Ewan McGregor is one of the busiest actors in Hollywood. Few days ago we reported that he will star in an Australian heist thriller Son of a Gun, and now comes the word that he’s attached to star in a project titled Born to Be King together with Kate Hudson!
So, we’re here to start a little romantic chat, because the movie, which comes from director Peter Capaldi, is already being described as a mistaken-identity romantic comedy!
Born to Be King will revolve around a film extra, played by McGregor, who has an uncanny resemblance to a movie star and a Hollywood starlet, played by Hudson, who’s at war with her co-star and begins to fall for the extra.
This looks like a horror to me, but if they say it’s a rom-com, then it’s rom-com!
Just for a record, if you have something against...

Scottish writer-director-actor Peter Capaldi ("In the Loop") has landed Ewan McGregor and is in talks with Kate Hudson to star in his mistaken identity comedy "Born To Be King." The film will shoot at Pinewood Studios in January. Indomina's Stephanie Denton is handling foreign sales at the American Film Market. McGregor will play dual roles as an extra who resembles a major movie star during the shooting of a period film. Hudson would play a starlet who has issues with the star but likes the extra. Capaldi, who won an Oscar for his short film "Franz Kafka’s It’s A Wonderful Life," promises a film that is "artful and magical" and "entertaining." Los Angeles producer Dan Lupovitz, who has been nurturing the project for two years, calls Capaldi's orginal screenplay a "full out bells and whistles comedy." McGregor and Capaldi have been compatriots and pals for years, and Hudson was Capaldi's.

Ewan McGregor has signed on for the upcoming romantic comedy Born To Be King. The Thick of It actor Peter Capaldi will direct the project from his own screenplay, with Kate Hudson in talks to join. The mistaken identity comedy centres on a film extra (McGregor) who looks very similar to a famous movie star, and a Hollywood actress (Hudson) who clashes with her co-star and falls in love with the extra. "Born to be King exemplifies the type of high-quality product Indomina aims to bring to the international marketplace," said distributor Indomina's Stephanie Denton. "Peter's screenplay seamlessly weaves the story of the (more)...

Jay Chandrasekhar of Broken Lizard fame has signed on to direct "Opposites Attract," a comedy from Bold Films.
Written by Dan Ewen, "Opposites" is a body-switching comedy involving a young couple who must "walk a mile in each other's shoes" in order to make their relationship work.
Bold and Chandrasekhar are aiming to do an R-rated take on the body-switching genre while looking at the differences between the sexes.
Although Chandrasekhar helmed such Broken Lizard films as "Super Troopers" and "Beerfest" and tends to work with his comedy troupe, "Opposites" is not a Broken Lizard production.
Bold's Michel Litvak and David Lancaster are producing with Elements Entertainment's Chad Marting and Christopher Pratt. Gary Michael Walters is executive producing, with Garrick Dion co-producing.
The company's Stephanie Denton is handling domestic and international sales.

Lionsgate is wasting no time in tweaking its international film sales operation in the wake of its $56 million buyout of Mandate Pictures and the appointment of the latter's co-founder Joe Drake to lead the motion picture operation.
The company will announce this week that Helen Lee-Kim, a Mandate sales executive for the past four years, has been tapped as Lionsgate's president of international, while Stephanie Denton, who has held that title for the past 21⁄2 years, will exit the mini-major. Denton, who is expected to remain in the business, boasts a strong background in foreign sales, including long stints at Initial and before that Lakeshore.
The appointment suggests that Drake, who already has moved into Lionsgate's Santa Monica offices, will quickly put his stamp on the company's film efforts.
"Helen not only has superb relationships and is a really good salesperson, she's also an extraordinary leader," Drake said. It's not just about having great taste and evaluating projects, but about having someone who can become a partner in taking the company to the next level, he added.

Lionsgate acquired Mandate Pictures on Monday for $56.3 million in cash and stock.
The deal reunites Vancouver-based Lionsgate with Mandate's Joe Drake, who stepped down six years ago as head of international distribution to launch the indie production and distribution company with partners Nathan Kahane and Brian Goldsmith.
Drake is returning to the fold as co-COO and president of Lionsgate's motion picture group, overseeing theatrical production, distribution, marketing, acquisition and international theatrical operations. He also will continue as CEO of the Beverly Hills-based Mandate.
Lionsgate will pay $44.3 million in cash and $12 million in stock to be released over 18 months. It also will take on about $6.6 million in debt.
The acquisition reflects continuing growth at Lionsgate as it moves further into international distribution, Lionsgate co-chairman and CEO Jon Feltheimer said. He added that it will allow for a more streamlined realignment of the Lionsgate motion picture team, with Lionsgate theatrical films president Tom Ortenberg; production president Michael Paseornek; acquisitions, TV and co-productions president Peter Block; and international sales president Stephanie Denton all reporting to Drake.
