Last year, New Regency went into production on a horror thriller called Psycho Killer, based on a screenplay written by Se7en scribe Andrew Kevin Walker. Gavin Polone, producer of Zombieland and the Walker-scripted 8Mm, was at the helm of the film, with Georgina Campbell (Barbarian) and Logan Miller (Escape Room) in lead roles and 6’5″+ former professional wrestler James Preston Rogers in the title role. The film has since made its way through post-production, and FilmRatings.com reports that it has officially earned an R rating for strong bloody violence, strong
sexual content, graphic nudity, drug use and language. So this one is sounding quite promising.
Campbell is taking on the role of Jane Thorne, a police officer who makes it her mission to take down a serial killer referred to on the news as the ‘Satanic Slasher,’ following the murder of her state trooper husband.

When director Tim Story’s horror comedy The Blackening was released back in June, co-writer and star Dewayne Perkins told Variety that he envisioned the film being the start of a franchise, one that could bring back the “same group, sprinkle in some new people. I feel like we’ve got something good, and I love the dynamic, but fresh blood always turns things up a little bit.” Now Variety has confirmed that a sequel to The Blackening is officially in development!
The Blackening didn’t exactly set the box office of fire, earning just $18.5 million… but since the movie had a budget of $3 million (plus another $2 million for marketing), that’s enough for producer MRC and domestic distributor Lionsgate to feel that it’s worth going back to for a sequel. They’re developing the follow-up with Perkins, co-writer Tracy Oliver, and producer E. Brian Dobbins.

A group of college friends gather at a cabin in the woods, for a weekend reunion of sorts. What could go wrong? Well, we know what could go wrong, but the twist in the comedy-horror film The Blackening is the all-black cast and the comedy-horror film’s determined satiric skewering of that old horror film knack for killing off the Black character first. But like the film’s tagline says, they can’t all die first.
In fact, The Blackening leans much more into satiric comedy than horror, having fun with every little horror trope, not just the racist ones. But it does whittle down the group of friends as it goes and provides some jump scares. On one level, the humor is...

Redbox is releasing its first-ever “original” title this month: “Benjamin,” an R-rated dark comedy directed by and starring Bob Saget about a family dealing with a teen’s drug addiction.
The DVD-rental kiosk operator is calling Saget’s indie film a “Redbox Original.” What that means: Redbox has rights to an exclusive 90-day window on “Benjamin,” to be available starting April 23, both to rent at its network of U.S. kiosks and to rent or purchase through its Redbox On Demand streaming service.
In “Benjamin,” a family calls an intervention via Facebook for Saget’s on-screen son, Benjamin (Max Burkholder), a 15-year-old they suspect of having a drug habit. It soon becomes clear that those confronting Benjamin’s problems have many problems of their own.
In addition to Saget, the cast of “Benjamin” includes Rob Corddry, Mary Lynn Rajskub, Kevin Pollak, Peri Gilpin, Dave Foley, Cheri Oteri, Max Burkholder, Clara Mamet,...

The trailer of Jonathan Sobol's A Beginner's Guide to Endings is already online. The film is currently being screened at the Toronto International Film Festival.
According to the Tiff, here's the story:
Duke White (Harvey Keitel) hasn’t been an ideal father to his five boys. An inveterate gambler who never experienced a windfall he couldn’t blow within twenty-four hours, he has come to the end of his rope, literally. Years ago, he signed up his three eldest sons for unsafe drug tests that turned out to have dire consequences: the boys’ life expectancy have been substantially reduced. Upon receiving the news after their father’s funeral, the sons return to their family home in Niagara Falls, where they respond to their eminent demises in different yet equally hilarious ways.
Womanizing Cal (Scott Caan) is determined to hook up with Miranda (Tricia Helfer), the one girl who got away.

Back in September, it was announced that the secret comic book movie project that "Sherlock Holmes" director Guy Ritchie has been circling was not in fact, "Sgt. Rock," as many had suspected. Instead of directing a film about an American war hero, Ritchie would get behind the camera for "Lobo" — a movie based on the adventures of DC's violent, white-skinned alien bounty hunter.
However, the reports of Ritchie's attachment to the project could be a bit premature, as he told MTV News during the recent "Sherlock Holmes" junket in London.
"Is it a matter of fact that I'm doing it?" Ritchie asked when told of reports framing his participation in "Lobo" as a done deal. "I don't think it's a matter of fact. In fact, I can tell you it's not a matter of fact."
Supremely evasive when asked for clarification, Ritchie seemed intent on keeping the status of "Lobo...

“We’re working on ‘Lobo’ now,” said Silver during an interview with Collider. “I was looking at a test we made and I was seeing it through the eyes of [the San Diego] Comic-Con — through the eyes of that audience. It’s important to know that that audience is the biggest in the world. That’s the audience that you want to get.”
Back in September, Jeffery Dean Morgan — perhaps best known to comic fans as The Comedian in Zack Snyder’s adaptation of “Watchmen” — stated that he wants to portray Lobo while on the set of his most recent film, “The Losers.” However, Morgan...

James Preston Rogers might have won the MTV Splash Page readers' poll for favorite actors to play Lobo in Guy Ritchie's new film, but Anthrax lead guitarist Scott Ian, who's currently writing DC's "Lobo: Highway to Hell" miniseries, has a pick many readers probably haven't considered. But Ian didn't even blink before suggesting a name out of left field.
"Yeah, this guy named Matt Willig," Ian told MTV News. "He's an ex-football player who's gotten into acting and if you watch 'Dexter' he played a guy named [Little Chino]."
Willig spent nearly 14 seasons in the NFL, according to NFL.com, before leaving for roles in TV shows like "Dexter," "CSI" and eventually a part in the Jack Black and Michael Cera comedy "Year One."
"He's like seven feet tall, and I think he would be perfect," Ian said. Willig definitely has the size. IMDb lists him at just over...

The poll results are arriving a day late this week due to yesterday's glut of comic book movie news, but we're not ones to complain about a good thing when it comes to updates on projects like "Thor," "Iron Man 2" and "Spider-Man 4." However, it's an entirely different sort of comic book movie that we asked fans to cast last week—and much like our Wonder Woman poll from a while back, the winner of our "Lobo" casting poll has a loyal fan following that played no small part in determining the winner.
In the end, former "Thor" hopeful James Preston Rogers was named MTV readers' favorite choice for the role of DC's Main Man, Lobo. The musclebound actor is probably best known for his role as a hulking barbarian in the vikings-vs-aliens film "Outlander," but he was also the subject of an extremely active fan campaign to cast him...

It's been a long, hard slog to the finish line but according to Thor director, Kenneth Branagh, the Marvel Studios film is now in the final stages of casting it's lead!
There has been much speculation as to who will wield Thor's legendary hammer, with names such as Charlie Hunnam, Alexander Skarsgård, James Preston Rogers and Daniel Craig all taking turns as the media's "number 1 contender" so who exactly is in the running? Can Mr Branagh enlighten us further?
“We’re down to the final stages of it,” Branagh told MTV News of the “Thor” casting timeline. “The reason one has to be properly diplomatic, is simply that some talented peopled have been patient, kind, creative and really committed to working with us in this process.”“My reluctance to say anything about it is simply out of respect for people who have been extremely respectful of us,” continued Branagh.

Director Kenneth Branagh says that he is down to the final stages of selecting an actor to wield the mighty hammer of Thor in the upcoming Marvel Studios movie.
The film will be based on Marvel's comic book version of the Norse thunder god, who has an earthly alias as disabled doctor Donald Blake.
Branagh said: "We're down to the final stages of [casting]. The reason one has to be properly diplomatic, is simply that some talented peopled have been patient, kind, creative and really committed to working with us in this process.
"I think we are extremely close and I hope to announce a decision sooner rather than later."
Asked by MTV what he was looking for in the character, Branagh responded: "There's a massive fan base out there of devotees, enthusiasts and real experts who have all the answers to that.
"All I can say is that I bear...

While there’s still some uncertainty about exactly when the Kenneth Branagh-directed “Thor” will be hitting theaters, there’s even less know about who will be wielding the mighty hammer Mjolnir on the big screen. There’s been no shortage of casting rumors and teases from various actors and “Thor” filmmakers, so when Branagh dropped by MTV to discuss his PBS miniseries “Wallander,” we had to throw in a few questions about that other little project on his plate.

Canadian actor James Preston Rogers says he would be an ideal choice for the role of Thor in the planned movie to be directed by Kenneth Branagh.
The 6ft 6ins former WWE wrestler played a Viking in Outlander and is keen to step into the role of the Norse thunder god who features in Marvel's comic books.
Various petitions on Facebook, MySpace, petitionsonline and YouTube back him for the role.
The 36-year-old told Popdose: "Thor is one of the most complete characters that I may ever play, being 6′6″. There's more to him than, say, Conan or He-Man. His is a true character arc. Maybe as close as I'll get to playing Hamlet, especially with Branagh attached to the project."
He added: "I'm a team player and would do whatever it took to make the best product possible. Believe me!"
Rogers has been campaigning for the role for some time. In February,...

James Preston Rogers has worked as a bouncer, wrestler, actor, Canadian Tire employee, and soon, he hopes he can add god of thunder to his resume. The six-foot-six blonde Brampton, Ontario native is vying to play the mythological Norse superhero in the 2011 Marvel Studios film "Thor." But he realizes that he's at a disadvantage when compared to the other hopefuls like Alexander Skarsgard, who was recently spotted with director Kenneth Branagh. "I mean he's in La, he's right next door to the guy and they can go for lunch and hang out," Rogers told The National Post. "I'm up in Toronto, so it's a little bit more difficult for me up here." Rogers has some Viking training. He plays Bjorn in the recently released sci-fi film "Outlander" starring James Caviezel and Ron Perlman. His acting experience also includes multiple TV roles and a part alongside Woody Harrelson and Sandra Oh in "Defendor,...

After twittering online that Kenneth Branagh "gets" Thor, Marvel Comics Editor-in-Chief Joe Quesada went on the record about the Thor movie meetings at the New York Comic-Con and talked about the "faithful" adaptation that Branagh is planning:
[Branagh] has immersed himself in [the comics]... He was talking about characters and villains that even I was going, like, who was that?, y'know. But if you're a Thor-head, you're going to go, oh yeah, of course... So it was wonderful to hear this stuff. He wasn't just concerned about Thor, but he also understood going in, from the beginning - because we established very early on... Well, at the end of the Iron Man movie, but very early on [in the process], that there's going to be other movies that become part of this tapestry. This is essentially our Star Wars, our universe is our Star Wars, and he understands that his Thor movie is one of...
