"How did I get here?" "Just retrace your steps, it's what I do when I'm lost..." An early promo trailer has debuted for a peculiar genre mash-up film titled Wonderland Recoil, made by Danish filmmaker Shaun Rana. The film is premiering in December this year at the Psychedelic and Film and Music Festival in New York. Rana describes the film as "a futuristic & surreal take on Lewis Carroll's Alice in Wonderland - with a genre mix of sci-fi / cyberpunk & fantasy." Heavily influenced by John Carpenter and David Cronenberg, the film features some crazy cool practical effects. The story follows a young woman who tries out a psychedelic drug called Nirvana, but ends up trapped in "an inescapable nightmare." What if you could 3D print drugs? Starring David Sakurai, Sisse Marie, Afshin Firouzi, Louise Hylland, and Lene Nystrøm (from the pop group Aqua). This definitely looks like some early Cronenberg mixed in with early Gilliam,...

We've been covering director Shaun Rana's projects over the last few years, from the concept art for Days of Victory to the kick ass concept trailer for Warren Lich. Now Rana, still working with many of the same themes, has created a concept video for another potential project: Electus: Days of Enlightenment.

Last August we brought word of a new post-apocalyptic actioner by visionary director Shaun Rana (Warren Lich) called Days of Victory. The story about two enemy soldiers stranded on a dead planet sounded a lot like Barry B. Longyear's "Enemy Mine" and we were struck by the amazing concept art which showed to futuristic soldiers facing off on the rubble of war torn planet earth.
Now we've got two new pieces of artwork courtesy of Rana's team that you should really check out. They are even better than the first (which is also included in this post.)
Synopsis:
In the aftermath of the rise and fall of the New World Order, World Wars 3 & 4 have laid bare a post-apocalyptic world. The Muslim world and the West are locked in hatred toward one another. WW5 erupts. Two soldiers from each side of the conflict, sworn enemies, face off in an air strike over a desolate,...

If the concept trailer for the upcoming Danish film Warren Lich is any indication, the name Shaun Rana is one we'll be hearing a lot more of in the coming weeks and months.
Unfortunately, even though there's an official website already set up for Warren Lich, details are scarce other than the fact that Rana served as director, writer, co-producer, editor, co-composer, cinematographer, costumer, propmaker, and effects person extraordinaire on the trailer. He did have some help in the concept art and animation departments along with a few other places, but overall it looks like a virtual one-man show.
And it was all done on a budget of approximately 1,000 Euros.
Dig on the trailer and some preliminary artwork below (click the image for more), and keep it here for updates on Warren Lich as they come. This is one flick we'll definitely be keeping a close eye on.

Remember the incredible sounding Days of Victory we reported on a while back? The one we were all excited about? Well it's still in development, but Shaun Rana just got in touch with us and is back with something even better and it's called Warren Lich. Story details are slim, but have to do with the rebellion and a bounty hunter. This will be a feature film and we have an Incredible 4 minute concept trailer.
Really folks you want to check this out.
And we have a gallery of concept art after the break.
Head to Quiet Earth to see the stills.
Embedded video stripped, see full HTML version.

Barry B. Longyear's Hugo award winning novella, "Enemy Mine" is a science fiction masterwork about the human propensity to succumb to xenophobia. In the book, a human and an alien soldier, whose races are in a state of war, are marooned together in space and have to come to grips with their blind hatred towards each other in order to survive a hostile environment that is foreign to them both. The eventual film adaptation by Wolfgang Petersen is actually pretty decent and if you're at all a fan of 80s scifi and haven't seen it you really should.
Director Shaun Rana has a film in early development called Days of Victory which, while still scifi, brings the metaphor back down to earth, so to speak. Taking place in a post-apocalyptic future world barely standing after decades of wars between Muslims and the rest of the world, two soldiers blinded by...
