Hans de Roos

Hans Corneel de Roos is a Dutch actor, photographer, video producer, scholar, translator and author. Born in Indonesia in 1956 as a son of Dutch parents, he grew up in The Hague and Amsterdam. He played his role in "Wassen en föhnen" while he was still in high school. Later, he studied Political and Social Sciences in Amsterdam and Berlin, graduated cum laude in 1982, and made a career in public administration and financial services, while simultaneously being active as an actor, artist and scholar. From 1986 till 2017, he lived in Munich and played the lead role in the award-winning interactive video installation "Standing Ovation" by Czech artist Jakub Moravek, produced at the Munich Praterinsel in February 2001. In 2011-2012, He created "The Ultimate Dracula" (Munich: Moonlake Editions, 2012), the first full-length photo story based on Bram Stoker's novel, next to numerous other photo projects. In 2017, his book "Powers of Darkness" was published (New York: Overlook/Abrams), an annotated translation of an early Icelandic adaptation of "Dracula." Since 2017, he is mostly active as a photographer, author and independent scholar on Bantayan Island, Philippines. Married to Richie de Roos, with two adult sons from a previous relationship, a young daughter, and a new baby on the way.
