Anyone who has seen "Mission: Impossible - Fallout" remembers the film's big antagonist reveal scene. CIA operative August Walker (Henry Cavill), known best for beating up goons in bathrooms and reloading his muscles, is unveiled to be none other than John Lark, an extremist in cahoots with terrorist mastermind Solomon Lane (Sean Harris). This pivotal scene is preceded by an equally tense sequence, where Imf Secretary Alan Hunley (Alec Baldwin) accuses Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) of being Lark, and the two engage in a heated discussion about the mission and the stakes at hand. While this scene flows pretty naturally after the intense action that precedes it, there were practical reasons behind the zoomed-in focus on Hunt and Hunley's faces, who were seen leaning against the table during the scene.
There's a lot to glean from the film's audio commentary, where Cruise and director Christopher McQuarrie talk at length about Easter eggs,...

The sixth "Mission: Impossible" film, "Fallout," has the most fun toying with its audience. The first time it does so is one of the best surprises I've ever experienced in a movie.
The set-up: Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) and his Impossible Mission Force (Imf) team fail to stop a terrorist group called the Apostles from stealing three plutonium cores. So, they capture nuclear physicist Nils Delbruuk (Kristoffer Joner), a member of the Apostles.
Cut to two weeks later, with Ethan and Luther Stickell (Ving Rhames) standing in a hospital. Delbruuk is handcuffed to a bed while the room's TV blasts CNN. Newscaster Wolf Blitzer (as himself) is reporting how the world's three holiest cities — Rome, Jerusalem, and Mecca — have been destroyed, with footage from the nuked cities included. Have our heroes really failed this badly? Delbruuk thinks so.

For all the remarkable feats accomplished by the Mission Impossible franchise when it comes to reinventing modern action movies, one key aspect was notably absent from the series: the presence of a strong female character in a prominent role. Don’t get us wrong; characters like Jane Carter, Nyah Hall, Julia Meade, and Sabine Moreau were exceptional in their respective roles, but their characters didn’t have more individuality than the story required of them during their brief appearances. With the appearance of the mysterious triple agent Ilsa Faust, played by Rebecca Ferguson, the franchise got a truly great addition to its gallery of female lead it can boast of, who seemed competent enough to take on the franchise lead mantle on her own. Introduced in Rogue Nation, the character has left a prominent impact on Ethan’s life and career, the Imf’s position as a global espionage agency,...

The Mission: Impossible films have always had a fluid relationship with their own history. Many characters will play central roles in one film and then never return to the franchise again. And tracking the history of the Imf - the Impossible Mission Force - that Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise), Luther Stickell (Ving Rhames), and Benji Dunn (Simon Pegg) are a part of is more than a little complicated. But the newest film in the franchise, "Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One," aka "Mission: Impossible 7," features the return of a character from the very first film. In the new movie, Henry Czerny reprises his role as Eugene Kittridge from 1996's "Mission: Impossible."
Who Is Eugene Kittridge in "Mission: Impossible"?
In the first "Mission: Impossible," Kittridge is the director of the Imf. In that movie, Kittridge is on the hunt for a mole in the Imf, and he thinks it's Ethan.

Henry Cavill spent an "uncomfortably long" time in the bathroom while filming "Mission: Impossible – Fallout." If you've seen the movie, then you'll know Cavill's character, August Walker, wasn't on the toilet, waiting to die like John Travolta's hitman in "Pulp Fiction." (It's a thing.)
Part of the time, Walker is in a stall with two other men, one of them being Ethan Hunt, played by Travolta's fellow Scientologist, Tom Cruise. However, contrary to what the rowdy Parisians who come knocking on their door think, Walker and Hunt and their unconscious captive are there for face-scanning purposes and not a romantic rendezvous.
In a 2017 Instagram post, the summer before "Fallout" hit theaters, Cavill highlighted the skills of Chinese stuntman and Wu Shu champion Liang Yang, who plays said captive, the decoy of John Lark.

Hollywood Heroes™: There may not be a more reliable brand in blockbuster action fare than Tom Cruise. For a large portion of his career, Cruise, has been saving the world in style. When you think of an actor running away from an explosion, you 100% think of Cruise. This week, he returns to his long running Mission: Impossible franchise with a new installment that sets the bar for the whole series. Yes, Mission: Impossible – Fallout is the best one yet. It’s an action thrill ride that also works as an emotionally and intellectually fulfilling journey. Sure, it’s often nonsense and ridiculous, but in terms of Hollywood cinema, it’s just tremendous. The movie is the fifth installment in the Mission: Impossible franchise, but the first direct sequel. Fallout picks up a few years after Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation, but builds on the conclusion of that flick. This is...
