Justin Timberlake made an unexpected cameo on The Tonight Show Monday night, appearing in a short, silly bit entitled "Looks," in which he and Jimmy Fallon held an entire conversation without saying a word.
In a scene ostensibly ripped straight from a mid-2000s romantic comedy — down to the folksy soundtrack of Rogue Wave's 2005 cut "Eyes" — Fallon and Timberlake tilt their heads ever so slightly towards the slow-moving camera, bat their eyes and smile deeply at each other. Yet their looks speak volumes, communicating warmth, compassion, concern and understanding...

Justin Timberlake and Jimmy Fallon have officially taken their bromance to the next level. During The Tonight Show Monday, the comedic duo debuted a brand new sketch. No, they didn't do History of Rap 7. No, they didn't sing about a box. In fact, there was no sound at all—except for the mellow musical stylings of Rogue Wave's "Eyes" playing in the background. Instead, the talk show host and singer communicated only through a series of dramatic glances, akin to forbidden lovers stealing looks at each other from opposite ends of a room. After several intimate shots of the men hamming up their individual close-ups, the camera panned out, only to show that the...

Despite premiering to mixed reviews at the New York Film Festival earlier this fall (read our own take right here), Fox is still all in on the Ben Stiller-starring and helmed update of “The Secret Life Of Walter Mitty.” With the film hitting theaters next month, the details for film’s soundtrack have been released. Set to be released digitally a week before the film’s release date, the soundtrack will be a rather folksy affair with tracks from Of Monsters and Men, Grace Mitchell and new songs written for the film from Jose Gonzalez. And that's not all, Gonazlez's band Junip also have some cuts as does nice guy Jack Johnson, indie rockers Rogue Wave and the legendary David Bowie with a new mix of "Space Oddity" featuring Kristen Wiig. Yes, really. You can pre-order the soundtrack now and purchase the first single, Jose Gonzalez’s “Step Out” from iTunes.

We’re not sure what your college experience was like, but if you found romance while live action role-playing then you might find this video quite relatable. Rogue Wave released Nightingale Floors, their fifth studio album, in early June of this year and have now released a video for their single “College”. The video is equally as upbeat and lighthearted as the single is. Watch the band perform amidst an intense battle for the “mystical rogue talisman” in the player below. ...

While the Marvel mega merchandising and marketing machine has left no stone unturned, the soundtracks for their film have always been pretty random affairs. Last year's collection of tunes for "The Avengers" was hilariously out of touch with lots of meathead music, while the AC/DC powered tuneage for "Iron Man 2" was particularly uninspired. But it seems that for "Iron Man 3," the comic studio has hired some people who know a thing or two about what the kids want to hear and have pulled together a halfway respectable line up. Featuring "music from and inspired by" the superhero sequel (meaning you probably won't hear most of this in the actual movie), hipsters will approve of Passion Pit, Imagine Dragons and Rogue Wave making appearances. Dudes who still wanna rawk will get a tune from Andrew Stockdale of Wolfmother, tweens will scream for 3Oh!3 and those looking for some...

First up, the bad news: there is a noticeable lack of AC/DC on the "Iron Man 3" soundtrack. I guess the people behind the album figured that nothing could top the show-stopping inclusion of "Shoot To Thrill" in "Marvel's the Avengers" (one of the best moments in a film comprised entirely of best moments).
The good news is that this album has a healthy mix of selections from indie rock and alternative bands, including critical darlings Passion Pit and hot band Neon Trees. Check out the full tracklist and album art below.
1. "Ready Aim Fire" – Imagine Dragons
2. "Some Kind of Joke" – Awolnation

Despite oft-overlapping acts, massive music festivals have a tendency to always reflect their surroundings. No matter if Coachella is being headlined by a holographic Tupac or a bill brimming with early-90s Britpop nostalgia, the festival is always going to to feel like an outgrowth of Los Angeles--and be very different from Chicago's Lollapalooza.

With their self-titled debut Ep behind them, Churches is set to release a 7" on December 11. A wise man may have once said, “Our lives are nothing more than a series of reactions.” Everything we do is a response to something that has come before; we’re never satisfied, always pushing and searching for something more to inspire us or take us some place new. It’s a concept that often pops up in popular music—and the new project from Zach Rogue, songwriter/brains behind the underrated indie-pop outfit Rogue Wave, is a perfect example....

A summery, soulful vibe dominates the first half of the soundtrack to Friends With Benefits, the new comedy from Will Gluck which is unlikely to have a single review or article written about it that doesn’t mention Ivan Reitman’s conceptually identical No Strings Attached (hey, fulfilled my own prophecy there! Shaping the future. Yay me).
However just as the balmy heat and blue skies of summer can offer an irresistible environment for certain ill-advised behaviours (too much drinking, too much sun, spending your hard-earned money on a ticket for Green Lantern), so the early part of this tie-in album finds a number of classic songs receiving a refresh treatment that you’re not quite sure they ever really needed.

There.s nothing more cliché in Hollywood today than the run-of-the-mill romantic comedy, complete with a predictable structure, cheesy humor and sappy fairy tale romance. Friends With Benefits is the story of two cynical people who attempt to bypass all the typical pitfalls of a traditional relationship by agreeing to have a purely casual sexual relationship while maintaining a friendship and healthy professional relationship. Needless to say, this experiment is doomed.
Justin Timberlake (Social Network, Alpha Dog) plays Dylan, a talented and successful creative director for a small but profitable blog in Los Angeles. Mila Kunis (Black Swan, The Book Of Eli) plays Jamie, a corporate headhunter trying to convince Dylan to take a job with GQ magazine in New York. In the process, they become friends .with benefits,. but nothing more.
Friends With Benefits is directed by Will Gluck, a filmmaker now three-for-three in comedy. His first feature is the hilariously immature Fired Up!

Rogue Wave's Zach Rogue took off for Bloomington, Indiana last summer with little more than an acoustic guitar and some unfinished songs on his mind. His destination, the increasingly prolific Russian Recording, run by his pal Mike Bridavsky. Once there, Rogue, who's songs have been featured in "Napoleon Dynamite," "Heroes," and "Weeds," among other notable productions, put together an intimate collection of songs in a project he's called, Release The Sunbird.
Local collaborators, drummer Pete Shreiner, bassist/vocalist Kenny Childers and vocalist Kate Long helped Rogue lure out these sun dappled charms, a slight departure from Rogue Wave's more raucous last release, "Permalight." The album, titled "Come Back To Us" releases July 26th on Brushfire Records.

It's one thing for "No Strings Attached" and "Friends With Benefits" to feature carbon copy concepts, executed nearly exactly the same way, but it's downright eerie when those similarities cross over to the soundtrack as well. The tracklist for the fuckbuddy comedy "Friends With Benefits" has been revealed and you'd be forgiven if you thought the same music supervisor worked on both movies. Where 'Attached' had Color Me Badd, 'Benefits' has Kriss Kross. For an acoustic cover, 'Attached' had Hugo's "99 Problems" and 'Friends' has Grant Lee Phillips doing "Boys Don't Cry." Trailers are an under-appreciated art form insofar that many times they’re seen as vehicles for showing footage, explaining films away, or showing their hand about what moviegoers can expect. Foreign, domestic, independent, big budget: I celebrate all levels of trailers and hopefully this column will satisfactorily give you a baseline of what beta wave I’m operating on, because what better way to hone your skills as a thoughtful moviegoer than by deconstructing these little pieces of advertising? Some of the best authors will tell you that writing a short story is a lot harder than writing a long one, that you have to weigh every sentence. What better medium to see how this theory plays itself out beyond that than with movie trailers? Note bene: Those fools over at the JoBlo Movie Show Podcast decided it would be a good idea if I hung out for the night to talk about movies.

Every year around this time, the good folks behind Chicago's Lollapalooza finally unveil the daily schedule for the three-day festival by the lake. It's an occasion both exhilarating and heart-rending for ticket holders looking forward to 72 hours of musical nirvana in the shadow of the big city. It’s not surprising to see Rogue Wave in a different place than where the world last found it: The California outfit has consistently shifted its sonic priorities, going from souped-up indie-rock solo project on 2003’s Out Of The Shadow to big and dreamy on 2005’s Descended Like Vultures to dense (and unfortunately a bit lethargic) with 2007’s Asleep At Heaven’s Gate. Small-screen portable media players like iPods may be the all-time worst place to watch movies, but airplanes run a close second - so much so, in fact, that folks will often use that dubious option as a barometer for their interest in them. The truth is that I watched the majority of D Tour on an airplane because I had no other option, but it's a testament to the effectiveness of the film that I was inspired and moved to tears despite having to do so. A documentary about Rogue Wave drummer Pat Spurgeon dealing with the demands of a debilitating kidney disease, temporary or ineffective treatments, and the search for a permanent cure while meeting the demands of a grueling tour schedule, D Tour is a powerful, evocative and deeply personal story.

Director: Jim Granato Pat Spurgeon is a musician whose lifelong dream of being in a successful rock band is coming true with his band Rogue Wave. What is a romantic comedy, exactly? I’ll attempt to answer that briefly by explaining how I define a romantic comedy. Of course, there has to be romance and there has to be comedy, but more importantly the story needs to be primarily focused on the development of a romantic relationship. So, why do I bother to bring this up when it seems so obvious that Love Happens is a romantic comedy? Because it’s not.
So the film has romance and it has comedy, but the primary focus of the story is Not the romantic relationship between Aaron Eckhart and Jennifer Aniston, as the marketing of the film would have you believe. Love Happens is a much deeper story than the average rom-com, but for the sake of reviewing the film, we’ll just assume it fits nicely into my abnormally strict definition of what make a romantic comedy.

Expectations: I was worried the plot would not be serious enough, though I’m a big fan of Eckhart and Aniston is starting to grow on me.
Scorecard (0-10)
