Amazon Prime, Banijay & Others Boarded For UK Apprentice Scheme
UK training body ScreenSkills is partnering with Amazon Prime Video, Banijay UK and a host of other big players to manage 40 apprentices, funded by an injection of government investment. Lime Pictures, Sky and Apx Content Ventures are also part of the scheme, which is one of 15 being funded by £5m worth of UK government money. Helped by ScreenSkills, the partners will take on Production Assistants, Production Accountants, Production Co-ordinators and Production Managers, roles in short supply due to a skills crisis that has hit the UK film and high-end TV industry in recent months as a multitude of high-end shows have entered production. The news comes a day after Amazon revealed it will be taking studio space at Pinewood’s Shepperton Studios in a multimillion pound 10-year deal. The first wave of apprentices will start in May and the second in September.

Sundance 2019: ‘Sonja: The White Swan’Review by Peter BelsitoSonja Henie (8 April 1912–12 October 1969) was a Norwegian figure skater and film star.
She was a three-time Olympic Champion(1928, 1932, 1936) in Ladies’ Singles, a ten-time World Champion (1927–1936) and a six-time European Champion (1931–1936). Henie won more Olympic and World titles than any other ladies’ figure skater.
At the height of her acting career, Sonja Henie was one of the highest-paid stars in Hollywood and starred in a series of box-office hits, including Thin Ice (1937), My Lucky Star (1938), Second Fiddle (1939) and Sun Valley Serenade (1941)
When the Norwegian figure skater arrived in Hollywood, she was a talent the industry had never seen before, or since — a three-time Olympic ladies’ singles champion (a record she continues to hold) whose chipper, if chilly romantic comedy hits kept Twentieth Century-Fox solvent in the build-up to World War II, in part because she phoned up her pal Joseph...

New joint collaboration aimed to boost visibility of Swedish films and co-produce new features.
Film i Väst, Nordisk Film and Swedish Television (Svt) are to team up to co-produce new feature film projects.
In a statement, the three bodies said they identified “a lack of projects of this type in the Swedish film market”.
Together, the trio will jointly promote the development and production of films that will consolidate and develop the Swedish film brand for the domestic and international audience.
Each approved project will be eligible for $3m (25m Swedish Kronor) from the three co-producers.
“Our effort can be seen as a vitamin shot into the Swedish film sector that needs to improve production values in order to reach a broader audience,” said Tomas Eskilsson, CEO of Film i Väst.
“The aim is to raise the market share of domestic film on the Swedish repertoire.”
