Robert Smith of The Cure hopped on a new remix of “Pretty Boy,” a single that’s set to appear on the upcoming album from Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds.
“Pretty Boy” features ex-Smiths member Johnny Marr’s signature jangly guitar, so it’s not too surprising that a fellow ’80s alt-rocker like Smith would be down to put his own spin on the track. His new version doesn’t change that much, but it really leans into that more dreamy side, cranking up the reverb and adding heavier drums courtesy of The Cure’s own Jason Cooper. “You got the dreams of children/ You gotcha eyes of gold/ I hope you live to see them/ Before you get too old,” Gallagher sings, his voice echoing like he’s in a massive cave.
“I was surprised and delighted when Noel asked me to remix this gorgeous song,” Smith wrote in a statement.

Since forming more than four decades ago, the Cure’s personal lyrics, dreamlike compositions and gothy image helped them establish a dedicated, cult-like fanbase. Despite these clear contributions to rock — not to mention gold and platinum records on both side of the Atlantic and megahits like “Lovesong” and “The Love Cats” — it’s taken 15 years and one failed bid in 2012 for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame to recognize them with an induction.

At 7:30 a.m. on Thursday morning, former Cure drummer-keyboardist Lol Tolhurst felt his wife tapping him on the shoulder. “She told me she had a big surprise to tell me,” he says. “I thought maybe she was pregnant and I’d get to be a father again. But then she told me that the Cure had been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Ever since then the phone has been going off. It’s been a bit of a surreal morning.”

The rumors have been flying around for a few months now, but as of last week the NeoGeo X handheld console has been confirmed for worldwide release. Blaze, who's produced several Genesis (MegaDrive) handhelds, is overseeing production under Snk's license.
Following the 20th anniversary of the ground breaking Neogeo Aes console, the NeoGeo X will be available in Q2 of 2012 and will come pre-loaded with over 20 classic NeoGeo titles including MetalSlug, The King of Fighters and Fatal Fury.
"The Neogeo console has always been a personal favorite of mine and I am delighted to be involved with the development of this new handheld console," said Jason Cooper of Blaze. “We hope to re-ignite the excitement many of us felt twenty one years ago, in a more affordable manner, to a much wider audience."
On top of all the great games the new handheld will come with, it also features an...

I do love the episode when they bring back my favorite bad guys. And Bret Stiles (Malcolm McDowell) has been away from this show for far too long. I also love that no one is safe from Stiles' creepy brand of cold-reading and insight, I just wish he'd had more time to call Lisbon on her failings a little more thoroughly. Anti-cult activist Gabriel Meadows is dead and his laptop is missing. And before Lisbon (Robin Tunney) can hardly get a look at the crime scene, Jane (Simon Baker) is rooting out a spy in their ranks. Meadows was investigating Visualize, the cult lead by our manipulatively wonderful Bret Stiles while trying to get his sister out. But someone has tampered with the crime scene and one of the uniform cops turns out to be a Visualize minion. Of course, Stiles shows up at Cbi to be helpful and get...

Could Bret Stiles be Red John? Or just one giant red herring? "His Thoughts Were Red Thoughts" had Patrick Jane and his favorite cult leader circling one another yet again and what fun it was.
Stiles and Jane took shots at one another like a couple of prize fighters. Stiles certainly made it his business to know a lot about Patrick Jane. He knew that Jane had used Red John to take down the San Joaquin killer. He knew Rosalind was under protective custody with the FBI and, of course, he knew that Jane had shot a man he had claimed was Red John.
Stiles poked and prodded at Jane mercilessly, even comparing him to the Sorcerer's Apprentice who had woken up a power he could not control. On that count he might just be right.
He even took a shot at Lisbon and tried to turn her against Jane.

Although it deals with the hot-button topics of religion and suicide, there’s never a sense that From Within is aiming for gratuitous provocation, or wearing its issues on its sleeves. It’s a straightforward, back-to-basics horror drama that looks great—not surprising given that it was directed by the gifted cinematographer Phedon Papamichael. Yet he doesn’t let the imagery overwhelm the movie either, employing an eye-catching naturalistic palette that gracefully segues into menacing mood. Papamichael stated at the film’s Tribeca Film Festival premiere that horror isn’t necessarily his thing, but he proves here that he sure can direct the heck out of a scare setpiece.
Indeed, the movie starts off with a literal bang, as a young man shoots himself on the outskirts of the village of Grovetown, and the Gothed-out Natalie (Rumer Willis, daughter of you-know-who, in a brief but vivid turn), who was with him at that moment,...
