A fresh #MeToo case has broken in France with 10 actresses accusing director Philippe Loiret of inappropriate behavior in an investigative report carried out by radio and news network France Info.
According to the report released on Tuesday, the accusations are related to the casting process for Loiret’s 2011 feature All Our Desires, when the director was at the peak of his fame in the wake of award-winning box office hit Welcome starring Mélanie Laurent.
The accusations comes amid France’s recent embrace of the #MeToo movement sparked in large part by actress Judith Godrèche’s decision to speak up about her under-age relationship with director Benoît Jacquot, and filing of an official police complaint him for “rape with constraint”. He has denied the charges.

If you’ve had the unnerving pleasure of watching the Turkish hellscape nightmare, Baskin, you’re probably curious about director Can Evrenol’s next film. Rest assured, Housewife is not as intense as Evrenol’s first feature but he can’t resist transforming a story about one woman’s quest for self-help into a cult odyssey into a Lovecraftian dream maze. […]

The title to this story is misleading, as cinematic nightmares can be a very good thing if you’re discussing the works of director Can Evrenol. His 2015 feature Baskin still is a horror-thriller that is referenced with affection and praise on CinemAddicts, and I was more than happy to interview Clémentine Poidatz, the star of [...]

I was an immediate fan of filmmaker Can Evrenol once I saw his previous feature, Baskin, and I’ve been patiently waiting to see what kind of movie madness he would unleash on us next. Thankfully, the wait is nearly over, as his latest film, Housewife, comes home to DVD, VOD, and digital platforms tomorrow, courtesy of Rlje Films.
I recently caught up with Evrenol for a quick chat, and we discussed how he approached the story of Housewife, the similarities between this film and Baskin, and collaborating with the film’s star, Clémentine Poidatz, whose character Holly undergoes quite the transformation throughout the movie.
So great to speak with you today, Can, as I am a big fan of Baskin. I would love to hear about what your approach to this story was at the script level, the influences, and basically what Holly's journey is through this film, because...

"I feel so much better now... I think Bruce cured my feelings." Rlj Entertainment has debuted a new trailer (via Bloody-Disgusting) for a psychological horror thriller titled Housewife, which initially premiered at a number of genre festivals last year. This erotic horror is about a woman who watched her mother kill her sister and father when she was a child. Her dreams remain plagued by that painful memory, and things get even creepier when a celebrity psychic takes a special liking to her. Clémentine Poidatz stars as Holly, and the cast includes David Sakurai, Alicia Kapudag, Defne Halman, and Ali Aksöz. You have to see the footage to try and make some sense of the film, as it gets really freaky and crazy at the end of this trailer. Here's the official Us trailer (+ poster) for Can Evrenol's Housewife, direct from B-d's YouTube: Holly's childhood was a nightmare...

Ahead of the UK premiere of his latest film Housewife at the Horror Channel Frightfest Halloween event today, director Can Evrenol tells us why film is a ‘pervert’s art’, shares his feelings for Fulci and reveals his contribution to Horror Anthology The Field Guide To Evil…
Was it important to make your follow-up film to Baskin in the English language?
I wanted to make the film available for a wider audience and to test myself with a different language movie. I thought it was a fun thing to do.
How do you describe Housewife? What would be your perfect pitch line?
Man, I had this crazy fu*ked-up dream last night! Do you want to see it?
Like Baskin, Housewife shares many similar themes of sexuality, family, social claustrophobia and surreal nightmares. Why are these elements so important to you?
The day I find out why, I would probably...

Taking a journey into the mind to work out past childhood trauma can sometimes make for a pretty run-of-the-mill movie, but Turkish director Can Evrenol managed to make the journey something very out of the ordinary and visually dynamic. “Housewife” follows Holly (Clémentine Poidatz), a woman who is dealing the with the violent death of […]

Recent years have seen a return to giallo, mainly in independent and foreign horror cinema. The genre doesn’t always hold up because it is inherently weird and often nonsensical. For diehard admirers of Fulci and Bava, however, Turkish director Can Evrenol has become an excitingly bizarre voice in cinema. His feature debut, Baskin, blew many a mind two years ago with its hedonistic madness. Evernol returns this year with Housewife, and while it may not reach the levels of incoherent thrills that his first feature achieved, it’s an involving vision of sensory insanity.
As the title suggests, the film centers on the wife of a true crime author, tormented by a traumatic incident in her past. When a long-lost friend convinces her to attend a cult gathering, the group’s charismatic leader—a man who claims to walk through dreams—initiates her into a bizarre mental maze that may undo her.

L'Etrange Festival kicked off this past Wednesday in Paris and will continue on until September 17th. The festival's opening credits have been made available for everyone to have a look at. Familiar names appear through the digital mashup. What fun. Can Evrenol's Housewife just had its world premiere there and received acclalim from French director Xavier Gens. Word from the festival is that Gens found Housewife to be a "a very crazy affair" and later posted on Facebook, "And amazing actress too ! Bravo Clementine Poidatz you rock ! Not an easy part and you embrace it at 1000%. Make me think to Charlotte Gainsbourg in Antichrist. It's a perfect mix of influence from Argento to Von Trier. Bravo!" Still to appear at the festival are...
