Enzo makes his triumphant return to The Vampire Diaries this Thursday (The CW, 8/7c) with one goal in mind: track down his old pal Damon. But does that mean he won’t also have time for a certain golden-haired vamp with an affinity for British accents?
Yeah, right. Have you seen this show before?

The Originals, Season 2, Episode 1, “Rebirth”
Written by Julie Plec and Marguerite MacIntyre
Directed by Lance Anderson
Airs Mondays at 8pm on The CW
On this week’s The Originals, Elijah coaxes Klaus and Hayley out of the shadows, Marcel builds an army, Davina meets a handsome stranger, and Cami attempts to separate herself from the vampires.
There’s no fear of the sophomore slump here–The Originals is a show that clearly knows what it’s doing. The second season opener is just as intense, well-acted, and well-shot as the very best episodes of the first season. Even comparisons to sister show The Vampire Diaries are no longer relevant here, as The Originals is quickly becoming its own beast.
It’d be difficult for a show set in New Orleans to be anything less than beautiful (even if it is, usually, filmed in Georgia), and “Rebirth” is quite lovely. The...

The Originals, Season 1, Episode 13, “Crescent City”
Written by Michael Narducci and Julie Plec
Directed by Chris Grismer
Airs Tuesdays at 8pm Est on The CW
On this week’s The Originals, the French Quarter witches declare war against Klaus and co., Hayley meets her family, Rebekah is duped by yet another man, Elijah faces a difficult choice, and another character falls victim to the brewing war in New Orleans.
With The Vampire Diaries/The Originals vets Michael Narducci and Chris Grismer, along with Head Honcho Julie Plec, helming “Crescent City,” it’s no surprise at all that the episode is so well-done and excellent. So much happens, it’s hard to pinpoint everything that makes it great. Best of all, neither the story nor the emotional development of the characters is jipped–the overall arc of the episode balances everything together quite nicely, giving the audience a delicious treat of an episode.

The Originals, Season 1, Episode 10, “The Casket Girls”
Written by Charlie Charbonneau and Michelle Paradise
Directed by Jesse Warn
Airs Tuesdays at 8pm Est on The CW
On this week’s The Originals, Davina attacks the vampires, Camille breaks her compulsion, Rebekah protects her fellow females, and Sophie teams up with Hayley.
With half of a season down (and a full season pick-up), The Originals returns in “The Casket Girls” with overwhelming–and well-earned–confidence. This show clearly knows what it’s doing now and is settling into a tight, swiftly-moving groove.
Though unnecessary, the opening flashback and corny voice over serve to set up the episode’s overarching theme–females, and their need to look after one another. This is a male-dominated world and arguably a male-dominated show, but that doesn’t mean the females (all who are distinguished from one another by their various nuances and characteristics) are content following the men.

Airs Tuesdays at 8pm Est on The CW
On this week’s The Originals, Tyler pays New Orleans a bloody visit, Hayley stumbles upon her family, Elijah disappoints Klaus, Rebekah and Marcel discuss the future, and Davina helps Josh overcome his compulsion to Klaus.
At this point, Klaus is definitely a full-blooded villain and antagonist on this show, despite The Originals‘s attempts to portray him otherwise. Even The Vampire Diaries tried to give him redeeming qualities, but, seven episodes in on The Originals, he’s already back to being a vicious and petty monster. How can the audience possibly see him as the hero of the series, as this show seems to want us to? Unless the endgame is Klaus’s redemption, which, if done right, could be great.

The Originals, Season 1, Episode 3, “Tangled Up in Blue”

Directed by Chris Grismer
Airs Tuesdays at 8pm Et on The CW
On this week’s The Originals, Klaus and Rebekah plot against Marcel, Sophie teams with the enemy, Hayley learns more about her unborn baby, and Camille remains a sad, lonely bartender.
Unfortunately, The Originals is still keeping the opening (and now closing) voice-overs around. Just because the show’s about centuries-old vampires doesn’t mean lazy storytelling is acceptable, and honestly, it’s disappointing (especially when the voice-overs are describing present day events!). With such a great crew of writers, they should be able to come up with more clever ways to narrate each episode. Occasionally the voice-overs work, for instance when Klaus explains his plan against Marcel’s right hand man as the viewers watch it being set in motion. This ends up being a beautifully-done scene,...

The Originals, Season 1, Episode 1, “Always and Forever”

Airs Tuesdays at 8 pm (Et) on The CW
On this week’s The Originals premiere, Klaus wreaks havoc in New Orleans while Elijah cleans up his mess, Sophie blackmails everybody, Marcel rants about power, Rebekah takes a really long bath, and Hayley contemplates motherhood.
Somewhere there’s an unwritten rule insisting all vampire-related projects must open with a vampire attack in a dimly-lit place (extra points if it’s during a flashback). We get it–vampires like to stalk their victims at night. The Vampire Diaries began this way and The Originals, its spinoff, follows suit as well, albeit in flashback. Thursday’s Vampire Diaries brought us one of the best character entrances in recent memory as Damon recounted his time in New York City circa 1977 to Elena.
Close your eyes and picture it: A couple walks down a dark, empty street – until they’re stopped in their tracks by someone lying lifelessly on the floor. Before they even have a chance to help, the mystery man is on his feet and feeding on the gal.

When we have an episode of "The Vampire Diaries" that's particularly heavy on exposition, like last week's was, it's generally followed by a high-action, fast-paced episode, like this week's.
The trouble is, I'm tempted to say that "Homecoming" had too much action.
The rapid twists and turns coupled with nonlinear storytelling left us without much emotional resonance in scenes that should have been heartbreaking.
I'm going to warn you all ahead of time... I didn't like this episode. This recap is much more critical than fun, so if that's not your thing, feel free to click away! As usual, every single sentence in here is based on my own opinion and my own viewing experience. If your opinions differ, that's awesome, and I'd love to hear all about your thoughts in the comments section.
Last fall we saw "Masquerade," where our heroes worked together and came off looking like pros.

Yes, I did just use a Fall Out Boy song title as my headline for this recap. Stop judging me.
The break's over and "The Vampire Diaries" is back. After spending some time on set recently, I've been incredibly anxious for the return -- the cast has been very cryptic about the amazing (and horrible) things that are in store for our Mystic Falls favorites.
Tonight's episode employed a host of our favorite "Vampire Diaries" gimmicks: the Elena/Katherine bait and switch, the reincarnation by ring, and Bonnie moving leaves around with her brain. Just as we were getting comfortable in some familiar territory, however, everything was upended with a shocking twist. It took me a good 20 minutes to remove my jaw from the floor after that final scene.
Ready to re-watch it with me? Let's go, team!
8:01 - Is it just me, or does Isobel speak like a zombie,...

If anyone expected a sophomore slump from "The Vampire Diaries," they're eating their words as the CW show nears the end of its second season. Season 2 has more than lived up to the promise of the highly successful first season, and one of the primary reasons for the creative success of year 2 is Candice Accola.
When writers decided that Caroline would turn vampire in this year's shocking premiere, "The Return," we weren't sure what to expect. After all, the last time a series regular "turned," she was killed off shortly thereafter (rest in peace, Vicki Donovan!).
Executive producer Julie Plec recently tweeted, "Caroline having chemistry with everybody has been the best surprise to us as writers. [It] makes it easy to find story."
Thus, Caroline has managed to survive her difficult transformation and Accola has easily become one of the surprise breakouts of the show -- and one of the fan favorites.

Excuse us while we scrap the remnants of our jaws off the floor.
You know you've just watched a good season finale when you have said the phrase "Oh my god!" over five times. We said it about 10 times during "Pretty Little Liars" Season 1 finale on Monday, Mar. 21.
Sure, the first half moved a glacial pace and it almost felt like nothing was going to happen. Luckily, the second half took a few Adderall pills and kicked the drama into high gear.
Instead of running down the entire episode (because really, who wasn't watching?) we're going to choose the best/funniest/scariest moments from the episode. So without further ado, here are our top 10 moments from "Pretty Little Liars'" Season 1 finale, "For Whom the Bell Tolls":
10. Shirtless Toby Ftw!
We won't lie, that video of Jenna seducing Toby may be the show's creepiest moment Ever. Seriously, it was uncomfortable to watch.

"The House Guest" is the last "Vampire Diaries" episode before a long, long hiatus, and it's going to include singing, and after chatting with Candice Accola and Zach Roerig about the episode, my hopes were extremely high. Let's just say my expectations were exceeded, and I almost waited until tomorrow to write this recap because I just wanted to sit on the couch and revel in it all.
Previously on "The Vampire Diaries" - Klaus was scary, Elena was not unique like a snowflake, and Elijah died twice in a row.
8:01 - "It's school. Remember that thing that we keep forgetting about?" I think this is Elena, but I don't know! The fact that it's the most typical Stefan/Elena morning-after-great-sex scene ever makes me think that there's about to be some kind of a twist here.
Oh my god. I'm so confused! Is Damon choking Elena or Katherine?...

I absolutely adore the flashback episodes of "The Vampire Diaries," because I think that they're the ones that really showcase the show's greatest strength: the relationship between Stefan and Damon.
You can 'ship until you're blue in the face, but at the end of the day, the relationship between the brothers Salvatore is undeniably the most complex one in the series. It's a centuries-old rivalry driven, firstly, by the inherent blood-borne love anyone has for his family. When it's easier to hate someone, loving them is a giant pain in the ass, because you can't just shake it and you can't walk away from it.
Seeing the way Damon and Stefan related to each other just after they turned, when they were essentially all each other had in the world, is absolutely heartbreaking. I rarely feel the urge to give Damon a hug... tonight I did. "The Dinner Party" was...

Happy Valentine's Day, "Pretty Little Liars" fans! You already knew ABC Family, WaterTower Records and Warner Horizon Television are releasing an 11-song soundtrack for the hit show, which is set to hit stores and iTunes on Tuesday, Feb. 15. But we've found out another Valentine's Day gift in store for you: An exclusive bonus track.
Fay Wolf's cover of The Outfield's "Your Love" is a track exclusive to the soundtrack that can't be bought anywhere else. The song played in the season's 14th episode, "Careful What U Wish 4," when Sean (Chuck Hittinger) breaks up with Hanna (Ashley Benson) at the dance for dancing with Lucas (Brendan Robinson).
In a video interview, the show's music supervisor (and Zap2it favorite) Chris Mollere says, "'Your Love' you can only get on the soundtrack, so that's definitely exclusive to us and we're very happy to be the ones to share that with everybody.

"Vampire Diaries" fans, I hope you have tissues handy tonight, because "Crying Wolf" is quite the tearjerker. I've been waiting for this episode (slash dreading it) since early December and I'm so glad the cat is finally out of the bag so that I can cry about this stuff in public. Because there's nothing I love more than public crying.
We'll get to that later. On tonight's "Vampire Diaries," Stefan (Paul Wesley) and Elena (Nina Dobrev) hit the road in Stefan's tiny awesome Porsche, Damon (Ian Somerhalder) goes to a tea party, and my heart gets run over by a crazy werewolf lady in a truck. Cheers!
8:00 p.m. - Previously on "The Vampire Diaries," Mason was alive, Damon and Stefan had an entire conversation with their eyebrows, and Caroline proved to women everywhere that it's possible to spend a night locked in some creepy supernatural torture-porn Rv and walk away with perfect hair.

When Zap2it visited the Atlanta set of "The Vampire Diaries" set this December, below-freezing temps and blustery winds had everyone bundling up, so we were happy to get out of the cold, especially with the always warm and welcoming Katerina Graham for company.
It was just a few days after the episode "The Sacrifice" aired, in which Graham's cover of the Garbage classic "Only Happy When It Rains" was used in the soundtrack, so of course, we had to ask about hearing her music on the show.
Graham confirms that she recorded the cover specifically with "Tvd" in mind. "I just wanted to do a song for the show, because I couldn't use anything that was in my actual catalog, because it's all, you know, poppy. It's like a gay disco," she laughs. "I was like 'This isn't going to work. I'll just do a song and submit it,...

We've got a secret, "Pretty Little Liars" fans and it's a good one. But don't worry, we're not keeping it.
ABC Family, WaterTower Records and Warner Horizon Television are releasing an 11-song soundtrack for the hit show, which includes the "Pretty Little Liars'" crazy addictive theme song "Secret" performed by The Pierces. I usually go into writing my "Vampire Diaries" recaps with a snarky and silly attitude, but right now I'm feeling more nervous than anything!
It's no secret that "By The Light of the Moon" is Tyler's (Michael Trevino) big transformation episode, and judging by the clips we saw of Mason's first turn, it's going to be a hell of a night.
There's plenty going on in Mystic Falls that doesn't involve Tyler. Stefan is trapped in the tomb, Elena is still on a suicide mission, and Jeremy and Bonnie and Luka are part of the most lopsided love triangle ever.
I spent a few days with the cast of "The Vampire Diaries" on their set in Atlanta this week and got some fun insight into the shooting of this episode, which is definitely my most anticipated episode yet. Can they pull off this wolf-out? Let's see.

"The Vampire Diaries" is back! There's no time for niceties tonight. Last week was a bye week, so let's get to "Plan B" right away.
On your mark, get set, play.
8:01 - Oh, Elena (Nina Dobrev). You know it's bad when your boyfriend - your vampire boyfriend - tells you that watching him sleep is creepy. It's kind of their thing. This whole warm, intimate scene should feel comfortable and safe, but whenever anyone is happy on this show, I get nervous. It always means things are going to take a turn for the worse.
Meanwhile, Katherine is at a... cozy bed and breakfast? I picture her at a more upscale, fireplace in your suite, your own personal bellhop to drink for dinner kind of place. Make note, guys - I have a feeling that Katherine's random exposition about Miss Flowers is going to become relevant in the future.
On your mark, get set, play.

The Season 2 premiere of "The Vampire Diaries" was beyond epic. It's the best TV I've seen in way, way, way too long.
Ian Somerhalder just steamrolled all over my heart. I don't really have the words to describe his work here.
Nina Dobrev had better get ready for an extraordinary career, because she just proved that she can pretty much do anything. Paul Wesley's controlled violence gave me the chills -- while Michael Trevino's complete loss of control as Tyler was heartbreaking. Steven R. McQueen outdid himself in scenes where he didn't even have any dialogue.
Oh, sorry, am I gushing? Let's just get to the episode. Cue up your DVRs. Let's watch together. Don't forget to let me know what you do and don't agree with in the comments.
