Forget those new live-action "Spider-Man" movies — for my money, the best new Spidey-related material resides in the animated "Spider-Verse" films. They're bright, colorful, inventive, funny, and emotional movies (even if "Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse" is only half a movie). Those films introduced us to Miles Morales, a teen who becomes Spider-Man in an alternate universe. While we're still waiting for the next full-length "Spider-Verse" film, "Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse," we can get more of Miles via a new short film titled "The Spider Within: A Spider-Verse Story."
But this short film isn't your typical action-packed web-slinger story. It's instead a horror-tinged look at Miles' subconscious as he succumbs to the pressures of being Spider-Man. As our own Rafael Motamayor wrote in his review of the short film, "'The Spider Within' stands out by combining that theme with a love of horror and psychological thrillers, delivering a truly spooky short. Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is wowing audiences everywhere and has already become a bigger box office success than its predecessor. The Miles Morales sequel to Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse tells a more epic story that cannot be contained in one film, which is why it ends on a cliffhanger and will be picking up with the follow-up, Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse. However, Sony had one other Spider-Verse story up its sleeve. A short from Sony Animation titled, The Spider Within: A Spider-Verse Story, has just premiered at the Annecy International Film Festival according to Deadline.
The Spider Within: A Spider-Verse Story is a bold look into the mental health of Miles Morales. In signature Spider-Man characterization, Miles has to deal with the normal stress of being a teenager in today’s world prior to the added difficulties of being a superhero on top of that. The short explores...

With the Senate passing a massive $2 trillion stimulus package designed to counter the devastating impact of the coronavirus pandemic, many in Hollywood are wondering how it will help those in the entertainment industry who have recently lost their jobs. In a sneak peek of our upcoming podcast “The Wrap-Up,” TheWrap’s editor-in-chief, Sharon Waxman, spoke with reporter Clara Chan and Cornell Law professor Robert Hockett about what Hollywood can expect to receive from this bailout, if anything. “I don’t think it’s prioritized as an industry,” Hockett said of Hollywood. “But in so far as they have sub-industries that themselves employ substantial numbers of workers and in so far as bailout money might help them to continue making payroll. That, in turn, might spare the public having to continue to send Ubi (universal basic income) type checks to employees. Then there might actually be a fairly compelling basis for at least some bailout money.

Delta Airlines will restore same-sex love scenes to its 2019 inflight movies “Booksmart” and “Rocketman,” TheWrap has confirmed.
“We are immediately putting a new process in place for managing content available through Delta’s in-flight entertainment,” Delta said in a statement to TheWrap. “Studios often provide videos in two forms: a theatrical, original version and an edited version. We selected the edited version and now realize content well within our guidelines was unnecessarily excluded from both films. We are working to make sure this doesn’t happen again.”
The airline confirmed this week that the versions of both films edited for fights omitted key same-sex love scenes involving its lead characters. The love scenes did not violate Delta’s guidelines, but other material did. Those unspecified violations led Delta to choose the edited version of the film to show. A Delta spokesperson told TheWrap the guidelines are not made public.
