In honor of Supernatural's 200th episode, EW took a quick trip down the road so far. And by quick, we mean that we ranked every episode of Supernatural ever. From Sam and Dean's first battle against the Woman in White to Sam's recent rescue of Demon Dean, we left nothing out, and we're pretty sure it was just as difficult as that one time that Sam and Dean stopped the apocalypse. If you're looking for our Top 40 picks, check out gallery No. 1, and for our Worst 10, head here. For everything in between, scroll down, relive the memories (and...

The road so far …
It wasn’t exactly easy for genre television in 2005. Well, it’s really never been easy for genre television ever in the history of television, but in 2005, a deluge of genre shows premiered and almost all of them had fallen prey to the swift axe of the television gods by the next year. Start by thinking about television now. It’s a fruitful time for horror and science fiction and fantasy. There are a multitude of genre shows, running the gamut from The Walking Dead, Game of Thrones, to True Blood and The Vampire Diaries. They’re all massive hits.
Now, think of all of the shows that premiered around that time in 2005. There was Surface, and that was cancelled after ten episodes by NBC. Invasion, a well-regarded show written by Shaun Cassidy (who created one of my favorite shows, American Gothic) and that was cancelled...

Now that Bloodlines is off the table, Supernatural is hunting for new spin-off ideas. Here are a few suggestions...
Feature
Warning: contains spoilers for Supernatural season nine.
A few weeks ago, Den of Geek reviewed the backdoor pilot for a potential Supernatural spin-off, Bloodlines. We were, shall we say, unimpressed, and it seems that opinion was shared by – well, everybody. In an astounding and almost unprecedented turn of events, the Supernatural fandom was united in its opinion: the spin-off was utterly lacklustre, mostly because it had very little to do with its parent show. In the days since the review was written, we received an onslaught of comments agreeing with this preliminary evaluation of Bloodlines.
It’s since been announced the CW will not be going ahead with the spin-off, quite possibly causing the fandom to breathe a collective sigh of relief. But, despite the seemingly ubiquitous dislike for this backdoor pilot,...

Supernatural focused on Castiel this week. A scruffy, tired, hungry human Castiel without any of his superpowers.
What was the best scene in "I'm No Angel?" What was it like to see Castiel in this kind of state? What about the reapers for hire? The Round Table team of Carissa Pavlica, Sean McKenna and Alice (from Winchester Family Business) are back with their analysis of the latest Season 9 episode.
Jump in and join the debate!
-------------------------------------------
What was your favorite scene from the episode?
Carissa: Watching Castiel have sex as a human. Yes, because he's hot. I just wish he had been having it with a real woman rather than a snake.
Alice: Surprisingly, it was the scene with Castiel and the woman with the sick husband in the church. It’s so fascinating, isn’t it, that a former angel gets a unwavering lesson about faith from a human woman with a sick husband.

Supernatural, Season 8, Episode 17: “Goodbye Stranger”
Written by Robbie Thompson
Directed by Thomas J. Wright
Airs Wednesdays at 9pm (Et) on CW
Since Kevin managed to finally decipher his half of the demon tablet, along with several other factors, the existence of an angel tablet, as revealed by Samandriel to Crowley, has remained a backburner piece of information, especially since the Winchesters continue to remain unaware of its existence. Its importance, however, has not been diminished as a result, and it was inconceivable to imagine that Crowley was not searching for it with fervour, especially since he has lost possession of both Kevin and the demon tablet. The presence of, and search for, the angel tablet thus roared back to the front of the line in this week’s episode, in a solid episode that brought back many key recurring players, and...

Hey folks! Like Supernatural after a severe two and a half year slump, I. Am. Back. So first, I’d like to thank Arik for doing the spectacular job of guarding my mantle. Secondly, since I missed last week’s discussion thread, obviously, a shoutout to Dean’s minor “gay thing” crisis. It was awesome to see Dean flushing under the guy’s attention.
We open with a montage of Kevin in his quest to translate their half of the Demon Tablet. After a month or so of working diligently and existing on the standard diet of Aspirin and Caffeine, he somehow manages to complete the task... and collapses with a nose bleed. Holy Crap!
Last week, the Winchesters found the Men Of Letters Head Quarters (Mol-hq) and went about moving in. This week, Dean finishes adding the final touches to his room. It seems that he has emptied the...

Seeing Felicia Day again earlier this season on "Supernatural" was a real treat - and obviously the show's powers-that-be agree as she'll be returning a bit later this year.
Per TVLine, Ms. Day has booked a third visit to The CW’s "Supernatural." Her character, Charlie Bradbury, previously got caught up in Sam and Dean’s battle with Dick Roman and the Leviathans and then was stumbled upon by them inside a LARPing community. The third time around she will bring a case To the Winchester brothers during the latter part of Season 8.

For whatever reason -- be it the writing, or the fans, or the chemistry -- "Supernatural" has not had the best of luck with female characters. It's very rare that women in the Winchester world win over the audience, and it's even more rare that they survive beyond one episode. Charlie, the delightfully geeky, courageous lesbian who we first met last season, is an exception to that rule.
She's almost universally beloved, which is largely due to Felicia Day's enthusiasm and commitment to the role, and her unparalleled understanding of female fans of genre TV.
When we last saw her, Charlie was on the run from the Leviathans after helping the Winchesters hack into Dick Roman's computer and save the day.
In tonight's new episode, "Larp and the Real Girl," Sam and Dean happen upon her once again while investigating a series of strange deaths, as they do.

Felicia Day returns to Supernatural Wednesday for one of the show's more geek-tastic episodes, "Larp and the Real Girl." Proving Supernatural saves its best movie puns for the actress, Day first made the Whedonverse collide with the Winchesters last season in "The Girl with the Dungeons and Dragons Tattoo," playing Charlie Bradbury, the I.T. genius who helps Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean (Jensen Ackles) get dirt on leviathan leader Dick Roman.

Supernatural is about to witness the dawning of a brand new (Felicia) day.
On this Wednesday’s episode (The CW, 9/8c), the Winchesters investigate two mysterious deaths among a community of LARPers (live action role players, for the uninitiated). When they arrive at the camp, it’s not a demon they find right off the bat, but an unexpected old friend in the form of Charlie, played by returning guest star/geek goddess Felicia Day. It seems the hacker extraordinaire has found her oasis as the Queen of Moondoor.

Felicia Day is returning to "Supernatural" in the January 23 episode, entitled "Larp and the Real Girl," and that can only mean good things for fans. Good things like Jensen Ackles dressed up in medieval garb.
When Sam and Dean investigate the mysterious deaths of two big-time geeks who were into live action role-playing, they're pretty psyched to discover that they've already got an ally on the inside. Charlie, who helped them out during their epic battle against Dick Roman last season, is Queen of the LARPers.
No, seriously. She's got a crown and everything.
The episode also reunites Dean with one of his favorite supernatural foes: the fairy. The boys learn that a fairy (Tiffany Dupont) is responsible for the tragedies in the LARPing community, but she's not harming people of her own free will. She's got a master, and unless they find the puppeteer, there are bound to be more deaths.

Supernatural, Season 8, Episode 7: “A Little Slice of Kevin”
Written by Eugenie Ross-Leming and Brad Buckner
Directed by Charles Robert Carmer
Airs Wednesdays at 9pm (Et) on CW
One of the burning questions that emerged from the premiere of Supernatural’s eighth season is what happened to Castiel. After he and Dean were both kicked to Purgatory following the killing of Dick Roman, only Dean seemed to make it out, with the help of a new vampire ally rather than his trusted sidekick. Optimistic watchers of the show were sure that it was only a matter of time before Castiel returned, and their confidence is rewarded this week, as the trenchcoat-clad “angel of the lord” made his first post-purgatory appearance in a wonderfully gripping episode that also brought back Crowley and Kevin Tran and his mother, making major strides in a few primary storylines while setting up an interesting new...

Supernatural, Season 8, Episode 6: “Southern Comfort”
Written by Adam Glass
Directed by Tim Andrew
Airs Wednesdays at 9pm (Et) on CW
The universe of hunters that Supernatural has created was certainly an impressive one, with a slew of allies helping Dean and Sam with varying degrees of capability, and even the inexperienced ones such as Jo Harvelle making major contributions. As the years have worn on, however, the various battles have taken their toll, with Bobby being the latest casualty of Dick Roman and the leviathans in season 7. The question of who shall replace the fallen soldiers is one that has yet to be asked, despite its importance, and it is this issue that the show begins to tackle this week, leading to a humanising of a minor supporting player in the process as well as tackling the episode’s larger ideas of legacies and surrogates.

Here's some fun casting news for Supernatural fans: Felicia Day will be returning as the adorable hacker Charlie in an upcoming season 8 episode.
Day tweeted the news today, saying: "You guessed right!!! What better place to be on Halloween than on the set of #Supernatural? Charlie’s back! :)"
Based on the shooting schedule, it appears that Charlie will resurface in episode 8.11, which, if you'll recall, will focus on LARPing (a fitting episode for the geeky - but adorable - Charlie to appear in). We first met the Roman Enterprises hacker in the season 7 episode "The Girl with the Dungeons and Dragons Tattoo". At that time, Dick Roman had approached Charlie about breaking into a hard drive he had procured from Frank Devereux. Fortunately for Charlie, the Winchesters managed to get her on their side and saved her when a sting operation inside Roman Enterprises went badly. When we last saw her,...

Supernatural Season 8 kicked off last night with Sam and Dean reuniting after a year apart in "We Need to Talk About Kevin." While Dean was fighting his way through Purgatory, Sam was living a normal life - with a girl and a dog.
Last week, TV Fanatic headed to Vancouver (trip provided by Warner Bros TV) to visit the Supernatural set and get the scoop on the upcoming season from Jensen Ackles, Jared Padalecki and Misha Collins.
At the end of a very long day, Padalecki sat down with a beer in hand to talk with us.
The brothers being separated is nothing new to Supernatural, but this time Sam, left all alone, decided to leave the hunter life behind. Jared explains why:
"I think Sam in this season is different than Sam in other seasons where Dean was either in hell or where Sam was in hell. Usually when they’ve been split up,...

Supernatural 8×01: We Need To Talk About Kevin
Stars: Jared Padalecki, Jensen Ackles, Misha Collins, Mark Sheppard, Osric Chau | Written by Eric Kripke, Jeremy Carver | Directed by Robert Singer
**Spoilers Lie Beyond Here**
The road so far that Sam and Dean Winchester drive is a long and twisted one. They’ve been through hell and back and derive very little joy from their day-to-day life. Such is the life of the hunter. They’ve lost many lives along this journey and many times, died themselves. I love the mythology of the show as it weaves in and out of the standalone stories. It’s strong storytelling that’s evolved over the course of these eight seasons. Now, this season represents of changing of the guard from previous showrunner Sera Gamble to Jeremy Carver, another longtime writer for Supernatural. If you’re a Supernatural fan and you don’t already know the name Osric Chau, you will in a few weeks. The young actor burst on the scene at the end of the show’s seventh season as the prophet in advanced placement, Kevin Tran. The character’s three-episode story arc carries over into season eight, which premieres on The CW tonight at 9 Pm Et, where the highly intelligent (and endearingly nervous) Kevin Tran will prove to be an important piece of the equation this season.
FEARnet recently sat down with the actor to discuss Kevin Tran’s important role in Supernatural, closing the gates of Hell, and becoming the latest Wu-Tang Clan member.
Fearnet: I have to ask you this first: After missing that big test and everything, do you think Kevin Tran is still in advanced placement?

The big question going into the new season of Supernatural — one of many — is how the brothers’ relationship will be effected by Dean’s return from Purgatory. (Did Sam abandon Dean? Is Dean damaged again — like after Hell?) The sneak peek scene released a few days ago also called into question what happened while Cas and Dean were down below that resulted in Cas not making it out of Purgatory at the same time as Dean.
Clearly, there are lots of questions, and we’ve got some teases from stars Jensen Ackles, Jared Padalecki, and Misha Collins on set in Vancouver.

Here we go, "Supernatural" fans! It's almost time for the Oct. 3 premiere of Season 8. (Remember when we were afraid Season 2 wouldn't get picked up? Oh, we were so young then.) Thanks to Twitter, we've learned that today (Thursday, Sept. 13) is actually the seventh anniversary of the "Supernatural" pilot episode premiere, so it's only fitting that today, The CW finally released photos from the upcoming episode, "We Need To Talk About Kevin."
Check out all the pics below. In the meantime, here are five things we do know about the premiere episode, though most of the details are, of course, being kept under wraps.
1. Dean returns from Purgatory with the devil on his back a vampire named Benny, played by Ty Olsson. The vampire helped Dean escape from Limbo, but not without a price. "That character doesn't just go away. [He] will stick around and of course cause problems," Jensen Ackles told us.

Looking forward to the return of Supernatural? The eighth season kicks off on October 3rd and we have the trailer from the upcoming season premiere episode.
Twenty-seven years ago, Sam Winchester (Jared Padalecki) and Dean Winchester (Jensen Ackles) lost their mother to a mysterious and demonic supernatural force. Subsequently, their father John (Jeffrey Dean Morgan, “Watchmen”) raised them to be soldiers. He taught them about the paranormal evil that lives in the dark corners and on the back roads of America…and he taught them how to kill it.
Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean (Jensen Ackles) have spent the last seven years battling the things that go bump in the night. Over the years, with the help of both fallen-angel, Castiel (Misha Collins, “24″), and the King of Hell, Crowley (Mark A. Sheppard), the Winchesters have straddled the line between good and evil. I don't know about the rest of you Supernatural fans, but I'm very excited about the upcoming eighth season. Season 7 ended with the Winchester brothers in a familar, and separated, state. Sam was left back on earth all alone after his brother, Castiel and Kevin had disappeared (and after Bobby's ghost had - presumably - moved on). Meanwhile, Dean and Castiel were trapped in Purgatory after having killed Dick Roman (or, more specifically, the final seconds had Dean all alone in Purgatory after Castiel disappeared).
When Supernatural returns in early October, the Winchesters will be reunited quickly. Time will have passed while they were apart, but we'll learn what they were up to through the use of flashbacks over several episodes. Sam got out of the hunting life and settled down with a girlfriend, while Dean managed to not only survive Purgatory, but escaped with the help of a new...

A fan-favorite writer from Seasons 3-5 — he was responsible for such memorable episodes as “A Very Supernatural Christmas,” “In the Beginning,” “Mystery Spot” and “Changing Channels” before leaving to executive produce Syfy’s Being Human — Carver says he had to do “a little bit of catching up” on Dean and Sam’s adventures once he decided to return to the CW series.

*spoiler Alert Director: Robert Singer. Writer: Sera Gamble. Some supernaturally charged television series can age very well like cheese, and others should be discarded when it is starting to look moldy. With how mismanaged "Survival of the Fittest" went in showing who will live and who will die, maybe the boys should consider calling it quits. With Bobby Singer finally moving on, and Dean tossed into Purgatory, just how Sam will cope may be the focus of next season. Castiel was with Dean when they confronted Dick Roman, and before dying, the Leviathan sent them on a one way trip back to Purgatory! The lone angel may not be able to protect a single Winchester forever. At least the old Cas that viewers grew to love is back. His trademark gravelly voice was sorely missed. Even his counterpart, the demonic Crowley, shows he has always been heard but not seen.

"Supernatural" has one of the most active online fanbases of any show we cover on Zap2it, so we've come to expect a wide range of opinions after any given episode. Now that Season 7 is over, we thought we'd take a look at the 23 episodes and discuss some thoughts on Sera Gamble's last season as showrunner. Please note that this article represents one fan's opinion, and we expect plenty of conflicting views. Discussion is welcome (and encouraged!) in the comments section below -- just make sure to keep it classy!
Castiel's Exit: The season began on a controversial note, with Misha Collins' role being reduced to that of a special guest star after two seasons as a series regular. Supernatural Season 7 Roundtable Review: A Look Back and a Look Forward
How about that Supernatural cliffhanger? With Dean now stuck in Purgatory, Sam all alone on earth, and the fans stuck with over four months until the season 8 premiere, we all have a lot of time to digest what happened this past season and look ahead to the next one.
Back in December, I reached out to some friends and fellow writers in the Supernatural fandom to share their thoughts up until the midseason point. The exercise went so well that we've all come together again to share our thoughts on the season as a whole. Participating in this roundtable review are: myself, Laura Prudom from HuffPost TV, Vinnie from Winchester Brothers, Danielle Turchiano from Possible By Pop Culture, Alice Jester from Winchester Family Business, Tina Charles from TV Guide, and Nikki Novak from Winchester Daily. What struck me as interesting,...

Before we begin, let us take a minute, or ten, to pay homage to the Supernatural finale anthem “Carry on My Wayward Son”.
Okay… here we go. *deep breath*
Last week, the brothers collected the blood of an Alpha Vampire, bringing the Levi weapon down to the last remaining ingredients – bone of a righteous mortal and Crowley’s blood. Meanwhile, Bobby managed to possess a maid and escape with his flask, and Dick Roman trapped Crowley under a Devil’s Trap.
We return where we left off, with Crowley and Dick “negotiating like proper psychopaths.” Dick, initially, tries patronizing Crowley, but Crowley tells him to cut it out. He knows that Dick knows about the weapon and also that Crowley’s blood is integral to it. And the fact that Dick hasn’t killed him yet means that he has something up his sleeve.
So Dick lays it on him.

Supernatural Review, Season 7, Episode 23: “Survival of the Fittest”
Written by Sera Gamble
Directed by Robert Singer
Airs Fridays at 9pm (Et) on the CW
This week, on Supernatural: Cas collects honey, the guys go nun shopping, and the Impala makes an impression
After several weeks of solid, interesting episodes, episodes that seemed to be moving various pieces into precise positions, Supernatural looked to be set up for a strong, entertaining finale. As it begins, fans’ excitement will grow as the well edited recap skips through the season’s highlights, of course set to “Carry On Wayward Son”, as the season finale recaps have all been since season two.** Unfortunately, by the time the finale ends, though many will undoubtedly enjoy it, the more scrutinizing will be disappointed at the wasted potential and sheer messiness of not only this episode, but the major arcs of the final third of the season as well.

It’s been a tumultuous seventh season for the Winchester brothers on Supernatural. If you haven’t checked it out yet, turn away because there will be Spoilers.
Castiel became a demigod, unleashed the Leviathans and then vanished when the Winchesters needed him to undo the damage he caused. Sam’s head remained hellishly damaged so he was seeing visions of Lucifer at every turn. Then, Bobby went up against the head Leviathan, which was posing as Dick Roman, in order to secure the Leviathans’ ultimate plan. It resulted in the loss of Sam and Dean’s surrogate father. Bobby was dead. Castiel was gone.
Then, both of Supernatural’s supporting characters came back, but not necessarily for the good of the Winchesters or mankind. Castiel lost his memory, but regained it just in time to fix Sam’s brain by shifting the damaged parts over to his own angelic mind.

Wait. What?
It's hard not to be left speechless by the last moments of the Supernatural finale. It was such a drastic veering in another direction entirely, not only was I surprised, but I'm not sure what to make of it or what it means for the future of season eight.
For the most part the episode was pretty straightforward in its endeavors of finally trying to end Dick Roman's master plan. Yes, the silent but deadly fattening up of the human race for Leviathan for consumption found its end. Right?
Apparently a grand scheme is only as good as its leader and without someone putting additives into creamer and killing off the skinny people, the black goo is now left to squiggle around aimlessly.
I certainly appreciated the idea surrounding the baddies from Purgatory, after all, what's scarier than something you not only can't kill, but have no...

When our favorite shows go off the air for the summer, it's like being caught in Limbo, counting down the months until we can see the characters make their next move. "Supernatural" gave that a more literal twist in Friday's Season 7 finale. Dean finally figured out how to kill Dick Roman, the head monster in charge -- but when Dick exploded, he took Dean and Castiel with him.
To Purgatory. Where monsters go when they die. To battle each other for all of eternity. It's not exactly a top 10 vacation spot.
Dean's already been to Hell, but Purgatory presents a whole new set of problems. He's in a different place, mentally, than he was when he went to Hell -- this season, we've seen a much more tired, broken-down incarnation of Dean, and his will to fight has been waning. Until this point, revenge has been a primary motivator for him.

Supernatural Season Finale Recap: Cut Off the Head and the Cliffhanger Will Follow
Hey, Supernatural, thanks for giving us one heck of a cliffhanger. The last time I was this freaked out was the season 3 finale when Dean was screaming while being strung up in Hell. Sure, we've been put in nearly the same position this time around, but I have no idea how they're going to work their way out of this one. Will Dean be gripped tight and raised from Purgatory by an angel? Or is the guy all on his own?
Contract Negotiations
Let's go back to the beginning, where Dick and Crowley are trying to figure out a way to divide up the human race over a few glasses of scotch. The newly ensnared Crowley realizes that Dick has decoded the ancient tablet and knows about the Winchesters' plan. So what is Dick to do? He...

Yesterday, Jensen Ackles gave me what I thought was a little tease about the season finale of Supernatural while on the red carpet at the CW Upfronts. (Yes, that was a humblebrag.) I shared it with y’all in Spoiler Room this afternoon. To recap, he said: “In previous season, Dean found himself in hell and we had to figure out how he was going to get back from hell next season. This is something like that. It’s going to be interesting how we get back from that.”
Well, I can say a lot of wonderful things about that guy — and I have.

1. Are Sam and Dean gathering up the "fallen" blood too quickly or in the right amount of time?

Carla: Were they collecting blood from fallen people? I must have missed that. I thought one ingredients was from a "Fallen Angel," which was Cas. And, the rest was from other creatures. An angel, an alpha, a demon of some special sort (Crowley), and any others? They...

Director: Guy Bee. Writer: Andrew Dabb and Daniel Loflin. The stakes are high, and nearly everyone in Heaven and Hell is invested in seeing the Leviathans fall in "Supernatural’s" episode, “There Will Be Blood.” While those particular forces are doing nothing (to put themselves in danger), the Winchesters are doing everything. The brothers have a recipe to create a weapon that can kill the Old Ones, as they were once called. That also includes summoning up some old familiar faces from the roster and asking for a favour or two. Crowley (Mark Sheppard) makes for a great return appearance, and Dick Roman (James Patrick Stuart) finally shines as the calculating villain that he is. In the opening act, he gives audiences a knowing look by breaking the fourth wall. Very rarely will this technique be praised, and it's a beautiful touch by director Guy Bee, before the series title splashes on screen.

Supernatural Preview: Misha Collins Teases the Season Finale
The season 7 finale of Supernatural is scheduled to air this week. Will the Winchesters successfully manage to defeat the Leviathans? Their first hurdle is Crowley, who was summoned and trapped by Dick Roman at the end of the penultimate episode. This is a big problem because Sam and Dean need Crowley's blood to complete the weapon they need to defeat Dick. All the pieces are there, except Crowley's blood (as you can see in this sneak peek for the episode). Will Dick convince Crowley to sabotage the Winchesters' plan?
The other big problem is Castiel, who disappeared two episodes ago after being brought out of his comatose state. Taking on Sam's mental problems has turned Castiel into a "pacifist", Misha Collins explains. And he's not keen on going to battle again. But a clip from the producer's preview reveals that his new...

Last week, amidst storms and lightning and The Angels and Demon drama, we were introduced to a stereotypical overachieving Asian-American kid, Kevin, who turned out to be the new prophet and the only one who could translate The Word of God.
The Word revealed that the ultimate weapon to kill a Leviathan is “a bone of a righteous mortal, washed in the bloods of the three fallen – A fallen angel, King of fallen humanity, i.e. King of Hell i.e. Crowley, and father of the fallen beasts i.e. an Alpha monster.”
And after volunteering his blood for that of the fallen angel, semi-crazy Castiel took off. He’s currently on a tour, with Meg, visiting dog tracks and apiaries around the world.

I’m not at all surprised to find the penultimate episode of Supernatural‘s seventh season to be just as maddening as the ones that preceded it. I had hopes this season could bring itself together in a delightful fashion, but there was just no way that was going to happen, not while still under the command of Sera Gamble. If there’s one person I can put all the blame on for this sucky season it’s her. Jensen Ackles, Jared Padalecki, Jim Beaver, and Misha Collins have all done their best to make the material they’re given work. It’s not their faults Gamble has steered this storyline into such mediocrity, abusing the mythology originally set up by Eric Kripke when he was at the helm. What makes it all worse is the show has presented us with some pleasing concepts, its just the execution of those concepts has been near dreadful.
