It was Goossens who re-orchestrated Handel's "Messiah" for full modern orchestra at the request of conductor Sir Thomas Beecham, for Beecham's once-infamous, but now highly enjoyed 1959 stereo recording.
Goossens composed about seventy pieces, including two operas ("Judith" and "Don Juan de Manara"), an oratorio, concertos, symphonic works, pieces for piano, chamber ensembles, and voice.
