“A Different Man,” a chilling story of identity and obsession with a dark sense of humor, debuted at Sundance with a well-received Sunday evening premiere at the Eccles Center.
The A24 film stars Sebastian Stan, Renate Reinsve and Adam Pearson in a tale of an actor who has facial reconstruction surgery and must come to terms with the fact that a theater role based on his life is given to another actor.
During the screening, the Sundance audience was rapt with attention at the twisty script, which included a strange and kinky sex scene that left people squirming in their seats, as well as some realistic gore that earned yelps from the audience.
After the premiere, writer and director Aaron Schimberg joined Stan, Reinsve and Pearson onstage for a Q&a to dive into the film’s themes. At one point, Pearson, who has neurofibromatosis, discussed how he was able...

Updated with details of Byron Allen bid. As Deadline reported Thursday, Byron Allen is interested in Disney’s linear TV assets, and overnight that interest progressed to a formal offer.
Sources familiar with the discussions said Allen late Thursday offered $10 billion for ABC, Disney’s eight local TV stations, FX and the National Geographic Channel. Bloomberg and Reuters are among the media outlets reporting the official offer.
The offer is pegged at eight times Ebitda, but it uses estimated financials and could be adjusted, sources said. Strategically, the notion of removing FX and Nat Geo — both of which are embedded within Disney streaming outlets Hulu and Disney+ — from Disney control raises a number of questions. But the Charter carriage renewal earlier this week, which left networks like Freeform and Fxx without distribution on the No. 2 pay-tv service in the U.S., indicate the climate change in the media business.

When it comes to "Star Wars" collectibles, we're all about those Black Series and Vintage Collection action figures. They provide cool toys for kids while also delivering detailed, collectible versions of our favorite characters and vehicles from a galaxy far, far away. But every now and then, there's a toy that's just silly and fun, and Hasbro's new Chatter Back Chopper is one of them.
After debuting in the animated "Star Wars Rebels," the new animatronic, electronic Chopper was inspired by the orange astromech droid's recent reappearance in the "Star Wars" series "Ahsoka" on Disney+. Standing around 7.5 inches tall, when Chopper is powered on, he reacts to talking, sounds, and music by chattering and moving with more than 40 sound and movement combinations. Chatter Back Chopper was actually recently nominated for Action Figure of the Year at the Toy of the Year Awards,...

Striking Writers Guild of America members expressed both tempered optimism and wariness Wednesday in response to the news that the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers had reached out to restart talks amid stalled contract negotiations.
“I hope they’re serious, I hope that they are coming to this with a much more open mind than they had last time,” said three-time WGA negotiating committee co-chair Billy Ray (Captain Phillips), who is not playing that role this year. “I can tell you if they are, a deal will be made.”
Former WGA West president Howard Rodman added in a written statement: “One hopes that the AMPTP may at long last grasp that the cost of negotiating a fair deal is less than the cost of an ongoing strike. But Friday’s conversation is, quite simply, a single and very preliminary step.”

TriStar Pictures has acquired Spyglass Media Group‘s “Thanksgiving,” a full-length slasher film inspired by the fake trailer from Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez’s double feature “Grindhouse,” according to an insider with knowledge of the project.
Roth is attached to direct the horror thriller film. “Thanksgiving” is co-written by Roth and Jeff Rendell, with Roger Birnbaum, Roth and Rendell producing.
Chatter has existed about turning the jokey trailer into an actual movie, with Roth having written a screenplay over a dozen years ago. Fantasy became fact when Spyglass stepped in late last year to finance the picture, with shooting to begin in Toronto next month.

Chatter before the VMAs said that Fergie would be joining Jack Harlow to perform his “Glamorous”-sampling No. 1 hit “First Class,” and that’s exactly what happened on the stage of the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey on Sunday night.
Harlow started off with “First Class,” continuing his self-deprecating video appearances: He appeared in “What’s Poppin” as a short-order cook, on “Saturday Night Live” as a custodian, and tonight he appeared as an airline steward, high-fiving or walking past Avril Lavigne, Becky G and of course his pal Lil Nas X before quickly losing that outfit for a glittery black ensemble and a red-carpet scene. He quickly joined Fergie as the song transformed into “Glamorous.”
