[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for The Girls on the Bus Season 1, Episode 8, “Life is a Highway.”] The Girls on the Bus has tackled a number of topical subjects over its run so far on Max, but none more frustrating than journalist Sadie’s (Melissa Benoist) quest to secure abortion pills in the episode, “Life is a Highway.” After discovering she’d become pregnant after a spontaneous hook-up with an on-again-off-again fling, Malcolm, a.k.a. Loafers (Brandon Scott), Sadie’s clock for an abortion began ticking as she opted to go with pills. The trouble with that? She is constantly traveling through different states where laws differ. Due to this metaphorical roadblock, Sadie was forced to cross state lines with the help of conservative reporter Kimberlyn (Christina Elmore) as she went to pick up the mailed pills in a P.O. Box. The only problem? She didn’t make it to the post office in time,...

The collapse of the Francis Scott Key bridge in Baltimore triggered a very early wake-up call for reporters and producers working in Maryland newsrooms early Tuesday morning.
The incident, caused by a cargo ship that accidentally crashed into one of the bridge’s support beams, happened around 1:30 a.m. local time, when many newsrooms were operating with few workers who were able to cover the massive story.
International news organizations were among some of the first to cover the incident, with Reuters, the Associated Press and BBC News pushing out news bulletins that offered few details in the hour immediately following the collapse.

Inspired by, but definitely not closely adapted from, Amy Chozick’s 2018 book Chasing Hillary, The Girls on the Bus may be on Max, but it’s a throwback to a certain type of broad, big-hearted, semi-topical dramedy that TV fans used to associate with The WB.
As a female-forward workplace buddy comedy with soapy undertones, The Girls on the Bus (Chozick and The Vampire Diaries mastermind Julie Plec are credited as creators) is quite good — the casting is strong, the character dynamics appealing. As a show about journalism, The Girls on the Bus is decent — smart about a lot of things, dumb about others, but not disproportionately. As a political thriller, The Girls on the Bus is mostly a crock.

“The Girls on the Bus,” Max’s long-in-the-works journalism dramedy series from the producers of “The Flight Attendant,” finally has a trailer.
The series follows four women as they work as embedded political reporters on a presidential campaign trail. HBO has unveiled some first-look photos from The Girls on the Bus, the upcoming Max drama series based on Amy Chozick’s best-selling book, Chasing Hillary, which is set to premiere on Thursday, March 14. Created by Julie Plec and Chozick, the series centers on Sadie McCarthy (Melissa Benoist), a journalist who romanticizes a bygone era of campaign reporting. Inspired by Chozick’s real experiences as a political reporter, the story follows Sadie as she scraps her whole life for a shot at covering a presidential candidate for a paper of record. Sadie joins the campaign bus, where she meets and eventually bonds with three female competitors, Grace (Carla Gugino), Lola (Natasha Behnam), and Kimberlyn (Christina Elmore). Despite their differences, this trio of women becomes a found family with a front-row seat to the greatest soap opera in the world – the battle for the White House. In addition to Benoist, Gugino,...

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for The Other Two Season 3 Episode 7, “Cary Gets His Ass Handed to Him.”] The fight that had been building all season between Cary (Drew Tarver) and Curtis (Brandon Scott Jones) finally happens on The Other Two. With Curtis’ show Girlies out and initially a hit, Cary decides not to join his friend … until the bad reviews start coming in. And Curtis calls him out when Cary claims to be there to support him (“Go f**k yourself”), knowing he was jealous. “It’s sad that I know my friend did that, and I never would’ve jumped to that conclusion last year,” he says. “You support me when I’m below you. You’re happy for me when I’m below you.” With that, he tells Cary to leave — and he does. Jones breaks down that pivotal, heartbreaking scene and teases what’s ahead. That confrontation was so good and so heartbreaking.

Our Wtf Happened to This Horror Movie? video series often covers older films. You may have noticed that we have a particular fondness for movies from the 1980s. But occasionally we cover more recent releases as well, and the movie we’re looking at with today’s episode of Wtf Happened to This Horror Movie? was just released six years ago. The film in question is Blair Witch (watch it Here), and you can find out all about it by watching the video embedded above.
Directed by Adam Wingard from a screenplay written by Simon Barrett, Blair Witch is, of course, a follow-up to The Blair Witch Project. This one has the following synopsis:
A young man and his friends venture into the Black Hills Forest in Maryland to uncover the mystery surrounding his missing sister. Many believe her disappearance 17 years earlier is connected to the legend of the Blair Witch.

A few episodes into the third and final season of “Dead to Me” on Netflix, Jen (Christina Applegate) quickly catches up Judy (Linda Cardellini) on the latest chaos unfolding in their entangled lives.
“That’s a lot!,” says Judy.
“Yeah, it’s way too fuckin’ much!,” Jen replies.
That exchange is “Dead to Me” in a nutshell, Liz Feldman’s dark comedy that premiered in 2019 and wraps up with a third and final season nearly three years after it last aired. Judy met Jen at a grief support group after driving the car that killed her husband, and a few months later the two of them were in cahoots concealing Jen’s accidental murder of Judy’s ex Steve (James Marsden). The rest is soapy twists and turns and secret twins and lots of expletives — as only “Dead to Me” delivers.

The first season of Liz Feldman's "Dead to Me," a darkly funny wine-mom sunshine noir, was a real gem. It felt like it came out of nowhere, and it hooked you from the jump. The series had a big trick up its sleeve: in addition to likable, wine-chugging, foul-mouthed leads, practically every episode ended with a shocking twist or cliffhanger, ensuring that viewers would have no choice to binge. In short, I loved it. And I enjoyed season 2 as well, although there was a noticeable drop in quality (it happens). After a hiatus due to both the Covid-19 pandemic and star Christina Applegate's multiple sclerosis diagnosis, the series returns for its third and final season, and I won't lie: I was excited for one last ride.
So it brings me no pleasure to say the show goes out with a whimper rather than a bang. Perhaps it's due to...

It’s been two-and-a-half years since the second season of “Dead to Me” dropped on Netflix, and since it was in the middle of 2020, it seems like even longer.
With the third and final season of Liz Feldman’s dark comedy, starring Christina Applegate and Linda Cardellini, dropping on Nov. 17, Variety is sharing a quick refresher on the biggest things that occurred during the first two seasons.
Judy (Cardellini) and Jen (Applegate) have been partners in crime, quite literally, for some time now. The duo first met in a grief support group after the death of Jen’s husband, Ted. Judy begins helping her take care of her sons, Charlie (Sam McCarthy) and Henry (Luke Roessler), and becomes part of her family. Eventually, Jen finds out that Judy and her estranged husband, Steve (James Marsden), were the ones responsible for Ted’s death: Judy was driving the car and Steve...

It’s been almost three years since Netflix’s twisted, soapy dramedy about grief, friendship, and concealing murder last aired — so where exactly did we leave off on “Dead to Me?” It’s easier to remember a show once it’s back on our screens, but Liz Feldman’s series is known for throwing viewers into the deep end.
Here’s a quick refresher on “Dead to Me” Seasons 1 and 2, ahead of Season 3’s November 17 premiere.
Jen and Judy
Jen (Christina Applegate) and Judy (Linda Cardellini) met at a grief support group in the show’s premiere episode. Jen was mourning her husband Ted, who died in a hit and run, and Judy because her fiancee is “gone” and, it turns out, she experienced multiple miscarriages. Grief, anger, and insomnia bond these two women instantly, and they’ve remained comrades and confidantes through some truly insane circumstances.
The Men
Jen’s marriage wasn’t perfect.

“The truth’s gonna come out. It always does,” warns Detective Perez (Diana Maria Riva) in the trailer for the final season of Netflix’s “Dead to Me.” She’s addressing Christina Applegate’s Jen, who in the last episodes will continue to be ensnared in the murder investigation of Steve Wood (James Marsden). In its first two seasons, the dark comedy chronicled the fateful friendship and unfortunate connection between Jen and Linda Cardellini’s Judy, and in the last 10 episodes – which drop on Netflix on Nov. 17 – the duo seem closer and more deceitful than ever. Watch the “Dead to Me” final season trailer above.

Exclusive: Mark Consuelos has joined the cast of HBO Max’s The Girls on the Bus in a recurring role.
Consuelos will portray a major Hollywood action star-turned-politician who joined the presidential race after a Twitter poll said 46 percent of Americans would vote for him — regardless of party affiliation.
From writers Amy Chozick and Julie Plec, The Girls On The Bus centers on Sadie McCarthy (Melissa Benoist), a journalist who romanticizes Tim Crouse’s Boys on the Bus book and who scrapped her whole life for her own shot at covering a presidential campaign for the paper of record. Sadie hits the trail and eventually bonds with three female competitors, Grace (Carla Gugino), Lola (Natasha Behnam), and Kimberlyn (Christina Elmore). Despite their differences, the women become a found family with a front-row seat to the greatest soap opera in town: the battle for the White House.

For many years now Venice has been a respectful platform for those big-name directors of the 1970s and early ’80s who are happy to go back into the fray long after those juicy studio budgets dried up: Brian De Palma, William Friedkin, Paul Verhoeven, John Carpenter and — to a lesser extent — George Romero all found a home here for their late-period passion projects. Walter Hill, now 80, joins their ranks with an improbably youthful horse opera, and while it shows up the limitations of both writing and shooting a Western in the modern age, it’s nevertheless a wickedly enjoyable genre romp and full of violent surprises.
Hill dedicates his film to Budd Boetticher, which is a shame as it has already given critics permission not to think any harder...

The title of Walter Hill’s “Dead for a Dollar” makes it sound like a spaghetti Western, and the picture opens with stunning vistas and a wistfully valorous neo-Morricone score that gives you the impression — maybe the hope — that it will be. It ends on a very different note: a series of titles explaining, with precise dates and details, what happened to each of the main characters, as if the film were based on a true story. It’s the “American Graffiti” gambit of treating fictional characters as though they were real, only in this case it ends up revealing something essential about the drama we’ve been watching. Namely, how it could be so avid, specific, and scrupulously carpentered…yet remote.
Hill, who is now 80 but still directs with his lean-and-mean vigor and classical rawhide stoicism, builds “Dead for a Dollar” around a vintage confrontation between two men: Max Borlund,...

What room is left for an honest gunslinger in a world where their tropes are repackaged ad infinitum? Have meticulous imitators like Red Dead Redemption actually killed their makers? These are the half-truths that Walter Hill must contend with in Dead for a Dollar—as he must with shadows of past glories and, frankly, his film’s aesthetic limitations. Hill rounds up an Aish-list cast for a setup reminiscent of many modern Westerns, but with a few well-worn contemporary revisions thrown into the mix. “It’s an attempt,” Hill recently explained, “to deal with the modern issues of race and gender that we still struggle with today.” Well, no shame in trying.

Let Walter Hill take you back to the Old West and diplomacy, 1897-style, where differences are figured out with card games and bullwhips, and folks have itching powder all over their trigger fingers. Shooting someone dead is presented as a go-to for how to resolve an argument in this world. References to guns are made with such regularity that it becomes unclear whether this is a straight Western or a pastiche. Dialogue tends to unfold like this. Even the highly jiggery-pokered look of the film, presumably shot on digital but adjusted in post so that all the blues get filtered out, makes the movie look like something made 60 or 70 years ago. The palette is a study in earth tones,...
