Jim Carrey, clad in a handlebar mustache and aviator goggles, goes head-to-head with Sega character Sonic as Dr. Robotnik in the latest trailer for “Sonic the Hedgehog.” With his animated acting style and comedic chops, the actor breathes life into the super-villain as he wreaks havoc on the town, the hedgehog and his own henchmen.
Based on the Sega video game franchise, the film follows Sonic as he attempts to understand life on Earth alongside his new friend Tom Wachowski (James Marsden). The duo is forced to work together in order to thwart the evil Robotnik’s (Carrey) plan to trap Sonic and use his powers for world domination. Ben Schwartz lends his voice as Sonic. Neal McDonough, Adam Pally, Tika Sumpter and Natasha Rothwell also star in the film.
Also featured in the commercial are athletes Michael Thomas, Allyson Felix, Christian McCaffrey and Kyle Busch, who all name Sonic the Hedgehog...

Sonic the Hedgehog gets a digital makeover in the new trailer for the film based on the hit Sega videogame series.
The live-action film, originally set for release on Nov. 8, was pushed back three months to Feb. 14, 2020, after online outcry over the look of the title character in the first trailer for the film that dropped last spring. Fans of the video game were highly critical of the speedy blue hedgehog’s fur, his eyes and most notably his human-looking teeth — which seem much less distracting in the new footage.
The new trailer for “Sonic the Hedgehog” offers more details about the plot, in which Sonic, the world’s speediest hedgehog (voiced by Ben Schwartz), and his new best human friend Tom (James Marsden) team up to defend the planet from the mustachioed, latte-loving evil genius Dr. Robotnik (Jim Carrey) and his plans for world domination.

Sony Pictures Entertainment announced this week that they will be joining forces with Japanese studio Marza Animation Planet to produce a new CGI/live-action Sonic the Hedgehog film based on the famous mascot.
First launched as the original companion game for Sega Genesis in 1991, the character quickly became the mascot for Sega, going on to solidify the company as a leading console developer throughout the 16-bit era of the early 1990s. The character has become the face of a $1 billion franchise and has spread to other mediums that include the long-running comic book series first launched in 1992 as well as multiple animated television series.
“There are limitless stories to tell with a character like Sonic the Hedgehog, and a built-in international fan base. Along with our wonderful creative partners at Marza, we’re looking to capture everything that generations of fans know and love about Sonic while also growing his audience wider than ever before,...
