- Hailing from Japan's Okayama Prefecture, Shin Kazuhara was the foremost trumpeter on the Japanese session scene. Starting professionally in Jazz in the 1960s, where he played in the nationally renowned Tokyo Union big band led by Tatsuya Takahashi, he nonetheless managed to expand into other genres with much success, becoming a favourite player of many J-Pop stars, most notably the legendary Tatsuro Yamashita and Kadomatsu Toshiki, both of whom routinely called upon Kazuhara-sensei for their horn sections. And that's just the beginning...
In addition to the aforementioned, he also performed on countless popular film and TV soundtracks in Japan, including anime such as City Hunter, Sakura Wars, and Lupin III, to name a couple, often leading his Shin Kazuhara Group of trumpet players. In doing so, he forged solid, long-lasting collaborations with top Japanese composers such as Yuji Ohno, Hiroshi 'Space Battleship Yamato' Miyagawa and Toshiyuki Honda and he was a key player for the great Joe Hisaishi on his early scores for Studio Ghibli (Totoro, Kiki's Delivery Service, etc) - it's him you hear playing as the hero Pazu's trumpet on Castle In The Sky.
Unfortunately, ill health forced Kazuhara-sensei to retire from playing, but he leaves behind a formidable body of work that may yet go unparalleled on the Japanese session scene. Certainly, it won't be forgotten...- IMDb Mini Biography By: projectmolcos
