Though the many big, small and no-screen adaptations of Jrr Tolkien's Lord Of The Rings and associated tomes, footnotes and apocrypha have offered portrayals of a wide variety of characters for fans to relish/debate, one has been notably absent. Well, fret no more, Tom Bombadil hive, because the all-singing, magic-slinging master of the yellow boots will finally get his due in the form of Rory Kinnear on The Lord Of The Rings: The Rings Of Power Season 2.
Bombadil appealed to Rings Of Power executive producers Jd Payne and Patrick McKay, and they have him encountering the Halflings and Gand… Sorry, The Stranger (Daniel Weyman) on their quest.
"He’s whimsical and magical, and almost verging on silly. But also has the wisdom of the ages and the music of the spheres and deep emotional wells of ancient history and myth, and his conception and function are tied to...

A renowned Lord of the Rings character who didn’t see the light of day in the Peter Jackson movies is finally making his grand debut in season 2 of Prime Video’s The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, and that’s Tom Bombadil, who’ll be played by already announced Rory Kinnear. Scroll down to see more photos of the Bombadil from season 2.
At the time of Kinnear’s announcement, it wasn’t revealed exactly which character he’d be playing in a recurring role.
In the J.R.R. Tolkien tome, Bombadil saves Frodo and the other hobbits from myriad perils. In season 2, Bombadil encounters the Stranger (Daniel Weyman) and his Harfoot friends Nori (Markella Kavenagh) and Poppy (Megan Richards) on their journey to eastern Middle-earth.
The news about Bombadil was unveiled by Vanity Fair in a conversation with Rings of Power showrunners J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay.

The Rings of Power season 1 was the most expensive season of television ever made at the time of its debut in September 2022. Unsurprisingly, the premiere pulled in huge numbers for Amazon Prime Video, although reports suggest the series saw a steep drop in viewership in later weeks.
Despite winning a few awards and being nominated for many others, online fan discussion about the show has tended to be a bit on the negative side, particularly when compared with HBO’s House of the Dragon, which aired around the same time in 2022. Both were prequels to earlier hits, based on major fantasy franchises, spinning out fairly brief source material into something much longer and more detailed. But where House of the Dragon pulled fans back into George R.R. Martin’s Westeros after the last few seasons of Game of Thrones put many off, The Rings of Power was perceived as a...

I first caught Rob Price’s tense short Strangers at the London Film Festival back in October where it stood out to me amongst the other shorts playing through its distinctively unnerving atmosphere. It follows a lonely dog walker as she ventures through a vast, open field. There she encounters a man who starts up a seemingly innocent conversation but as their chat unfolds, there may be more to him than meets the eye. What I really connected with in Price’s short is the dread-filled ambience he creates both through the dynamic between his characters and the darkened, disturbed cinematography he employs to display it. It really is a great example of how to create tension through each aspect of a film’s production. Directors Notes is stoked to present the premiere of Strangers in conjunction with a deep dive with director Price on the journey of making his short,...

This Lord of the Rings article contains spoilers for The Rings of Power.
Despite Warner Bros. hogging the news cycle as it pertains to the Lord of the Rings universe, production on the second season of Amazon’s The Rings of Power is well underway. In fact, season 2 has been filming for months at this point, and is reportedly aiming for a 2024 release date.
The Rings of Power season 2 will, of course, pick up where the finale left off: Sauron has arrived in Mordor and trouble is brewing in Numenor, while the Stranger and Nori are off to Rhun and the Balrog has awakened in the depths of Moria. Oh, and Celebrimbor has decided to accessorize and create the three rings of power for the Elves, which will soon mean rings for the Dwarves and Men, too.
With all the rings being forged, it’s no surprise season 2 will spend...

Get ready to fire up those fan theories and a whole lot of reckless speculation, Tolkien nerds! The first season of "The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power" successfully drew a whole new audience of diehards and casual fans alike to this refreshingly new story set in the wilds of Middle-earth and beyond, taking place thousands of years before the events told in J.R.R. Tolkien's novels and Peter Jackson's trilogy adaptation. Along the way, the Prime Video series propped up a number of season-long mysteries and kept viewers guessing along with the characters themselves about some of the big mystery-box reveals to come: Namely, who the heck was actually Sauron in disguise and whether that mysterious Stranger was, in fact, Gandalf himself.
By the end of the season, all those questions were answered ... but with such a big ensemble cast to follow and so much secrecy...

The great fantasy show face-off of 2022 ended weeks ago, with Prime Video's "The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power" and HBO's "House of the Dragon" each concluding their first season in October. However, we're still talking about both shows and how their streaming numbers matched up, among other things. Ratings don't mean as much, of course, when you're a franchise prequel with a built-in fanbase and a second season that has already been written and already began filming even before the first season concluded.
"The Rings of Power" was actually renewed as far back as 2019, and Prime Video invested almost half a billion dollars in the first season alone, so its immediate future was never in doubt. This put the show's writers in the unique position of not having to wonder whether they would be able to continue the story beyond the first season.

From the moment Daniel Weyman as "The Stranger" came plummeting down to Middle-earth at the end of the series premiere for "The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power," viewers have suspected he's actually Gandalf. And why wouldn't they? Sure, The Stranger is younger-looking than we're used to seeing our favorite pipe weed-smoking wizard, and he's far more uncertain of himself (not to mention tolerant of halfling shenanigans), but it's only to be expected. After all, he's still clearly getting used to the whole being human thing.
The "Rings of Power" season 1 finale seemed to confirm what many of us had assumed all along, affirming that The Stranger is a force for good and an intimidating spell caster when he needs to be — and let us not forget that he, like Gandalf, seems to have a thing for moths (said with no judgment). But no, there's nary a point...

Released earlier this year, fans of Berzerk Studio’s side-scrolling action adventure game Infernax are getting a treat today with the release of a new Halloween update. Available on the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Steam versions of Infernax, the update adds the new playable character known as “The Stranger”, a shotgun-wielding maniac wearing a familiar-looking hockey mask.
Players can unlock The Stranger in Infernax from the very beginning by naming a new save file’s character “stranger.” Along with The Stranger’s unorthodox attacks, the shotgun packs a serious punch both ways, so while you’re enjoying the gore it spreads, be wary of the kickback.

“I felt a real sense of responsibility,” confesses “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” co-supervising sound editor Damian Del Borrello. The artist had the daunting task of creating a Middle Earth soundscape for Amazon’s epic series while contending with high expectations thanks to Peter Jackson’s iconic film trilogy. Del Borrello moved to Wellington, New Zealand to work alongside the artists from those films, so he was determined to honor their work while giving the fans a worthy sonic landscape. Watch the exclusive video interview above.

“There was a tension between trying to do what’s already been done, but also bring something new to it,” explains Del Borrello. So, he “reacquainted” himself with the sound of the famous film trilogy and explored ways to bring a new spin to that world.

“When in doubt, Elanor Brandyfoot, always follow your nose,” The Stranger tells the young Harfoot in The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power’s Season 1 finale.
The line is almost identical to what Gandalf (played by Ian McKellen) tells Pippin in Peter Jackson’s Fellowship of the Ring, leaving many wondering if The Stranger — who was revealed to be an Istari — is the famed Grey Wizard. Adding to speculation is his friendship with Nori and the other Harfoots, which feels reminiscent of Gandalf’s relationships with both Bilbo Baggins and Bilbo’s nephew Frodo.

Writers — they're just like us! If you thought we fans were the only ones getting all caught up in our feelings while watching these larger-than-life stories on such an unimaginably wide canvas, think again. "The Lord of the Rings" has always boasted a sincere streak that tugs right at the heartstrings of its fans, revealing author J.R.R. Tolkien as something of a softie when it comes to fantastical adventures, the power of friendship, and the nostalgic comforts of home. The symbolic representation of these ideas have traditionally come courtesy of the hobbits, the home-loving little folk with big feet and even bigger hearts. Frodo, Sam, Bilbo, and all the rest may be completely different characters, but they all share many of the same qualities that make them so easy to root for and identify with.

(Warning: Major spoilers ahead for the "The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power" season 1 finale.)
"The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power" season 1 has ended, and much has been revealed. After weeks of speculation, we know the identity of Sauron. We have a pretty good idea of who the Stranger (Daniel Weyman) is from some contextual clues and lines. We've seen Galadriel (Morfydd Clark) tested, and we've lost a harfoot. So much happened in the final hour of the season, including the forging of three rings of power for the elves. Instead of a giant battle at the end, we were taken back to characters and relationships.
I got a chance to chat with Gennifer Hutchison, who wrote this episode alongside showrunners J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay. Hutchison talked about balancing the information for fans with knowledge of J.R.R. Tolkien's work and those who are new to the lore,...

This article contains spoilers for "The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power" season 1.
Tearful goodbyes and too many endings: we've come to expect those from "The Lord of the Rings," and the season 1 finale of "The Rings of Power" didn't disappoint in that regard. Like "Andor," "The Rings of Power" is a prequel to a prequel, and the challenge any such narrative faces is: how do you engage viewers with a story when they already know how it will ultimately end? "The Hobbit" movie trilogy began with "An Unexpected Journey," but maybe all it and "The Rings of Power" could ever hope to be was a journey to an expected destination, with some unexpected developments along the way.
"Better Call Saul" skirted this issue slightly by being both a prequel and a black-and-white sequel at the same time. "The Rings of Power" has done it by finding ample...

Warning: spoilers for the season finale of "The Rings of Power" will follow!
As of its season finale, "The Rings of Power" finally gave up its secrets and provided some long-awaited answers to viewers who had been waiting all season long to discover who Sauron had been the entire time. The revelation that Halbrand (Charlie Vickers), the self-styled king of the Southlands, was actually the Dark Lord in disguise all along perhaps wasn't terribly shocking, but that doesn't mean the trail of breadcrumbs leading up to this reveal were any less intriguing.
In fact, even though the opening minutes of the finale seemed to point towards the Stranger (Daniel Weyman) as Sauron in disguise, some notable details and telltale remarks indicated that not all was as it seemed with Halbrand. This Lord of the Rings article contains spoilers of The Rings of Power.
It seems clear now: the Stranger is Gandalf. Or, more specifically, he is definitely one of the Istari – he hasn’t actually identified himself as Gandalf just yet, but we’re pretty sure he is, especially after his scenes with the mystics in the Greenwood and his moments with Nori at the end of the episode.
But when Den of Geek asks actor Daniel Weyman about the Stranger’s journey in “Alloyed,” he remains coy, about who his character truly is. Like the episode itself, he doesn’t outright confirm that he’s playing a Second Age version of our beloved wizard. What he is very open about is the decisions that lead the Stranger to choosing good over evil in his pivotal scene with the mystics and the Harfoots.

Spoilers follow for the eighth episode of "The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power."
The season finale of "The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power" is finally upon us, and with it came a bevy of reveals that set up an even more daring future for the series. The twists and turns in the story were not that far off from expectations, but it was still surreal to see them come to fruition. And we're not the only ones who had to wait until the finale to find everything, too. One of the actors behind the biggest reveal of the series had no idea who they are playing before filming this week's finale.
A major point of contention since the very first episode has been the true identity of the Stranger (Daniel Weyman). We've had our fair share of theories about him, but none had been confirmed until now.

This Lord of the Rings review contains spoilers for The Rings of Power.
The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power Episode 8
Now that was more like it! Eight episodes in, The Rings of Power feels like it’s finally kicking into gear. This first season finale was full of dramatic action, answers to nagging questions, and it even killed off a loveable character. And not only did people talk about rings, they actually made some!
The show has finally cleared up the issue of who Halbrand and the Stranger actually are, thank goodness. And we will hold our hands up and say, we admit it, we were wrong! Halbrand is Sauron after all, as half the internet had guessed a few episodes ago. The reveal was nicely done, balancing the growing realization for fans of Tolkien with a dramatic and, more importantly, clear and unambiguous reveal for non-book readers.

That Sauron Reveal on ‘The Rings of Power’ Finale Explained by [Spoiler], Plus a Preview of Season 2
Spoiler Alert: Do not read if you haven’t watched the Season 1 finale of “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power,” now streaming on Prime Video.
After much speculation and enough fan theories to fill a dwarven mine, “Rings of Power” fans finally got their answer on Sauron’s true identity in the prequel series — and it’s Halbrand (Charlie Vickers). The episode starts, however, with a fake-out from the three mysterious, white-cloaked witches claiming that the Stranger (Daniel Weyman) is actually Sauron. Later in the episode, it’s revealed that he’s not Sauron, but actually a powerful wizard known as an Istari, like Gandalf and Saruman from “The Lord of the Rings.”
Vickers and Weyman both spoke with Variety about the major reveals with Halbrand and the Stranger, now that they can finally spill on their true identities.

“The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” has gifted viewers with epic battles, surprising origin stories, and the cataclysmic eruption of Mount Doom over the course of season one. Episode seven, “The Eye” moved the plot along, but several tantalizing threads are still left dangling. Here are the questions I’m desperately hoping the Amazon series answers in the upcoming season finale.
What really happened to Celeborn?
Galadriel (Morfydd Clark) dropped a huge bombshell when she confessed that her husband Celeborn died. Well, she specifically stated that he left for the war and never returned. It’s a surprising confession considering that Celeborn is very much alive in “The Lord of the Rings” trilogy and rules the elven kingdom of Lothlorien with Galadriel. It’s safe to assume that Celeborn will show up eventually, but where is he now?
It’s possible the series is taking aspects of...

This Lord of the Rings article contains spoilers for The Rings of Power.
The Rings of Power has turned out to be a show full of mysteries to solve. Sure, we know where things are inevitably headed — Dark Lord Sauron will rise in the dark land of Mordor and the Elves and Men of Middle-earth must work together to defeat him — but how we get there is the real story of the Amazon series.
How did Sauron manipulate the other races of Middle-earth into forging the Rings of Power? What does the Dwarves discovering mithril have to do with the future of the Elves? Who are the people who lived in the Southlands before it became Mordor? What was the life of a Hobbit like before they settled in the Shire? These are the questions the first season of The Rings of Power is interested in answering, all while creating...

The age of men is over, the time of spoilers has come. Read no further if you're not caught up on the latest episode of "The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power."
Throughout its first season, "The Rings of Power" has carefully built up an air of mystery around several of its central storylines. Who exactly is Adar (Joseph Mawle) and why does he inspire so much reverence among the orcs? Where is the Dark Lord Sauron hiding and is it possible we've already met him in the guise of someone else? And, perhaps most pressingly of all, just what is the deal with the enigmatic Stranger (Daniel Weyman)? Theories surrounding who this bearded and shaggy figure actually is abound from the wizard Gandalf to Sauron himself to -- hear us out -- the merry fellow whose boots are yellow, Tom Bombadil.
But in a welcome change of pace,...

A central story thread in Amazon’s “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” is Galadriel’s (Morfydd Clark) quest to purge the evil Sauron from Middle Earth. The tale takes place during the Second Age of J.R.R. Tolkien’s writings, where most inhabitants of the continent believe Sauron to be dead. Anyone who has seen or read “The Lord of the Rings” trilogy knows that Sauron has not been defeated yet, and will indeed rise to power again.
With the Dark Lord in hiding during the Second Age, the series has been dropping plenty of hints that we have already seen Sauron on our screens. Tolkien describes Sauron as taking on a “fair” form during this age, allowing him to go unnoticed as he regains power. The following characters are the most compelling Sauron suspects, listed from most to least likely.

With five episodes in the Middle-earth Second Age, curiosity among the viewers of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power to delve deeper is soaring high. As they avidly wait for Sauron’s evil powers, a mysterious and magical character, The Stranger, has captured their attention. The shabby and ragged Stranger, who crashed into earth in a ball of fire has left viewers speculating about the consecutive episodes of the Amazon Original series. Actor Daniel Weyman, best known for his inexplicable performance in crime drama ‘Silent Witness’ plays this intriguingly mysterious character.
Talking about getting into the skin of the character, Daniel Weyman shared that the makers were crystal clear about his character’s arch, which helped him put his best foot forward. “They (makers) were pretty clear at the beginning that what they were bringing me was a character who had, at his core, a really deep and primal purpose.

Last week’s instalment of The Rings of Power threw up some key questions: Would Halbrand break his oath by joining Galadriel’s voyage to the Southlands? Could young Theo resist the pull of Sauron’s blade? And what’s the significance of the dwarves mining Mithril? We’ve got answers to all of that and more this week, and there was still time to catch up with the Harfoots, too. They even sang us a song! Let’s take a look at where things stand after fifth episode, “Partings”…
The Harfoots are back, with a song in their hearts and wolves on their tail
We start this week with the Harfoots on the road again. After a quick breather so that Nori (Markella Kavenagh) can teach The Stranger (Daniel Weyman) about their migratory habits, we follow the creatures’ travels through the sort of montage...

Five episodes into "The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power," we're now officially more than halfway through the deliberately-paced season and many viewers still find themselves struggling with the idea of what an adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkien should "feel" like. Nobody can ever really define what such a subjective statement actually means, of course, especially since material as well-known as this comes with such a broad range of appeal among so many different demographics. But I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that the opening of episode 5, titled "Partings," immediately sets the tone for a far more coherent hour than last week's scattershot episode and lives up to much of what fans would consider quintessential Tolkien.
After a quiet but foreboding conversation between Nori (Markella Kavenagh) and the Stranger (Daniel Weyman), where the almost childlike amnesiac expresses doubt over whether he's actually good or not (Rip those poor fireflies!

Paramount+ has set the lead cast for its upcoming drama series Sexy Beast, the prequel to the 2000 cult British gangster movie, which is set to premiere in 2023.
The series will track the origin story of the Gal Dove, Don Logan and Teddy Bass characters, played in the movie by Ray Winstone, Ben Kingsley and Ian McShane, respectively. It will explore Gal and Don’s complicated relationship as Gal finds himself descending into the seductive madness of the London criminal world during the vibrant and volatile 1990s, while falling in love with DeeDee.
James McArdle (Mare of Easttown) leads the cast as Gal Dove, with Emun Elliot (The Gold) starring as Don Logan, Gal’s best friend. The pair are small-town thieves living the good life in ‘90s East London.
Sarah Greene (Normal People) is Deedee, an adult film star with the potential to turn Gal’s whole life upside down.
