- Kerli was born in Estonian small town Elva.
She started with singing in early years. She also studied dancing and piano. In 2002 she got her first recognition by winning the Baltic singing contest Fizz Superstar (Baltic version of Pop Idol (2001)) She lied about her age to enter the contest as the minimum age requirement was 15. At 16 Kerli dropped out of school to pursue her musical career. With the win of the Fizz Superstar contest she gained a contract that was unsuccessful. Estonian media labeled her failure as "Kerli Syndrome".
In 2005 she movie to United States where she signed to Island Def Jam Music Group in 2006. She started to work with producer, songwriter David Maurice and in 2007 she released self-titled EP and in 2008 her debut album "Love Is Dead" that charted in the Billboard 200 at #126 in the summer of 2008.- IMDb Mini Biography By: Serpico Jones - Avant Garde, mystical and magical are just some of the ways her fans describe KERLI. Singer, songwriter, record producer and visual artist, KERLI became Estonia's most successful music export at an early age, eventually signing to Island Records in the US.
Her debut album, "Love Is Dead", (2008) charted on the Billboard 200. The lead single, "Walking on Air," was the iTunes single of the week where it was downloaded over 500,000 times, a record at that time.
Her 2nd album Utopia also charted on Billboard 200. Singles "Army of Love", Zero Gravity", and "The Lucky Ones" entered the top 10 Billboard Hot Dance, two of them peaking at number 1. Additionally a song co-written by KERLI for Utopia, "Skyscraper" was recorded by Demi Lovato and become one of Demi's biggest hits.
In 2013, KERLI performed on Dancing with the Stars; and Vibe called the performance a major milestone in electronic music. In 2016, wishing to express herself without barriers, Kerli decided to go independent and released three singles, Feral Hearts, Blossom, and Diamond Hard, while teaming up with the government of Estonia to art direct a tourism campaign designed to promote the otherworldly nature of the country.
Spending most of her creative time in the deep forests of Estonia, KERLI's evolution as an artist has paralleled her curiosity as a human exploring the relationship between nature, mysticism and technology.
