Kenny Nguyen of ThreeSixtyEight has signed up to Executive Produce drama film Scent Of The Delta. The film is a 2020 Sundance Film Institute script semifinalist, written by Thuc Doan Nguyen and directed by Adele Pham (Nailed It). The film addresses Vietnamese culture and growing up in the American South in the 1980s.
Shooting begins in Louisiana in 2023, shooting on film and will be the first English-language drama feature to center Vietnamese American women in three decades (since Oliver Stone’s 1993 war drama Heaven and Earth). Scent of the Delta stars actress Tiffany Pham in the leading role.
The story creation is a team effort on behalf of Nguyen, Adele and Tiffany Pham and follows Carrie (Caroline) Tao Wargo, an American-born child of daughter of an interracial couple. Through the eyes of a woman who is caught between cultures, we come to see New Orleans, a land of rebirth on the brink of renewal and reinvention.

I first came across Thuc Nguyen and Nanea Taylor on Twitter, and after reading up on what they’ve been up to as of late, I was eager to speak to this screenwriting team who are working hard to make a name for themselves and get their script, The Stroke After Midnight, into the right hands so that it can become actualized on screen. The thing that immediately struck me about my conversation with Taylor and Nguyen is that within mere minutes of us chatting, I felt like I was speaking to two old friends that I had known for ages. Thoughtful, fiercely intelligent, and deeply passionate about change in an industry that often overlooks the stories they want to tell and the work they are doing, I feel confident in saying that both Nguyen and Taylor represent the future of the horror genre (and their script for The Stroke...

RespectAbility will have a heavy presence at Sundance this year, with a lineup of virtual panels and discussions, all on digital Main Street.
The disability advocacy group is presenting five conversations under the umbrella title the Accessibility & Inclusion Lab; two of the events are in collaboration with Film Independent.
A goal is to encourage authentic representation of disabled people on screen, and to help change how audiences view people with disabilities. Another goal is to give filmmakers the tools to make films more accessible, both for disabled crew members and for audiences.
According to Nielsen, the disability market influences more than a trillion dollars in disposable income. However, with one-in-five people in the U.S. having a disability, there is a startling lack of representation – just 2.3% of characters in the 100 top-grossing films of 2019 and 8% in family films.

It started with a hashtag. This summer as nationwide calls for racial and social justice hit a fever pitch, Thuc Nguyen, founder of The Bitch Pack, and Cheryl L. Bedford, founder of Women of Color Unite, teamed on a new mentorship concept to help pump Hollywood’s diversity pipeline.
#StartWith8Hollywood began as a social media campaign that has since turned into a grassroots diversity, equity and inclusion program, based on a simple premise: established industry professionals pledge to give time and insight to eight women of color to help them further their careers.

One of the most heartening aspects of writing about women and film - and there are times when it is far from heartening - is discovering and conspiring with allies to the cause. By all accounts, the number of people talking about or even aware of feminist issues in the industry has increased dramatically in the past few years alone. This can only be a good thing. It can be hard to figure out proactive solutions to a problem as endemic as Hollywood sexism. But many of the newest voices on the scene are decidedly activist in nature, seeing little point in their efforts unless they point towards tangible results. One such example is Thuc Nguyen and her brainchild, The Bitch Pack. A group dedicated to promoting female-driven screenplays, they have an increasingly vocal online presence, exemplified by a Twitter feed filled with both general feminist inspiration and endless specific...
