By the time he signed on for Justin Bieber’s Believe tour in 2012, Lance “K.C.” Jackson had more than 30 years under his belt as a stage manager and touring pro; he’d worked with Prince, Destiny’s Child, Luther Vandross, and Earth, Wind, and Fire, among others. Now, on a tour headlined by a white artist, he drew quizzical looks backstage whenever he went to help Bieber with a harness that allowed him to descend onto the stage sporting wings. “There aren’t a lot of black props workers out there,...

Aloe Blacc and Vic Mensa have both contributed to a new benefit album, Defund the Sheriff, that’s part of a campaign to shift funding from police and incarceration in Los Angeles County toward other public services.
Mensa appears on much of the album, including the opening track, “Largest Jail System on Earth,” alongside Lauren Jauregui and Richie Reseda, and “The Caging of Los Angeles,” which boasts Reseda and Fitz and the Tantrums’ Noelle Scaggs. Blacc, meanwhile, contributed two songs: “Black is Beautiful,” under his Avery Blackman moniker, and “Shine Your Light,...

Fitz and the Tantrums have announced a new album, All the Feels, scheduled for release September 20th.
“So many highs and lows this last year but we’ll make it through together,” said lead vocalist Michael Fitzpatrick. “We are so excited to finally share what we’ve been working so hard on. ‘All The Feels’ has all the emotions. We hope you love it as much as we do.”
To celebrate the announcement, they’ve released a video for the title track, featuring Fitzpatrick suffering an unusual heart attack. A...

With a hot new single on the airwaves and a tour under way, Michael “Fitz” Fitzpatrick – the frontman of pop band Fitz & the Tantrums – is flying high.
“I make music to have people hear it,” Fitzpatrick tells People in this week’s issue. “I want it to reach as many people and then we go out on tour, and every night I’m like ‘Is anybody actually gonna show up?’ Then I look out and there’s 5,000 people out there to see us, and I come out on stage and they all know the songs.”
He says, “It’s the dream – that’s everything.

As of May 7th, I have been eagerly awaiting to feature the multi-faceted outfit, Fitz And The Tantrums, in Shockya’s “Artist Of The Week”. This past Tuesday, the sextet dropped their sophomore album, “More Than Just A Dream” via Elektra Records. Founded by Michael Fitzpatrick (vocals) in 2008, Fitz And The Tantrums, which consists of Noelle Scaggs (vocals), James King (saxophonist), John Wicks (drums), Joseph Karnes (bassist) and Jeremy Ruzumna (keyboardist), released their debut Ep, “Songs For A Breakup, Vol.1” in 2009 and the following year dropped their first full-length, “Pickin’ Up The Pieces”. Solidifying them as a breakout band, “Pickin’ Up The Pieces”, revamped classic Motown music by adding [ Read More ]

For Fitz & The Tantrums’ second album, “More Than Just A Dream,” the Los Angeles band incorporates many of the sounds of the ‘80s, especially on first single, “Out Of My League,” so it’s entirely fitting, if not particularly scintillating, that the video for “League” looks like something from that era. [More after the jump...] Someone’s gotten a new computer and is not afraid to use it: Images dissolve, split, get pixillated, and digitized with in myriad ways as the band: primarily lead singers Fitz and Noelle Scaggs shimmy and coo through the song, which sounds straight off of a Human...

There's been nary a peep from Lollapalooza officials on the festival's 2013 headliners so far, but the internet has been kicking up plenty of rumors, predictions and wild guesses in the meantime.
The official word on the lineup is expected sometime in April, but early speculation will at least hit the mark on one front: a definite lack of ladies rocking Grant Park come August.
Among the headliners "leaked" in an unverified stab at the lineup that came out last month, there were just four women total in the 19 bands mentioned -- and zero female-led groups.
Women are all but absent in Consequence of Sound's predictions as well, save Fitz and the Tantrums, whose soul engine is powered by singer Noelle Scaggs.
While Time Out Chicago made some very smart predictions, the only female-led band floated was also the only act dismissed with an oblique jab: the Karen O-fronted Yeah Yeah Yeahs...
