Pitched somewhere in the broad territory between intriguing and risible, a new teaser trailer for the forthcoming Creatures describes itself as an "alien puppet' movie. The video itself doesn't showcase any obvious, puppet-looking creatures, but the scenes depicted suggest that lunacy -- and wild imagination -- may be afoot. Now in post-production, the official synopsis sets forth the goal: "A group of astronomy students get more than they bargained for after finding an injured alien who is being targeted by a group of bloodthirsty alien creatures." Shot in the UK just before lockdown began in February 2020, the Christmas-themed feature reportedly mixes practical and visual FX. Tony Jopia is directing, with the intention of delivering "a non-stop action, sci-horror comedy packed with badass nasty aliens."...

Creatures, a new horror comedy from UK director Tony Jopia is now in post and due to hit the festival circuit (whatever that means this year) before a physical release at the end of the year. Christmas themed horror flicks are always welcome. Horror flicks that promises a mix of old school puppet creature work are especially welcome. On top of that you tout that your film could sit alongside creature classics like Night of the Creeps, Critters and Ghoulies? Well now. That's a mighty big boast. We will see at the end of this year if Creatures lives up to these lofty expectations they have set. One of the producers passed along some stills from the production as well as the...

If Monty Pythons and the Holy Grail (1975) and Watership Down (1978) taught me anything growing up, if it doesn’t look like it isn’t dressed up to attend the Playboy Mansion, rampant rabbits are dangerous. Tony Jopia takes that premise one step further with his B-Movie creature feature Cute Little Buggers.
When hostile aliens land on earth with the intension of taking over the planet to save their own race, they choose to mutate the local rabbit population. Blending the rabbits with alien DNA, they knowingly unleashed the cute but vicious blood thirsty creatures on the unsuspecting locals. As the butchered bodies starts piling and the rampant rabbits begin to rampage, the locals are forced to...

Damned Nation is the latest action-packed film from Cute Little Buggers (2017) director Tony Jopia. I got a chance to ask Tony a few questions about how he plans continue the story, what we can expect in the future and how fans can keep updated regarding the future of Damned Nation.
Damned Nation is an action packed short which gives us an introduction to an apocalyptic future. Why did you decide to complete a short film, and will you be looking to continuing the story as a feature film or a series?
We wanted to make it as enjoyable as we could. Just because it’s a short it doesn’t mean we can’t fill it with all the ingredients that make a fab action movie, in this case it’s all contained within a shorter amount of time. The overall idea is much bigger but unfortunately, we only had...

Dawning of the Dead is the latest horror film for writer and director Tony Jopia who’s previous films include Cute Little Buggers (2017), Crying Wolf (2015) and Deadtime (2012). I got a chance to talk with Tony about why he decided to make a zombie film, never giving up and bringing the gore to the screen.
Hi Tony, thank you for joining me again today I appreciate you taking the time out to talk to me again. You are following up the critical success of Cute Little Buggers with your new film Dawning of the Dead. Why did you decide to make a zombie film?
We were working out way through the horror genres. We always said that we would make these films with the attitude that we would have fun making them. So, after doing a slasher with Dead Time, we then wanted to do a creature feature which we did...

With the upcoming worldwide release of the modern creature feature comedy Cute Little Buggers I was lucky enough to spend some time with the film’s director Tony Jopia to talk about his influences, bringing the bunnies to life and having fun on set.
How did first get in to filmmaking?
When I was 9 years old I was asked what I wanted to do at school. I remember seeing Airport 1975 (1974) and then not long after another film called the The Poseidon Adventure (1972). They both kind of set a firm seed in my mind that making moves is what I wanted to do. My father used to wake me up at midnight to watch all the creature feature movies that used to appear late at night. I had school the next day yet he would still wake me up at midnight and say, “Come and watch this”. It was the...

Remember the good ol' days with films such as Gremlins, Critters and Hobgoblins? The days when we had little creatures that terrorized whole towns and communities? Well, someone is looking to bring those days back with Cute Little Buggers.
It's meant to be a B-movie comedy/horror creature feature that mixes elements from films such as Hot Fuzz and Gremlins. Directed by Tony Jopia, this film is about aliens that crash land in the English countryside and kidnap women from a local ball. It's up to a stranger named Melchior and the villagers to rescue the women from these adorable creatures.
The creatures take the form of adorable bunnies, but can open up their face to look like full on face huggers. Their purpose is to procreate. So in a way, it's also aliens with bunnies. It looks like a lot of fun. Uncork'd is distributing in the Us and...

An ominous warning from the opening scene of Crying Wolf
Crying Wolf is the latest Horror-Comedy from UK director Tony Jopia (Deadtime, 2012). The story is told from the perspective of a character known only as “Private Detective” (played by Gary Martin who is best known in film for his work getting murdered by a tractor in 1986’s Slaughter High). The first thing that gets me is that Martin, a long-time voice over actor who you can hear in films like Neverending Story, Corpse Bride and Fern Gully (to say nothing of his collaborations with rock icons, Queen), appears to have dubbed his own dialog in Crying Wolf in an overly dramatic coffee commercial way. Something I immediately chalked up to an intentional touch of comedic irony. Because, why not. After Martin nearly comes to blows with a shopkeeper over his desire to purchase a book titled Crying Wolf,...

*full disclosure: an online screener of this film was provided by Midnight Releasing. Director: Tony Jopia. Writer: Stephen Bishop. Cast: Laurence Saunders, Carl Coleman, Elisabeth Shahlavi, Alex Marieka Hanly, Leslie Grantham, Terry Christian, and Joe Egan. The United Kingdom shot Deadtime is about a band trying to find a comeback. In a dilapitated studio in Birmingham, they find a serial killer instead. The cliches abound is this small film. From an isolated locale to no cell phone service, you have seen this style of filmmaking and writing before. Fortunately, some late prose and instances of overacting create for a few light moments. The story follows Love Meets Murder, a band struggling with a lack of popularity. Their last outing did not bring in the revenue. Now, they are relegated to a back water studio where they hope to record some new singles. Once at the locale, they sing and gyrate...

Stars: Laurence Saunders, Carl Coleman, Elisabeth Shahlavi, Leslie Grantham, Joe Egan, Terry Christian, Julian Boote | Written by Stephen Bishop | Directed by Tony Jopia
Getting noticed for recent cuts made to a death scene Deadtime is a British horror hoping to catch people’s attention. With cameos from Leslie Grantham and Terry Christian it definitely gets noticed by British fans who probably wonder why the hell they are in the film. Surprisingly though they are well used, not just for their names but for the scenes they are in.
When a band is in need of a bit of a revival they are locked into an old warehouse studio to record their new video with hopes of getting some interest back. Things don’t go to plan though as a masked killer starts to kill them one by one, with no idea how to escape and the killer hiding within...

This was emailed to me earlier today (likely because a black man (Carl Coleman) is prominently featured in the cast) calling it a kind of Night Of The Living Dead retread (the black dude saves the day). It’s a British slasher flick called Deadtime, directed by Tony Jopia, about a music band ordered by their record company to a warehouse to re-start their ailing careers by shooting a new promo video. Unfortunately the band and their entourage find themselves targets of a mysterious knife-wielding maniac, haunted by the voice of Satan, and out for revenge. The film is currently in post production, with a 2011 release date planned (probably in the UK).
