How long does animation take? Well, it was all the way back in January of 2013 - i.e. a very, very long time ago - that we first brought word of The Absence Of Eddy Table, the Rune Spaans directed animated short based on teh writing and design work of cult comic artist Dave Cooper. And, yes, Spaans has gone and made a feature since then as well, which is a big part of why the short took so long but, hey, still if you're good at making pretty pictures and you want your pretty pictures to be both pretty And gross at the same time, then that takes a bit of time to do right. The Absence Of Eddy Table has done it right....

Norwegian cinema is garnering success abroad but attendance for national films has plummeted this year.
While Norwegian films are strong international performers, this year they face significant challenges at home, according to new figures released by the Norwegian Film Institute.
To date, attendance for local films has fallen considerably year-on-year and the industry now faces an uphill struggle to replicate the impressive 24% market-share achieved last year.
When the Norwegian Film Institute introduced the autumn season of local releases at Oslo’s Film House this week, the institute’s managing director Sindre Guldvog emphasised the international success of Norwegian cinema in 2015.
“For the first time in 36 years, Norway had a film in competition at Cannes - Joachim Trier’s Louder Than Bombs. And when France’s Les Arcs European Film Festival (December 12-19) will focus on Norway, it will be the fourth international showcase in 2015 with special programmes on Norway,” he said.

It was back in January of 2013 that we first brought word of The Absence Of Eddy Table, an animated short film based on the work of cult favorite comic artist Dave Cooper (Suckle, Weasel, Ripple) and directed by Trollhunter CGI artist Rune Spaans with Norwegian Ninja producer Eric Vogel and his company Tordenfilm producing. Well, animation takes a long time but the film is now deep into production and we've got the first trio of images to share and they are stunning. Very weird, very distinctive, and carrying such a natural sense of weight and detail to them that it's very hard to believe that this is a CGI production and not stop motion. I absolutely cannot wait to see these in motion. The...

Here is an awesome video mashup of Troll Hunter and Empire Strikes Back, called "Troll Hunter Strikes Back". The video was created by one of the movies visual effects artists, Rune Spaans. Here is what he had to say about the video:
One of the creatures in The Troll Hunter is missing an arm. When I first saw that, I knew I had to make this Empire tribute! What I've done is to take the scene from Empire Strikes Back, erase the existing characters, and then animate and re-composite the characters from Troll Hunter into the Empire footage. It's a pretty complex animation job, and it took me around three weeks of spare time to finish.
This is pretty epic. What are your thoughts?...

Do you like “Star Wars”? How about director André Øvredal’s “The Troll Hunter”? If so, are you ever in luck! Below you’ll find a sweet little project concocted by “The Troll Hunter” special effects wizard Rune Spaans which skillfully combines two of the aforementioned entities into one seriously cool video. Even if you haven’t seen the upcoming troll-oriented action flick, I’m sure you’ll appreciate the ingenuity behind this clip. I can’t say enough good things about it. Instead of trying to fit even more hyperbole into this wonky little article, I’ll simply direct your attention to the embedded clip and leave you to it. “The Troll Hunter” hits DVD and Blu-ray in the States on August 23rd, 2011. I haven’t had a chance yet to see Andre Ovredal’s Troll Hunter, but my colleagues have been giving it great reviews ever since it premiered over at Fantastic Fest. Hopefully it will be released theatrically soon here in Montreal. In the meantime you can check out Rune Spaans mash-up video. Apparently he has had access to all of the Troll Hunter raw footage and has mashed it up with some Star Wars clips in what he calls The Troll Hunter Strikes Back. Enjoy!

Andre Ovredal's Troll Hunter has been the darling of the festival circuit over the past year and has won raves on its limited Us release but Ovredal may have just been out done by one of his visual effects artists. You see, Rune Spaans is a man with an enormous amount of talent, access to all of the Troll Hunter raw materials and a deep and abiding love for Star Wars. And when you put those things together what you get is The Troll Hunter Strikes Back, an absolutely astounding fusion featuring Troll Hunter characters dropped into the finest moment of the Original Trilogy. Spaans describes it like this:One of the creatures in The Troll Hunter is missing an arm. When I first saw that,...
