Dickey Betts, the singer, songwriter, and guitarist of the Allman Brothers Band whose piercing solos, beloved songs and hell-raising spirit defined the band and Southern rock in general, died Thursday morning at the age of 80. The cause was cancer and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, Betts’ manager David Spero confirmed to Rolling Stone.
“It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that the Betts family announce the peaceful passing of Forrest Richard ‘Dickey’ Betts (December 12, 1943 – April 18, 2024) at the age of 80 years old,” Betts’ family announced in a statement to Rolling Stone.

Eric Carmen, who was the frontman of power pop band The Raspberries before going on to solo success, has died at 74.
His wife, Amy Carmen, posted the news on the singer’s website. He apparently died in his sleep during the weekend, but no other details were given.
“It is with tremendous sadness that we share the heartbreaking news of the passing of Eric Carmen,” she wrote. “Our sweet, loving and talented Eric passed away in his sleep, over the weekend. It brought him great joy to know, that for decades, his music touched so many and will be his lasting legacy. Please respect the family’s privacy as we mourn our enormous loss. ‘Love Is All That Matters… Faithful and Forever.’”
Carmen was born on August 11, 1949, in the Cleveland suburbs. He first rose to fame with the Raspberries’ 1972 breakout hit, “Go All the Way,” which hit No. 5 on the Billboard Hot 100 and in Canada.

Dickey Betts has postponed his upcoming concerts after the former Allman Brothers Band guitarist suffered what doctors diagnosed as a “mild stroke.”
“Yesterday, after describing to his physicians certain post-stroke repercussions, [Betts] was strongly advised to give himself more time to recuperate,” the Dickey Betts Band’s website alerted fans. “Doctors have assured Betts that after three to five weeks he will be 100 percent recovered and can resume his touring schedule.”

Most people assumed that Buffalo Springfield’s reunion at last month’s Bridge School Benefit — Neil Young, Stephen Stills and Richie Furay’s first performance together in 42 years — would be a one-time event, but it turns out they are contemplating a tour next year. The Los Angeles Times’ Pop & Hiss blog reported Monday that they were “hearing rumblings” that the band was contemplating a tour, which has now been confirmed to Rolling Stone by David Spero, who manages Furay. “There are on-going discussions,” he said, when asked about the possibility of a tour.
