character’s legacy. The second part of the fandom however feels that other versions of Silver Surfer – notably female ones, should get their moment of glory.
Now according to most recent rumors posted on private Pateron by Daniel Richtman, Norrin Radd will join Shalla-Bal in ‘Fantastic Four’ setting things right with the fanbase. This points in the direction that their story will be more comic-accurate than expected.

The NBA has banned Jontay Porter for life after a league investigation found the player had violated several league rules on gambling.
In an official statement, the NBA said Porter — most recently contracted to the Toronto Raptors — had passed “confidential information” to sports bettors, limited his own participation in games for betting purposes, and bet on NBA games himself. The league said its investigation remains open and it has shared, and will continue to share, all relevant information with federal prosecutors.

Speculation has arisen of late that the WNBA could seek its own media deal in this round of negotiations, but Adam Silver wants to keep the two leagues together.
Just how valuable an asset will Caitlin Clark be to the WNBA? The former Iowa guard’s stardom could be worth tens of millions of dollars to the league, which sees its broadcasting deal with ESPN expire after the 2024-25 season. The WNBA is currently negotiating a new broadcast rights contract jointly with the worldwide leader in sports alongside the NBA, but reports indicate that the women’s league could strike out on its own and make a new deal without the NBA’s help. But speaking at the NBA Board of Governors’ meeting this week, league commissioner Adam Silver said that he believes that the two leagues are best off negotiating with broadcast partners together.

Last week, it was announced that Julia Garner will portray MCU’s Silver Surfer. She’ll depict Shalla-Bal, known as Norrin’s love interest in the comics. However, in some versions, Shalla also serves as Galactus’s Herald, known as Sunglow.
Reactions to Julia Garner’s casting were mixed. Some in the community felt that changing Silver Surfer’s gender was disrespectful to the character’s legacy, as most associate the character with being male. Others believe that alternative versions of Silver Surfer, particularly female ones, deserve recognition.
Certainly, there are already calls to boycott the movie, but this isn’t the right approach. Regardless of your stance on the film, it’s important to watch it first, even if just to critique it later with an informed perspective. Speaking of Silver Surfer in live-action, we’ve previously seen him in ‘Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer,’ portrayed by Laurence Fishburne and Doug Jones.

The 1990s represented a golden epoch for action cinema. This was the time which saw VHS and its digitized successor DVD introduce a whole new generation of fans to the magic of stars like Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sylvester Stallone. And those titans from the ‘80s still claimed big wins, too, at the box office and home media via the likes of Terminator 2: Judgement Day, Demolition Man, and Cliffhanger.
It was also the decade that saw audiences turn out in droves to theaters and rental stores to catch a glimpse of Steven Seagal’s flying fists in movies like Under Siege or Jean-Claude Van Damme and his trademark splits in Timecop; Jackie Chan finally got the larger American fanbase he so richly deserved thanks to the Rush Hour movies while Bruce Willis gave us Die Hard With A Vengeance, the best of all the Die Hard sequels, before pivoting...

There are a lot cult classics from the 1980s, but Road House stands somewhere near the top. Julia Garner, the three-time Emmy-winning co-star of “Ozark,” looks to be joining Marvel’s next big bet, the relaunch of the First Family of Comics, “Fantastic Four.” As per Deadline, she’ll be appearing as the grooviest of villains, the Silver Surfer. But before you can reach for your podcast mic and shout about how producers are ruining movies by making them all woke, please note that a female version of the Silver Surfer, known as Shalla-Bal, does exist in various splinters of the comics’ multiverse. A new Fantastic Four reboot is currently in the works, and this one seemingly intends to right all the wrongs that the previous films from the original saga did. If anything, it seems to be especially setting a different course for the Silver Surfer than was seen in the previous installments, considering the most recent casting reports.
The Fantastic Four.
According to news from sources, Norrin Radd will seemingly have a new companion by his side when he gets introduced in the upcoming movie: Shalla-Bal, the character Julia Garner has been cast in. Judging from the turn of events, Garner’s character just might end up fixing one mistake that the old F4 film did with the Herald of Galactus’ story.

A few months ago, it was announced that the casting for the ‘Fantastic Four’ reboot had been finalized. Pedro Pascal will portray MCU’s new Reed Richards, with Vanessa Kirby cast as Sue Storm. Ebon Moss-Bachrach and Joseph Quinn will play The Thing and the Human Torch, respectively.
Yesterday, it was confirmed that Julia Garner will play Shalla-Bal, a female version of Silver Surfer, in the movie. Shalla-Bal is primarily known as Norrin Radd’s love interest in the comics.
The fan reactions varied, with some expressing anger that Marvel Studios is changing another significant character’s gender from the comics. Others in the fanbase noted that the character was always female and welcomed the new interpretation. Matt Shakman’s The Fantastic Four is reported to have hired Ozark star Julia Garner in the film. The film already has an ensemble cast in the form of Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, and Ebon-Moss Bachrach. It will be the first depiction of the characters in the MCU and is rumored to be set in an alternate reality. The characters have had two iterations before.
Julia Garner has been cast as the Silver Surfer in the upcoming film, which seemingly has not gone down well with fans. Though it is speculated that she would be playing the role of Shalla-Bal, a female version of the supervillain in another reality, fans seem to be extremely upset with the gender-swapped role and criticized Marvel for the move.

Prince of Persia is an iconic franchise of titles that has everything a hack-and-slash action-adventure game set in a distant past should contain. Its gameplay loop contains time-traveling abilities, parkour, and fluid combat. It was incredibly satisfying, and it has aged very gracefully.
Now, just one day after April Fool’s Day, the next game in the popular franchise is rumored to have been in development for four years and is announced to be coming to Early Access later this year. Bruce Timm happens to be the man behind Batman: The Animated Series, a show that is receiving praise like prayers.

The Matrix franchise has to be one of the greatest sci-fi movie series ever made that has pushed the genre to a new height. But it was never easy to make it. There were a lot of changes in the cast of several characters, including Neo and Trinity. But interestingly, the Wachowskis presented the script in a very different way.
Keanu Reeves as Neo in The Matrix films
Directed by the Wachowski siblings; Lilly Wachowski and Lana Wachowski, The Matrix franchise started on a weird note, at least not what Warner Brothers expected. The duo reportedly presented the script in a format that was beyond the wildest imagination of the studio. No wonder they picked it up after several rejections from so many different studios.

The NBA is looking to triple its revenues in its next national broadcasting deal. Which streaming partners will help it achieve that goal?
The NBA wants to get paid. The league’s current broadcasting rights deal expires following the 2024-25 season, and reports indicate it wants to make anywhere from double to triple the $24 billion it makes from its current broadcasting partners ESPN and TNT. In early 2023, reports surfaced that the league wanted to create a new package of games that will be sold exclusively to a streaming service, which gained further credence when it was reported that ESPN and TNT wanted to buy smaller packages of games in the next deal. When considering the league’s goals in growing its audience, increasing revenue, and being available to as many viewers as possible, it seems that Amazon’s Prime Video is the ideal streaming partner to purchase a new package of games.

Jake Gyllenhaal is trying to cool the controversy surrounding his upcoming action movie “Road House,” a remake of the 1989 cult favorite starring Patrick Swayze. The Amazon Prime Video movie has been slammed by none other than its director, Doug Liman, who is boycotting the film’s release due to Amazon’s decision not to open the movie in theaters. The new “Road House” launches on streaming via Prime Video in March. The film is premiering at SXSW, but Liman has said he will not be in attendance.
In a new interview with Total Film magazine, however, Gyllenhaal seemingly confirmed Variety’s report about “Road House” always being intended for a global streaming release. Sources familiar with the negotiations told Variety that Liman, Gyllenhaal and producer Joel Silver were given a choice: Make the film for $60 million and get a theatrical release or take $85 million and go streaming only. They opted for the latter.

Sitting in Pat McAfee’s studio in Indianapolis Feb. 14, NBA commissioner Adam Silver engaged in an extended conversation about the state of streaming sports.
McAfee, whose show is simulcast on ESPN, brought up the recently-announced joint venture between Disney, Fox, and Warner Bros. Discovery seems like a game-changing development. “We knew nothing about until it got announced,” McAfee said.
“Neither did I,” Silver responded dryly.
Indeed, multiple sources tell The Hollywood Reporter that the major sports leagues were all caught off guard by the announcement of the joint venture, though executives at the media companies endeavored to reach out and loop them in a few hours before it was revealed. The same is true of the cable and satellite companies that pay to distribute ESPN, TNT, TBS and Fox.
One of those distributors, FuboTV, would even sue to block the Jv from launching.

The Fantastic Four teaser image had a lot going for it, but the surprise that fans have been focusing on the most is the inclusion of H.E.R.B.I.E, the robot assistance that first made an appearance in the 1978 animated series. He was a replacement for The Human Torch, who was not licensed for the television series,.

However, H.E.R.B.I.E’s appearance in the poster implies there is at least going to be some alien involvement in the Fantastic Four film and it will most probably include Galactus.
