Our Daily Isa (International Sales Agent) will focus primarily on the sellers of films which are in the festival as well as in the market. However, it will continue as a topic after Cannes and well into 2011. If there are 400+ ISAs, that will take more than one year to cover. Recreation was launched by Ariel Veneziano in Berlin of 2010 where it had a successful market debut at the 2010 Berlin Film Festival, with the Panorama Special opening film Kawasaki's Rose by Academy Award nominated director Jan Hrebejk. Recreation a newly launched international sales company, had a successful market debut at the 2010 Berlin Film Festival, with the Panorama Special opening film Kawasaki's Rose by Academy Award nominated director Jan Hrebejk. Part of Recreation Media, an emerging group of interlinked entertainment companies, Recreation will source its product from a number of content providers at arm’s length, and by entering into alliances with exciting filmmakers, producers and other third party rights holders, building its slate around a few key partnerships.
Recreation’s first partnership of this kind is a multi-picture deal with Menemsha Films, a leading distributor of critically acclaimed films who set a record by representing 5 Academy Award nominated pictures 5 years in a row. Kawasaki's Rose, the first title in the partnership, received 2 prizes for best film at Berlin, each awarded by independent juries for the festival’s Panorama section. It's a wrap! The Martin Gropius Bau is empty and the final pickups follow. This is a work in progress and readers are invited and welcome to contribute. Presales have returned in reaction to the reduced number of finished films on offer over the past two markets. Presales applies across the board from Us to French and even Italian films. English language films are increasingly coming out of the major non English language territories but local product is impacting sales on Us films internationally. Business was quickly wrapped up but it was done with a healthy number of buys reported. Lower prices have become accepted but the market must have product as this event proved.

TORONTO -- Mel Gibson's Icon Prods. has partnered with GreeneStreet Films to buy sales rights for a number of GreeneStreet's films and library titles. Ariel Veneziano, president of GreeneStreet Films International, is moving to Icon, where he will oversee international sales as the president of Icon Entertainment International.
The move provides GreeneStreet with access to Icon's theatrical distribution in Australia and the U.K. and greater buying power in the marketplace. But with Icon's international sales outfit now in the picture, the future of GreeneStreet International appears to be in doubt.
For now, it will continue with its six-person staff, and Veneziano said that there's "definitely the desire to keep GSFI as a separate entity." But with GreeneStreet producing three to four films a year and GreeneStreet International repping six to eight films, including outside acquisitions, the indie company's international sales faces challenges if it is to avoid having to shutter.
"Does GreeneStreet have enough volume to proceed as a stand-alone entity? They need to strategize and diversify," Veneziano said.
