“Always sad to say goodbye.” So wrote Grand Hotel series regular Lincoln Younes to begin a series of tweets he posted after news hit today that the freshman ABC drama series was canceled.
The Australian actor played Danny Garibaldi, a handsome, charming young man who recently started working as a waiter at the family-owned Riviera Grand Hotel in Miami Beach. He strikes up a romantic interest with Alicia Mendoza (Denyse Tontz), daughter of the hotel’s owner (Demián Bichir).
Grand Hotel star Rosalyn Sanchez retweeted a post by a fan of the show who lamented the cancellation, hailing the acting and directing on the ABC drama. “Finally a positive image ~ successful Latin family & business,” the tweet said.

ABC has pulled the plug on “Grand Hotel” after a single season, Variety has confirmed.
Based on the original Spanish series and starring Demian Bichir, Eva Longoria and Roselyn Sanchez, “Grand Hotel” provided an upstairs/downstairs look at the scandals and secrets of both the Mendoza family and the staff that works for them.
The show was written Brian Tanen, who executive produced alongside Longoria and Ben Spector through UnbeliEVAble, as well as Ramon Campos and Teresa Fernandez-Valdes for ABC Studios.
It averaged a modest 0.50 rating in the key 18-49 demographic and around 2.7 million total viewers across its single season. The show struggled to make an impact alongside ABC’s summer roster stacked with unscripted content, coming in below competition series like “Holey Moley,” “Card Sharks” and “To Tell The Truth.”
“Grand Hotel” also starred Denyse Tontz, Bryan Craig, Wendy Raquel Robinson, Lincoln Younes, Shalim Ortiz, Anne Winters, Chris Warren,...

Grand Hotel is closing doors on ABC. The network had opted not to renew the soapy drama for a second season.
ABC’s President of Entertainment Karey Burke hinted at the outcome during TCA in August, pointing to the the soft ratings for the show, starring Demian Bichir and Roselyn Sanchez and executive produced by Eva Longoria.
“We’re going to wait until the end of its run. It’s a show we like a lot,” she said at the time. “It’s a show that I wish the ratings were a bit stronger but we’ll make that decision after its run,” she said.
Written by Brian Tanen based on a Spanish format, Grand Hotel was set against the backdrop of a Miami Beach hotel, centering on the family who owns the business, the staff who run it and the explosive secrets they hide under the perfect exterior.

Day 1 of the Atx Television Festival includes a screening of the pilot episode of ABC’s upcoming new series, Grand Hotel. Following the preview, executive producers Brian Tanen and Ben Spector were joined by some of the cast — Roselyn Sanchez, Lincoln Younes and Arielle Kebbel– to speak on what to expect in season one of a series filled with secrets and scandal.
The show is a remake of the original period series from Spain but flips the typical upstairs/downstairs narrative “in that this is about a Hispanic family achieving the American dream. But it’s not a Hispanic show, said Spector. “It’s a show where the Hispanic family owns the hotel. Everything that the family has built is based on this beautiful place.”
Setting the series in Miami “felt authentic to the place that this would be the family,” added Tanen. “Mostly it’s not a thing, it...
