If you were a little girl in the '80s, Punky Brewster was probably your idol. After all, her hair was long enough for just-right pigtails and she had the coolest socks.
Though many child stars try to distance themselves from their iconic characters, Soleil Moon Frye still has love for Punky. "I totally embrace it because I love the character, Punky," she tells Parade. "She was spunky and such a fun character to play because she was full of love and life. I still hold her very close to my heart."
Even her kids dig the episodes they watched on YouTube. "They think it's hysterical," she says. "Whenever I'm wearing braids, I'll hear them calling me, 'Punky,' which is really funny."

You may remember Soleil Moon Frye from the popular '80s TV comedy series "Punky Brewster," about a spunky orphan adopted by a lonely old man.
Soleil is no longer the silly, oddly attired kid, but is now an entrepreneur and social media maven with a new parenting book, "Happy Chaos," giving grown-up advice and sharing her personal and professional world.
"Happy Chaos" explains the adventures of motherhood and why accepting messes, mishaps, tears and tantrums will make you and your kids happier. Here is an excerpt:
"I was seven years old when I walked onto the set of 'Punky Brewster,' a show about a little girl who was abandoned by her mother in a grocery store. I think of it now and smile as I imagine them pitching the series. A show about a kid whose parents abandoned her at the tender age of seven... and it's a comedy!

If you grew up in the 1980s, the mere mention of Punky Brewster brings back very distinct memories of childhood days in front of the boob-tube. Love or hate the show, it's an indelible part of that decade. While there's little chance that we'll ever see a Punky Brewster reunion, actress Soleil Moon Frye recently revived her character for a special visit.
Punky Brewster revolves around a precocious little girl who has been abandoned by her mother in Chicago. With only her faithful dog Brandon as a companion, Punky starts living in a vacant apartment in an old building. There, she meets the grumpy landlord, photographer Henry Warnimont (George Gaynes). The two quickly bond and Henry becomes her foster parent and later adopts her. Others in the series include Susie Garrett, Cherie Johnson, T. K. Carter, Ami Foster, and Casey Ellison.
