The series is officially described as an “action-packed origin story of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s beloved detective in an explosive re-imagining of this iconic character. At age 19, Sherlock Holmes is disgraced, raw, unfiltered, and unformed, when he finds himself caught up in a murder mystery at Oxford University which threatens his freedom. Diving into his first-ever case with a wild lack of discipline, Sherlock manages to unravel a globe-trotting conspiracy that will change his life forever.”

Deadline reports that Hero Fiennes Tiffin of the After film series has signed on to star in the Young Sherlock series that has been ordered by Prime Video – and to clear up any possible confusion before it can arise: no, this is not a series reboot or continuation of the 1985 film Young Sherlock Holmes, which came to us from director Barry Levinson, screenwriter Chris Columbus, and producer Steven Spielberg. Rather, this is an adaptation of the Young Sherlock series of novels that author Andrew Lane started writing in 2010. That series was a response to the success Charlie Higson was having with his series of Young James Bond novels. Guy Ritchie is on board to direct and executive produce all eight episodes of Young Sherlock‘s first season. Ritchie, of course, has prior Sherlock Holmes experience, having directed Robert Downey Jr. as the iconic character in the 2009 film Sherlock Holmes and...

Amazon Prime Video has ordered a series based on Andy Lane’s “Young Sherlock Holmes” novels with Hero Fiennes Tiffin set for the lead role, Variety has learned.
Guy Ritchie is attached to direct and executive produce the eight-episode series. It will be a reunion for Ritchie and Tiffin, who recently worked together on the feature “The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare.” It is also the latest Sherlock Holmes project for Ritchie, as he previously directed two films about the famous detective starring Robert Downey Jr. as Holmes, Jude Law as Dr. Watson, and Rachel McAdams as Irene Adler.
“In ‘Young Sherlock’ we’re going to see an exhilarating new version of the detective everyone thinks they know in a way they’ve never imagined before,” said Ritchie. “We’re going to crack open this enigmatic character, find out what makes him tick, and learn how he becomes the genius we all love.

I’m “biast” (con): nothing

Canadian writer and feminist Sarah Hagi recently said a glorious thing: “Lord, give me the confidence of a mediocre white man.” This kept ringing in my brain as I tolerated yet another celebration of an overconfident mediocre white man as charming, heroic, and worthy of emulation. In many ways, Eddie the Eagle is more insufferable than the whatever Triumph of the Ordinary Schmoe that opened last week at the local multiplex, and the one two weeks before that, because it is based on a true story that has been largely fictionalized to, theoretically, render it even more “inspirational” than it would otherwise have been. Chicago – “Eddie The Eagle” is thoroughly predictable underdog story, but this picture won me over with a plucky persistence fitting for its peculiar protagonist. It’s an admittedly minor but mostly true tale of an oddball outsider overcoming overwhelming odds.
Rating: 4.0/5.0
“Eddie The Eagle” was a not terribly talented but incredibly motivated British ski jumper who managed to compete in the 1988 Winter Olympics. He made the British Olympic team because no other British athletes had even thought to compete in that particular sport.
Taron Egerton, from last year’s surprisingly enjoyable “The Kingsman,” stars as Eddie. He’s a milk drinking, awkward, sexless nerd outfitted with giant dorky glasses and a wisp of a mustache. Egerton juts out his chin, hunches his back and perpetually seems on the verge of letting his glasses slip off his nose entirely. But he captures what made people like Eddie in the first place...

Movies about sports-related underdogs are a sub-genre unto themselves, but even among their ranks they vary in tone. They all aim to be inspirational to some degree, and while some take the story seriously others aim for laughs above all else. Reality-based underdog tales typically fall into the former camp — think Miracle, Rudy, Hoosiers — but the latest sports movie to be “based on a true story” is switching things up a bit. Eddie is a bespectacled kid with a leg brace in early ’70s England when he first decides his life goal of becoming an athlete in the Olympics. The dream appears to everyone else as existing far outside the realm of possibility, and even his father tells the boy at one point that “You are not an athlete.” He perseveres though, breaking multiple pairs of glasses in the process, and by 1987 Eddie (Taron Egerton) comes to settle on ski jumping. England...

Last week I said we’d be back at the Olympics, and indeed this week’s new release puts us back in the cheering section as another young man hopes to make his dreams of gold come true. While Race focused on American track legend, Jesse Owens, this time out we’re looking back on a British athlete, not from the Summer games but the Winter spectacle. Oh, and it’s during a less controversial era. Owens was pressured not to attend those 1936 games that were often used as a propaganda tool by Hitler. In 1988 no such pressures were brought to bear on this new film’s title hero. And while Owens also had to break past racial barriers, Michael Edwards (his birth name) faced a rigid class system and beurocrats determined to keep him out of competition. But in this “feel good” flick Michael’s determination earns him the nickname Eddie The Eagle.

A comedy-drama based on the true story of the plucky underdog defying expectations at the 1988 Winter Olympics under the tutelage of a cranky yet caring American coach who’s turned their back on the sport that made them a star? Yep, Cool Runnings is a classic, no doubt about it ,and it can now finally have an Calgary ’88 double bill with Eddie the Eagle, which tells the story of an even more unlikely athletic hero.
I didn’t know a lot about Eddie the Eagle, other than that he was a ski jumper. As I understand it, this biopic runs a little fast and loose with the facts and the end result is about...

"It's truly a remarkable story. If you love movies like Hoosiers, Rudy and Remember the Titans, you should see Eddie the Eagle." That's the perfect quote from Drew Brees to help sell this sports movie to the masses. Fox has unveiled their official Super Bowl TV spot for Eddie the Eagle, which is hitting theaters at the end of the month. Kingsman star Taron Egerton stars as Eddie Edwards, the titular "Eddie the Eagle" - England's first ever ski jumping athlete. The full cast includes Hugh Jackman, Christopher Walken, Tim McInnerny and Jo Hartley. This Big Game-themed spot features actual football players such as Kurt Warner, Russell Wilson & Drew Brees. They're really pushing this film, and I'll still say it looks damn good. "For as long as I can remember, it has been my ambition to become an Olympian. I just needed to find the right sport." 20th Century Fox has debuted an official Us trailer for Eddie the Eagle, the biopic about the first ski jumper Olympian from Great Britain who makes it into the 1988 Olympics in Calgary. Young actor Taron Egerton (seen in Kingsman) stars as "Eddie the Eagle", and the cast also includes Hugh Jackman as the guy who reluctantly trains him, plus Christopher Walken and Tim McInnerny. This follows the first international trailer which debuted earlier in the week, and it's much more captivating with some new footage not shown in the other one. This actually looks really good, I'm looking forward to seeing it. Enjoy! "Could you give me a push, please?" An international trailer has arrived for the film Eddie the Eagle, which sounds so much like it's going to be a comedy but is actually a drama about the story of the ski jumper who was the first Olympian to represent Great Britain in ski jumping during the 1988 Winter Olympics in Calgary. Taron Egerton (seen in Kingsman) plays "Eddie the Eagle", also featuring Hugh Jackman, Christopher Walken, Tim McInnerny and others. This actually looks fun to watch in, dare I say this, a Cool Runnings way - the underdog story of an Olympian that no one believed in. This might be Egerton's moment to really shine again, as he looks excellent in this. Consider me sold on seeing this, I'm intrigued. Hugh Jackman and Taron Egerton ("Kingsman: The Secret Service") are teaming up for the languishing biopic "Eddie the Eagle".
The true story tale deals with Eddie "The Eagle" Edwards, the first British ski jumper in Olympic history. Though he came last in both of his ski jumping events at the 1988 Winter Olympics in Calgary, Eddie became a media sensation.
Jackman will play Chuck Berghorn, a ski jumping expert from Lake Placid who helps Eddie train. Egerton won the title role after a "magical screen test" with Jackman, and beat out the likes of George MacKay and Jamie Bell for the part.
Timothy Spall is being sought for the role of Eddie's father. Dexter Fletcher ("Wild Bill") is directing from a script by Simon Kelton and Sean Macaulay.
Matthew Vaughn is attached to produce and filming aims to begin this spring.
