Night of the Hunted, the latest film from Franck Khalfoun is a remake, but not of Jean Rollin’s 1980 paranoid thriller of the same name, though that would be a logical choice for rebooting in these conspiracy-riddled times. Instead, he and co-writer Glen Freyer have reworked and updated Rubén Ávila Calvo and David R.L.’s 2015 Spanish thriller Night of the Rat.
This film begins in a hotel room where Alice is talking to her husband on the phone, we hear something about an appointment with a fertility specialist before she hurriedly hangs up as John enters the room. Driving back to town in the pre-dawn darkness they make a stop for gas despite Jiohn’s insistence that he filled the tank the day before. Alice goes in to grab some snacks, and as...

Genre regulars Alexandre Aja and Franck Khalfoun have worked together many times over the years. Khalfoun had acting roles in Aja’s movies High Tension and Piranha 3D, worked in the script department on Aja’s The Hills Have Eyes remake, and was an executive producer on his film Oxygen. Aja wrote and produced Khalfoun’s directorial efforts P2 and Maniac. And now they’ve teamed up again for the thriller Night of the Hunted, which is set to start streaming on both the Shudder and AMC+ services as of October 20th. We’ve gotten our hands on a trailer for Night of the Hunted, and you can check it out in the embed above.
Like several of the previous Aja and Khalfoun projects, Night of the Hunted is a remake. In this case, the source material is the 2015 Spanish film La Noche del Ratón.

Pamplona, Spain — This year’s Conecta Fiction, Spain’s upstart international TV co-pro and networking event now in its third year, hosted a Pitch Digiseries session, an hour-long event which saw five ambitious short-form projects pitch to industry professionals gathered in the northern city of Pamplona.
While drama may be the name of the game among high-end broadcast TV projects pitched at Conecta Fiction, for digital short form series it was all about the laughs. Five series pitched on Tuesday, each one featuring a dark humor popular among young audiences more likely to watch an 8-12 minute episode on their phone than sit down for 50 minutes of heavy drama.
Gabi Ochoa and Héctor Beltrán’s “From the Dead,” was the session’s big winner, taking home the Acorde prize, which includes the scoring of an original soundtrack for the series’ first season.

A self-acknowledged "showcase for Academy Award frontrunners," the Santa Barbara International Film Festival is often overlooked for the actual films that earn it festival status. An amalgamation of international discoveries and ’merica’s circuit highlights, the Sbiff curates a week of best-of-the-best to pair with their star-praising. The 2015 edition offers another expansive selection, bookended by two films that aren’t on any radars just yet. Sbiff will open with "Desert Dancer," producer Richard Raymond’s directorial debut. Starring Reece Ritchie and Frieda Pinto, the drama follows a group of friends who wave off the harsh political climate of Iran’s 2009 presidential election in favor of forming a dance team, picking up moves from Michael Jackson, Gene Kelly and Rudolf Nureyev thanks to the magic of YouTube. The festival will close with "McFarland, USA," starring Kevin Costner and Maria Bello. Telling the 1987 true story of a Latino high school’s underdog cross-country team,...
