- I look up and see a blur of faces of lights through the curtain as I mess with my dress and fix my hair. I think back to the first time, the last time, the next time this feeling will flow fully through my physical body without judging it or tensing up to control it. I am filled with a powerful force that vibrates and radiates from my body to others. The lights flicker. I am about to give not only the performance of my life but my whole self to an audience of strangers. They have never met me, nor do they know me, but based on what I do on stage will base their instincts of love or hate towards me. Singing, dancing or pretending to be another opens me up to be judged. It's a job you can only do if you are passionate and true. They can see through you if you're not. It is the spiritual energy in the room that can make you a star. It is the energy that creates stage presence and the magnetism to hold other's attention. That's my job - keep them, the strangers in the moment and make them believe you are hurting, loving, needing - what ever the emotion should be. I look down with a flow of worry - are my lines in my head? Will my voice project? Am I in tune? Have I warmed up enough? Black... darkness... silence. The curtains open and the ride begins - a journey of a lifetime... one you can never take back or change. One chance to prove. Every clap in the audience proves why I can and do this job. I am a performer and no one will ever understand the feeling on stage before open curtain unless you truly are passionate. Live theatre - I love it!
