- Stuart is the eldest out of 4 children, the only boy. Stuart has always been a highly gifted student, graduating at the top of his class both under and post-grad at UCLA. He has written books on Vertebrate Morphology as well as Palentology, teaching both subjects (and more)at universities in Illinois as well as California and lecturing around the world. Stuart began work at Disney in the 1980s, both uncredited and with various biology departments as an animal anatomy consultant, receiving his first "real credit" with the Lion King. His work has grown to include credits not only with Disney, but Pixar, Dreamworks and a myriad of other production companies. He is currently a professor at California State University, San Bernadino. He resides in Riverside, California with his wife and son. - Dr. Stuart Sumida is a paleontologist, his wife Beth is an anthropologist specializing in primates. They named their first son Darwin.
- Started his career in animation as a "favor". He agreed to guest lecture to Disney animators at the request of his childhood friend Charles Solomon.
- When younger, he couldn't draw a stick-figure without using a ruler! Although Stuart's mother is an artist, his talent was definitely science and math, NOT art!.
