Warning: spoilers for Jane the Virgin below!
If there's anything we can expect after five seasons of Jane the Virgin, it's a proper telenovela ending. As our well-loved narrator explains at the beginning of the series finale, "Chapter One Hundred," all telenovelas wrap up with a wedding, and fans have been waiting ages to see Jane Gloriana Villanueva and Rafael Solano tie the damn knot. Well, rest assured, "Jafael" fans, the wedding does occur. But in true Jane the Virgin fashion, there are some unexpected bumps in the road before the two take their romantic walk down the aisle!

After five seasons of melodrama and gasp-inducing twists, I’ve come to expect the unexpected from Jane the Virgin.
Jane is a heartfelt and joyful show about strong independent women, the power of family, and has even given a voice and platform to the Latinx community. But there’s no denying that at its core, it’s a telenovela.
It’s easy to forget or overlook those telenovela undertones because Jane does such a good job at inserting real and relatable emotions into impossible plots.
There’s been plenty of moments that make you go holy crap throughout the show’s run: evil twins, buried skeletons on the beach, and kidnapping attempts are all high up on the list.
But, as viewers know, even being aware of Jane’s track record with telenovela tropes couldn’t prepare us for the mammoth reveal at the end of Jane the Virgin Season...

A tearjerking romance is only as great as its two leads, and the subgenre has seen many pairings rise to the occasion over the years, be it Ali MacGraw and Ryan O’Neal in “Love Story” or Shailene Woodley and Ansel Elgort in “The Fault in Our Stars.” Next year, indie favorite Haley Lu Richardson and “Riverdale” star Cole Sprouse will try their hand at a romantic weepie with “Five Feet Apart,” and anyone familiar with the young performers know they shouldn’t have a problem tugging at the heartstrings.
“Five Feet Apart” stars Richardson and Sprouse as a pair of teenagers with cystic fibrosis who meet at a hospital and fall in love, despite the fact they aren’t allowed to be closer than five feet due to their illness. The romance is the feature directorial debut of Justin Baldoni, who is best known for playing Rafael Solano on...

Is a name change in order for “Jane the Virgin”? That’s not likely for the second-year CW show–but co-star Justin Baldoni, who plays Rafael Solano, thinks that the show’s leading lady may not warrant her titular description for too much longer. “I think in Season 2, you can expect a lot of drama,” he said. “It’s Jane the Virgin, but hopefully by the end of the season it’ll just be Jane, and the Virgin will be scratched out.” But is his comment a guess or a spoiler about Gina Rodriguez’s Jane Villaneuva, who at the end of the first season.

The cast of “Jane The Virgin” felt at home tackling illegal immigration in the magical realism of the CW’s telenovela. The series’ mid-season premiere Jan. 19 revolved around Jane’s abuelita Alba (Ivonne Coll), who faces deportation after a traumatic brain injury (she’s since recovered). “I represent thousands of immigrants who came to this country,” Coll said Sunday at PaleyFest L.A. Her Spanish-speaking character, “puts a face on all of the thousands of illegal immigrants who are here who aren’t criminals. I think we’re doing something important.” Others in the cast share Coll's sense of added pressure. Back in January, Gina Rodriguez said her Golden Globe win represented a “culture that wants to see themselves as heroes.” It was the CW’s first Globe win and has helped push the ensemble cast to new heights. “When you’re in a scene with Gina, it makes you better,...

Gina Rodriguez's (fake) belly is growing on "Jane the Virgin."
Access Hollywood's Liz Hernandez went behind-the-scenes on the set of the hit CW show with the Golden Globe winning actress while she filmed a fantasy dance sequence with onscreen boyfriend and the father of her baby, Rafael Solano (played by Justin Baldoni).
"To dance with the belly is so incredible… and it's a very lovely dance, so it's like invasive and it's there and it's wonderful," Gina told Liz. "And I just think about all the beautiful pregnant women that are dealing [with ...

Justin and Emily revealed the news when he posted a YouTube video on Wednesday that showed them taking inspiration from his television show. Is Jane a virgin no more?
On Monday’s episode of the CW series, the titular heroine has an epiphany: she’s unmarried and pregnant — her worst fear come true — so why wait to have sex, especially when she’s found the guy she plans to spend the rest of her life with?

Needless to say, her fiancé Michael is into the idea, and the big night is scheduled for at the hotel’s presidential suite (a gift from Petra). “Are you nervous?” he asks Jane in the next scene.
