CBS News is launching CBS Village, a multiplatform franchise for news division content about diverse groups, while it has made more additions to its newly formed race and culture unit.
CBS Village will be a brand dedicated to content about a diversity of communities, including Black, Asian, Lgbqt, LatinX, women and millennials.
Kim Godwin, executive vice president of news, said that their “hope is that by spotlighting this cross-section of our coverage across all of our platforms, we’ll help audiences connect the dots in these stories involving race, gender and identity and bring a richer understanding to the national conversation around the problems, progress, and potential our nation faces.”
The network recently formed a race and culture unit, led by Alvin Patrick, and have recently added three journalists. CBS News producer Marcelena Spencer is joining as senior producer; CBS News producer Bonita Sostre will be coordinating producer; and Harry Forbes will be broadcast associate.

So I wake up after tossing and turning all night over the Coronavirus crisis, tune into CBS News This Morning, and there are hosts Mary Calvi and Chris Wragge standing in the pouring rain, the awning for the CBS Broadcast Center in the background. They are talking about how the building – the New York nerve center for numerous network and local newscasts – is shut again for precautionary reasons. Closed last week after people began testing positive for Covid-19, the building began to reopen with skeleton crews, but now it’s closed again. The local anchors cut to La-based Hermela Aregawi, who quarterbacked the newscast and introduced numerous CBS News This Morning journalists, all standing in the rain, in streets all over New York.
While it is surreal to imagine the CBS Broadcast Center has become a prop – Wcbs-tv anchors Maurice DuBois and Kristine Johnson also did last night’s local...

Update: The CBS Broadcast Center in New York is slowly coming back to life even after a fourth worker tested positive for coronavirus on Friday. The drama has been playing out since Wednesday, when two employees at CBS Network News showed symptoms and tested positive. The whole building was disinfected and they’re trying to get it working as best they can. The busy production hub impacts numerous shows, including CBS Evening News, 60 Minutes, CBS Sunday Morning, Inside Edition and the local New York Evening broadcasts. Give the network credit for being changeable in crisis: the network news and CBS This Morning was quarterbacked from DC, while Deborah Norville hosted Inside Edition from her kitchen. The situation is fluid but the hope was to slowly integrate production back in the broadcast center this weekend, taking every precaution possible and getting everyone out when they’ve completed the newscasts. Here...

The debate was nasty even before it started. Actress-turned-politician Cynthia Nixon wanted the temperature in the debate hall at Hofstra University to be 76 degrees, apparently because Governor Andrew Cuomo “likes a cold room.” She also asked for a debate format that involved the two candidates standing.
Instead, both candidates were seated, would not shake hands and were backdropped by drapery — Cuomo’s preferred press conference setting.
“I was really looking forward to going toe-to-toe with Andrew Cuomo” Nixon said. “I guess we’ll be going tush-to-tush.”

Cynthia Nixon came out swinging against New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo Wednesday night during the pair’s first and only debate before the Empire State holds its gubernatorial primary election on Sept. 13.
Nixon, the “Sex and the City” alum who is making her first run for political office, repeatedly called the two-term incumbent a “liar” and “corrupt.” The two parried over the state of New York’s overburdened subway system, the legalization of marijuana, the dearth of affordable housing, and how to deal with the state’s homeless population. The hourlong face off was sponsored by CBS O&O Wcbs-tv New York and held at Hofstra University on Long Island.
Cuomo at times seemed to be running against President Donald Trump more than his liberal challenger for power in Albany. Cuomo repeatedly invoked the threats posed by Trump and cast himself and New York state as a ballast against the White House’s conservative agenda.
