Actress Ellen Barkin has branded her ex-husband Ron Perelman's lawsuit against her "a cynical abuse of the legal system". The Revlon cosmetics boss launched legal action against Barkin and her brother George on Wednesday, claiming they stole money from a production company he financed. But Michelle Benson, Barkin's spokeswoman, has issued a statement, calling Perelman's lawsuit "frivolous" and "without merit." Perelman alleges the Barkins formed Applehead II to compete with Applehead I - which he had formed with them - and then stole money from the original company to pay for their new one. He also claims she used his money to pay for a lawsuit she filed against him, and pay George Barkin a $250,000-a-year salary. He is seeking unspecified compensatory damages, punitive damages and the return of misappropriated assets. Perelman and Barkin, 54, divorced in 2006.

Actress Ellen Barkin is suing her ex-husband Ronald Perelman for $3.4 million, insisting he promised the amount to her production company before their break-up. The couple split in 2006 after seven years together, and Barkin has already been awarded $40 million in her divorce from the billionaire businessman. However, in a suit filed in Manhattan Supreme Court on Tuesday, the actress alleges she's still owed more. She claims Perelman promised to pay more than $3 million to her new production company Applehead Pictures in 2005 when he became partners with her and her brother George Barkin. Her suit says the money was due "in eight payments, four each during 2006 and 2007." She adds, "Despite numerous requests to abide by the terms of his agreement, Perelman has not made a single one of these payments." A spokeswoman for Perelman tells PageSix.com he's waiting until given evidence the production company has actually produced anything, insisting, "She (Barkin) has not complied with any of her obligations under the agreement."...
