High on Fire have unveiled the video for “Cometh the Storm,” the title track from their new album arriving next Friday (April 19th).
The six-minute track opens with a subdued intro that’s guided by bassist/guitarist Jeff Matz. Much like the calm before the storm in question, Matz’s phrases slowly lead the arrangement to a bombastic chorus, as Coady Willis’ drumming picks up and the bellows of frontman Matt Pike assume a towering presence.

The confection of Matz and Pike’s thick, bass-y guitar tones are at the crux of these massive drops and dynamic peaks, which culminate in a satiating, late-track sludge breakdown. And it was Matz who broke ground on the composition of the song while noodling on his bass in the practice room.
“‘Cometh the Storm’ was built from a riff I started playing on bass at practice,” said Matz in a press release.

We do loves us some Phil Mucci 'round these parts. Over the years we have loved, and written about, his short films and music videos. We don't cover a ton of music video work here at Twitch but we make exceptions for directors we like. And we really, really like Phil Mucci whose work we've covered both as a music video director and in short films. And Mucci's bringing his distinctive style to his new video for Monster Magnet's The Duke, which has freshly arrived online. All sorts of nods to classic exploitation genres lie within. Take a look below. And enough with the video work, Phil ... I know it pays the bills and all but it's past time for a feature ......

The Jumpcut Cafe has long been the hangout spot for the horror crowd in Hollywood, and for very good reason. Not only does the cafe feature screenings of both popular and hard to find classic horror films, but it also showcases new films by some of the most exciting young talents working in Hollywood today. Curator Elric Kane has a very eclectic taste in movies, and is a smart programmer who reaches far into the indie horror community find the best, most cutting-edge short films possible. What follows are my favorite films of the night, in no particular order.
Far Out, directed by Phil Mucci, opened the night. Far Out is a, well, far out vampire flick that takes place during the swinging sixties. The film perfectly captures the mood and look of a space age, mod bachelor pad shindig. Far out is a fun, at times...

Playing off the look of Mr. Mucci's last video (for stoner gods High On Fire) comes this 2001 / Conquest Of The Planet Of The Apes inspired clip for grinders Pig Destroyer. Like the hard stuff or not, this visually arresting clip is an orgasm of color and bad ass content. To quote my good pal Marc Nocerino "Phil Mucci delivers yet again. This psychedelic bloodbath is both beautiful and horrific, while managing to convey an intelligent commentary.Whether or not you like grindcore, watch this video to see just how Good videos can be."You have been warned. Now be enlightened. And if you 'aint at work? Play Loud!...

It's no secret I am a huge fan of short film/video director Phil Mucci. His narratives The Listening Dead and Far Out remain at the top of my favorites, and his videos for bands such as Korn, Halestorm, and Opeth (whose clip The Devil's Orchard was actually included in the hallowed Fantasia Film Festival this year, a first) have all helped give those acts a solid visual identity. Now Mucci really brings his current visual style to another level this time around. An unholy mix of color and tone that comes off like Kenneth Anger, Russ Meyer, Mario Bava Richard Corben and Frank Frazetta all hanging out as they to Cheech and Chong and Black Sabbath records. The loose narrative involves the time traveling brother...

The 14th annual Boston Underground Film Festival is ready to kick ass and take names on March 29 to April 1 at the Brattle Theatre. And a few of those names will look familiar to Buff fanatics — and underground film fans the world over.
A trio of Buff favorites are returning to the fest with debut feature films after totally killing it with their amazing short films in the past. Jamie Heinrich‘s Happily Never After is a feature-length expansion of the short film that took home the Best of Fest Award in 2010, but with more solid and mature themes as the movie explores the problematic life of a degenerate photographer.
Another former award winner is Richard Bates Jr. who will be screening Excision, another feature-length extension of a short film, this one about a teenage girl who exercises her morbid obsession with surgery every chance she gets.
Steven Kostanski‘s feature...

We love opinions here at Twitch. Even more, we love educated opinions, to paraphrase writer Harlan Ellison. This is the first of occasional columns where working filmmakers get a chance to speak out on films that have influenced them, made them think, pissed them off, made them laugh...movies they feel something for. So to jump right in, meet our first guest -Writer/director Phil Mucci is an award winning film maker, with short films like The Listening Dead and Far Out under his belt. He is also a sought after rock photographer/video director whose past clients have included Green Day, Korn, My Chemical Romance, and Opeth.First and foremost though, Mr. Mucci is a film addict of immeasurable proportions. As a film fan, I love short films for the same reason I enjoy short stories -- I get almost instant gratification with little investment of time, and then it's on to the next short. The stories and films might seem easier to forget, but that's not the case when a good story can be told in fifteen minutes or less. Such is the case with several short films I've seen over the years at South by Southwest Film Festival and Fantastic Fest. In the past it was difficult to see these films outside of a film festival, but thanks to the Internet more short films are available to a larger audience.
The most memorable shorts I've enjoyed were those I viewed at Fantastic Fest from 2006-2009, including Phil Mucci's gothic horror film The Listening Dead (view after the jump) which won the Short Film Jury Award for Best...

This past August 28th saw the San Diego debut of the Blacklist Art and Film Festival, and your local Dread Central staff members were on hand for the event. We're happy to report a good time was had by all, and even though we'd seen a couple of the horror shorts shown during the film fest portion already, they really popped thanks to the enthusiastic crowd.

I receive updates every few months from photographer and filmmaker Phil Mucci, whom I met in 2006. Phil's short horror film The Listening Dead took the Best of Show award for short films at Fantastic Fest that year. Four years after its initial release, this short film has been translated into eight different languages. Phil has just announced that a "behind the scenes" short film on The Listening Dead is now available and can be viewed on his website. You can also watch his videos and short films, including Far Out, which screened at Fantastic Fest 2007.

Phil Mucci, pinball kingpin, pusherman, and director extraordinaire dropped a line in my mail box tonight that flipped me out in proper fashion. I'll let the release speak for itself.
""The Listening Dead", your favorite silent short film, is about to break the dimensional barrier! That's right, dear readers, "Tld", the little short film that could, is going 3-D!
A moment of silence to let that sink in...
Yes! 3-D Film Factory in San Diego has acquired the rights to convert "The Listening Dead" into stunning, eye-popping 3D, an expensive process to be sure, but one that will breathe new life into the film that just won't die! With any luck, "Tld" 3D will be hitting selected theaters and festivals as early as this Halloween! How's that for a piping hot slice of totally awesome?"
Can I get a "Hells yaw!!!"?
Anyone who has seen Mucci's short film already knows...
