CBS is asking an L.A. judge to end a three-year legal fight over profits from the MacGyver reboot — arguing that the plaintiffs’ breach of contract claim fails because there was never a “meeting of the minds” on key terms and they haven’t proven an enforceable agreement exists.
The dispute stems from a TV producing deal in the mid-1980s involving actor-producer Henry Winkler, director-producer John Rich, Paramount and Major Talent Agency that preceded the original MacGyver series.
Following the launch of the 2016 reboot, Hanzer Holdings and Arlita sued CBS claiming they’re entitled to a share in profits for ...

Adam Wong’s “The Way We Keep Dancing” is a follow up to his great success from 2013 – “The Way We Dance”, his indisputably great take on Hong Kong’s street dance culture. This time the focus isn’t that much on dancing itself, but on the irreparable harm to the art community caused by the cunning strategies developed by the urban planning machinery to gentrify parts of the city.
The Way We Keep Dancing is screening at Osaka Asian Film Festival

When “All in the Family” debuted Jan. 12, 1971, on CBS, it was exactly the TV show America needed — though America didn’t realize it at the time.
Norman Lear and Bud Yorkin had taped two ABC pilots of the script, both starring Carroll O’Connor and Jean Stapleton, starting in 1968. But ABC was reluctant to commit; as Lear told Variety’s Army Archerd, it was “too controversial.”
Lear and Yorkin took the show to CBS, which surprisingly bought it.
The show was carefully tested for a long time. On July 22, 1970 — six months before the debut — Variety asked CBS president Robert Wood why the network wasn’t trumpeting the new show. He said, “Frankly, we’re still not sure how to introduce this one to the public … it might just be best to go on with no fanfare, and then prepare ourselves for the explosion.”

If you’ve seen coverage of Fox Nation and wondered how it differs from Fox News, executives have heard you. A new 20-second ad outlining the differences between Fox News and its subscription streaming service will air during the Super Bowl on Feb. 2.
The spot, titled “Celebrating America,” sees a producer running from a Fox News control room to find talent who can cover breaking news. When he runs into the green room, he finds Fox Nation talent, Marilyn Monroe, a firefighter and a bald eagle.
“This is actually the Fox Nation green room,” says Abby Hornacek, who hosts the travel-themed Fox Nation show “Park’d,” along with the streaming service’s “American Arenas” — which goes inside sports venues — and “The Ride to Work.”

Julia Louis-Dreyfus knew the bar was high when it came time to end “Veep.”
“It was very important for us to stick this f—ing landing and then some,” she told Variety‘s My Favorite Episode podcast. “Because I really feel this has been the job of a lifetime for me thus far. I feel and felt very protective of it from the beginning. I was fiercly determined to get this sucker right on the way out.”
In the end, President Selina Meyer’s legacy “is a dismal one and to be forgotten, and it’s appropriate,” Louis-Dreyfus noted. And then, of course, there is the heartbreaking moment where Selina sells out her one true loyalist, sycophant bag boy Gary Walsh (Tony Hale), who is sent to jail to clear the path for her election.

A stalwart Democrat plus Fox News Channel? That’s a recipe for making sparks fly. But Donna Brazile says she’s not looking for a fight when she appears on the cable-news outlet.
Brazile, the former campaign manager for Al Gore in 2000 and a one-time interim chair of the Democratic National Committee, was named a Fox News contributor in March, and since that time has made appearances on everything from “Fox & Friends” to “The Five.” She says she’s ready to hold forth in any timeslot the network wants to put her – even if it’s during Fox News’ opinion-led primetime block, where the hosts are often supportive of President Trump.
“I’m not saying I don’t have strong views. I have strong views,” says Brazile during a recent wide-ranging phone interview. “I think it’s important to be civil.”

Our night in downtown Nashville begins in a bank-turned-tattoo-parlor-turned-Luke Bryan-themed restaurant with a pickup truck dangling over the stage where a band is covering Maren Morris’s “My Church.” The space has six levels, eight bars, numerous light-up “Luke Bryan” signs and more flat screens than a Best Buy. But we are on the roof drinking Coors Light and eating fried sushi.

The Celebrity Apprentice is back on January 4th, and it looks like another unbelievable season pitting celebrities of varying (and questionable) “List” rankings against each other in a series of “events” that mean nothing beyond who can sucker in the most other celebrities to donate money.
That may sound negative, but overall the show is one of my favorites, and one that I can’t support enough. Now, it isn’t that I enjoy watching the bizarre clashes between people you forgot existed, people who have to be identified to justify their celebrity status, and people dumb enough to show up because they were only invited for their hate-watch draw. The show occasionally has something interesting going on in the weekly contest, but the general “celebrities are just as nuts as the regular people we con into signing up for this,” appeal doesn’t really work for me. No, it...

First-time Cma nominees Florida Georgia Line will also be first-time winners according to our predictors, who give them field-leading 3/10 odds to win Vocal Duo of the Year. But to do so they'll have to get past a pair of previous victors. Sugarland won this category for five consecutive years (2007-2011) before finally losing to Thompson Square in 2012. But this year Thompson Square ranks third with 12/1 odds, while Sugarland trails in fourth with 25/1 odds. -Break- If anyone beats Florida Georgia Line it will more likely be The Civil Wars, whom our predictors place second with 10/1 odds. But a win for them might very well be their last; the duo announced an indefinite hiatus late in 2012 due to "irreconcilable differences." Despite the discord, their self-titled second album was released to critical acclaim and strong record sales this past August. The two remaining nominees are unlikely to threaten: Love and Theft and Big and Rich...

Celebrity Apprentice 2013 eliminated Marilu Henner in episode 10 tonight. Tonight's show, kicked off with a little conversation footage before Trump revealed to the celebs that they had to design a Foxwoods Resort themed suite and host a party at the brand-new Barclays Center for their new task. They were judged on creativity, brand messaging, and overall party atmosphere. Lisa Rinna was made project manager for team Plan B,and Marilu Henner took over project manager duties for team Power. Then it was revealed that the winning project manager would win $100,000 for their charity. Don Trump Jr. and former champ, John Rich, were the advisers. Next, they showed all the prep footage. Plus, John Rich returns to wrangle in the final five contestants.
The May 5 episode of All-Star Celebrity Apprentice hit very close to home, as Donald Trump tasked the remaining competitors with designing a suite based on the Foxwoods Resort, then throwing a party at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center. (By “close to home,” I mean my apartment is three-ish stops away from Barclays Center — in case you want to stalk me, or send me any of your dollars.)
Marilu Henner and Lisa Rinna were named project managers, and as you can imagine, the claws came out in the boardroom — but they weren’t scratching at each other!
Boardroom Battle: Marlu Henner Vs. Lil Jon
Lil Jon described Marilu’s leadership as “interesting,” hinting that she might have been a little too hands-on. In retaliation, she revealed she “didn’t trust” Lil Jon during the competition. She then claimed that Trace Adkins acted ”curmudgeonly,...

Tonight’s episode of All-Star Celebrity Apprentice was like a game of chess. Which is to say that a good portion of the action revolved around the fact that one of the teams brought a chess board to a party. Because nothing spells p-a-r-t-y like sitting there watching someone take someone else’s rook. When it was all over, one person would pay for that fatal flaw and be fired from the game. My full recap will be up at 2 a.m. (Update: Click the link for Dalton’s full Celebrity Apprentice recap), but to find out or sound off on who was fired,...

Plus, which celebrity did Donald Trump call a ‘stressed-out bitch?’
Donald Trump brought back Bret Michaels — the first person eliminated this season — to help him out on the April 21 episode of The All-Star Celebrity Apprentice, and it’s a good thing he brought his trademark bandana along for the ride, because this week’s task had everyone sweating come boardroom time.
This week’s teams — led by Brande Roderick and Penn Jillette, respectively — were given the task of developing an interactive travel expo for South Africa Tourism, and as always, everyone had a different opinion about how each of their teams performed.
When asked about Gary Busey‘s performance, Lisa Rinna took a dangerously long pause before saying he did “very well.” (after a long pause), but Penn was a little more straight-forward. He questioned Gary’s methods in acquiring Zulu dancers for the exhibit, at which point Gary spewed...

What had ETOnline readers buzzing this week?
1. Prince Michael Jackson is New Et Correspondent
Having grown up in show business, Prince Michael proved to be a gifted interviewer as he conducted his first sit-down as an Et correspondent.
Michael Jackson's 16-year-old son impressed Oz the Great and Powerful stars James Franco and Zach Braff as well as director Sam Raimi with his confidence and competence on his first assignment.
"You're doing awesome," Braff gushed. "You're a natural."
Prince Michael returned the compliment, praising their work in the fantasy flick and getting Franco to shed some light on how he approached playing the lead role of Oscar Diggs, a small-time circus magician with dubious ethics.
"I saw that his particular transformation would allow for comedy," Franco explained. "Because he's a conman -- that would get him into a lot of awkward situations that could be played for comedy."

Meat Loaf probably won't be serenading Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) anytime soon.
After Meat Loaf "performed" "America the Beautiful" at a recent event for Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney, a TMZ photographer caught up with McCain in Washington, D.C., on Friday and asked if he thought they should "change up the song sometimes?"
"Change the song? Or have someone who knows the words?" McCain responded. "Maybe either. That's a good choice."

Meat Loaf, Big and Rich and Randy Owen of the band Alabama joined Romney on stage at an event in Ohio on Thursday. The four of them sang "America the Beautiful," and Meat Loaf, appearing to struggle with some of the words, improvised part of the song.

"Bat Out of Hell" rocker and "Celebrity Apprentice" alum Meat Loaf showed his support for Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney on Thursday (Oct. 25) the best way he knows how -- with his voice. However, some folks -- namely those who could hear him -- weren't too impressed with his performance.
Meat Loaf joined forces with country music stars Randy Owens, Big Kenny and John Rich, another "Celebrity Apprentice" vet, at a Romney rally in Defiance, Ohio, to serenade the presidential hopeful with their rendition of "America the Beautiful."
As seen in the video below from NBC, Owens and Rich kept things traditional at first with the number. But there's nothing traditional about Meat Loaf -- unless it's on your dinner table -- who can't be held back by the likes of the song's pesky notes, lyrics and more than a hundred years of history.

All-Star Celebrity Apprentice‘s cast of 14 includes Michaels, Trace Adkins, Stephen Baldwin, Gary Busey, Penn Jillette, Lil Jon, Dennis Rodman, Dee Snider, Omarosa, Marilu Henner, La Toya Jackson, Claudia Jordan, Lisa Rinna and Brande Roderick. After each finalist got a chance to give a final performance -- Michael Ray did "Barefoot Blue Jean Night" by Jake Owen, Iliana did "Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow" by Carole King and Jordan Baird did "So Sick" by Ne-Yo -- country singer Michael Ray was named the winner.

Last week featured a duet between mentors Joe Jonas and Gloria Estafan, so it was no surprise that Nelly and John Rich hit the stage together on "The Next: Fame Is At Your Doorstep." The country and hip-hop mash-up took on "American Woman," and stayed faithful to the original, at the New York performance show.
New York came out with four strong competitors featuring unique styles and plenty of vocal strengths. But in the end, it was 18-year old Ali Brustofski who took away the honor of moving on to the semi-finals.
She had to break her attachment to her microphone stand first, which she was able to do thanks to her mentor Gloria Estafan. Brustofski had some visible nerves during her performance, but there was no denying the strength of her vocals.
Viewers at home were also told that they'd get a chance to save one performer who didn't...
