It's no secret that I didn't like what Paramount Pictures did with the G.I. Joe franchise at all. I grew up on all things G.I. Joe, that franchise was my favorite thing as a kid and I still love it. Unfortunately, the studio handled the property completely wrong. I've always felt that the franchise needed a complete overhaul, and now the studio is moving forward with it. I just don't know if what they are planning will be any better than what they've already done.
During an interview with La Times, it's explained that Paramount has big plans for rebooting the G.I. Joe franchise with "a revamped look intended to appeal to younger audiences." Simon Waters, who oversees consumer products at Hasbro Studios, said that they want to take "a more millennial approach." He explains:

I’ve been a fan of G.I. Joe for my whole life. I had a ton of the toys and I enjoyed watching the animated series in the 1980s. It’s such a great franchise, but that franchise is pretty much dead now. Paramount Pictures made sure to help kill it off with the awful films that they made. Those G.I. Joe movies should have been amazingly awesome in every way! Instead, we just got mediocre crap that didn’t do the franchise any justice at all.
The studio has been in the process of developing a third film, but I doubt it will be any better than what we saw in the first two. They just need to start from scratch, overhaul the franchise, and pretend that the other films never happened. The last I heard, the studio had set up a writers room to try and...

The Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice trailer hit and I know most people are going to focus on the Batman and Superman part, and for sure there are some easter eggs and tidbits I want to get into at a later date but as a person who is definitely going to watch the movie but wasn’t really moved by the teaser released earlier in the year, it was really Wonder Woman that stole the trailer for me.
I guess it’s not exactly shocking that a guy would zero in on Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, and while she’s sexy as hell, and that’s part of it, but I’m more coming at it from a perspective of I’ve never seen Wonder Woman in a movie before and, like everyone else, seen a ton, maybe too many Superman and Batman movies. For this reason I...

Back in 1987 fans of G.I. Joe got an animated film that has gone on to become a pretty divisive movie during a time which was probably the height of the popularity for the G.I. Joe brand. Much like the Transformers animated film from the previous year it can quite plainly be seen as a feature length commercial for a new wave, maybe even a generation of characters. I was overseas as a kid when it was released and when one of my friends got this on VHS it was Huge news in my circle, a part of a close knit U.S. military community in Italy. Back then it was just awesome and when you click it on now you realize that the intro remains one of the best in cartoon history. Yes, there was a time when you watched this and afterwards you wanted and waited for a Pythona figure,...

Paramount may have finally found a director for G.I. Joe 3. After G.I. Joe: Retaliation helmer Jon M. Chu jumped ship to make Jem and the Holograms for Blumhouse, the studio scrambled to find a replacement, with Casino Royale director Martin Campbell‘s name at one point ending up in the mix before he moved along. Now, though, Deadline is reporting that Disturbia director D.J. Caruso is in “early discussions” to take over the blockbuster franchise.
THR adds that, before a deal could be reached, Caruso would have to receive a stamp of approval from franchise star Dwayne Johnson, currently the only actor confirmed to return for the threequel. It makes sense that Ray Park’s Snake Eyes, Adrianne Palicki’s Lady Jaye, D.J. Cotrona’s Flint and Elodie Yung’s Jinx would all make appearances in G.I. Joe 3, but whether screenwriter Jonathan Lemkin will see fit to introduce...

"Casino Royale" and "Green Lantern" director Martin Campbell is reportedly the top choice of both Paramount Pictures and producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura to take the helm of a third film in the "G.I. Joe" series according to Schmoes Know. Filming is aiming to begin in the first half of next year.
The site claims official negotiations have not yet begun, but the job is essentially Campbell's if he wants it. Jonathan Lemkin ("Devil's Advocate," "Lethal Weapon 4") is penning the script which will center on Dwayne Johnson's character Roadblock. Adrianne Palicki is also expected to reprise her role as Lady Jaye.
In more concrete news, Deadline reports that Disney has set "Get Smart" helmer Peter Segal to direct the film adaptation of the children's book "Goblins" by Ari Berk and acclaimed illustrator Brian Froud. Tom Astle & Matt Ember will script the adaptation, while Sagal and Michael Ewing will produce.

Although playing Wonder Woman didn't work out for "Friday Night Lights" vet Adrianne Palicki, she'll get her chance to play a different comic book heroine in the upcoming second season of "Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." Palicki has signed on for a guest appearance on the ABC series as top spy Bobbi Morse, also known as Mockingbird, according to The Hollywood Reporter. So far, Palicki is only set to appear in episode 5, but she may be retuning in future installments. Marvel Comics fans know that Mockingbird and Hawkeye were married, so could a cameo from Jeremy Renner (who played Hawkeye in "The Avengers") be in the cards? "S.H.I.E.L.D." co-star Patton Oswalt teased the addition of Morse at the San Diego Comic-Con last month. Watch below: Palicki has some previous experience with superheroes; she played Wonder Woman in a 2011 pilot produced by David E. Kelley,...

After G.I. Joe: Retaliation scored at the box office and earned less scorn than its predecessor G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra, a third installment was almost inevitable. And now that Skydance and Paramount have set G.I. Joe 3 for release in 2016, the studios are working on putting together a team for the tentpole. Today brings news that Lethal Weapon 4 scribe Jonathan Lemkin has been tapped to pen the screenplay.
Though most of Lemkin’s work has been on the small screen, with writing credits on series like Hill Street Blues and 21 Jump Street, the scribe previously penned The Devil’s Advocate and Shooter. Lemkin is also adapting survival drama The Longest Night from a GQ article of the same name for Frank Marshall to direct.

Between "Friday Night Lights," her current gig on "From Dusk Till Dawn" and an upcoming role on "About a Boy," Adrianne Palicki just can't get away from TV shows based on popular films."It's weird right? Thankfully they've all done really well, which is great," the actress tells toofab's Brian Particelli. "It's always scary venturing into that world. I remember when 'Friday Night Lights' came around, I was like 'I don't know, it's about football.' Now, I love football, but sports shows don't tend to do well, and it's based on a movie, another thing that doesn't do well.""It ended up being the greatest thing I've ever done," she says. "So now I'm like, alright, it was a great movie? It'll probably be a great TV show, I will do it!"Palicki will appear on tonight's episode of "From Dusk Till Dawn" on the El Rey network,...

While she's carved out something of a name for herself in action films, former "Friday Night Lights" star Adrianne Palicki was also briefly known as the new Wonder Woman.
Of course that David E. Kelley-produced NBC pilot about the famed Amazonian failed to get past the stage, the pilot never making it to air. Palicki remains proud she got selected to play the role, and was recently asked by IGN if she regreted that the series didn’t move forward:
"I wouldn’t say regret. I was devastated when it didn’t go and it was expected to. It was one of those things that was shocking. But in retrospect it was probably a blessing. It would’ve been a really hard thing to shoot.
And I got to wear the costume -- I should say, I got paid to wear the costume! So not many people get to say that.

G.I. Joe: Retaliation, otherwise known as G.I. Joe: Forget About The Rise of Cobra, recently came out on DVD, Blu-Ray, possibly VHS in some Eastern European countries, and On Demand. After demanding it and then re-watching if for the second time after seeing it in theaters earlier this summer, I remembered that Man it’s a fun movie. But two things were consistently nagging at me throughout the experience. Two things that I probably only noticed on a subconcious level the first time around, which I believe may have held it back from being not just a fun movie, but a great movie.

Back in the 1960s, like most boys, I had at least G.I. Joe action figure. They were cool but maybe not as cool as Captain Action, which followed two years later. Of course, both faded away over time until the Joe concept was revised by Hasbro. Working with Larry Hama and Marvel Comics, the idea was expanded, the figures scaled down and a phenomenon was born.
Given the wild success of the toys, the animated series, and the long-running comic, I remain baffled why it took until 2009 before a live-action film was made. Here were all the kids’ favorite good guys and bad guys brought to life, looking sleek and cool and yes, sexy. The film was a smash success so of course the wait for a sequel began immediately.

G.I. Joe: Retaliation has been in UK cinemas for a little over week now and I’m only just getting round to my review. Why? Well I wanted to see the film a few times before putting anything down on (virtual) paper, as I wanted to make sure my first instincts were right. And they were… I’m disappointed.
I was expecting great things from G.I. Joe: Retaliation and maybe that’s the problem. As a huge fan of the original movie (I can safely say that amongst the movie bloggers I read and am acquainted with I am seriously in the minority when I say that) I was looking forward to what looked to be,...

Adrianne Palicki has suggested that her GI Joe: Retaliation character Lady Jaye is a hero for girls.
The actress revealed to Flicks and Bits that women can relate to Lady Jaye because she is both "sassy" and "vulnerable".
"For me, the great thing about Lady Jaye in this movie is that she's somebody that girls can look up to," Palicki explained. "It's such a well-rounded part, because she gets to be funny, she gets to be sassy, she gets to be the intelligence of the group, she's a sharpshooter, and she also gets to be feminine, she gets to be vulnerable."
Palicki went on to say: "It was a great opportunity as an actor to play these different facets. She does have a bit of a chip on her shoulder, she is in this group of guys.
"She has a bit of sass to her and a strength in having to constantly prove herself.

Let's go Joe! Feeling more like reboot than a sequel, G.I. Joe Retaliation stars Dwayne Johnson as Roadblock who takes command of the Real American Heroes after a set-up leaves many soldiers dead and the remaining on the run from their own country. Returning from the first film: Channing Tatum as Duke, masked butt-kicker Ray Park as Snake Eyes and Jonathan Pryce as the president. Newcomers Adrianne Palicki as Lady Jaye and D.J. Cotrona as Flint just follow orders. As a movie, Retaliation is popcorn fun, ditching Rise of the Cobra's misplaced serious tone for a more straightforward sense of honor and duty. Of course Roadblock gets a chance to return to his old stomping ground to get back to the basics! Why...

New GI Joe 2,Retaliation movie sequel in the works,so GI Joe 3 is on the way. According to a new report from Comicbookmovie.com, the recent "G.I. Joe 2: Retaliation" flick did very well at the box office this weekend with $132 million dollars in ticket sales over the opening weekend! So, as we know, money talks, and Paramount Pictures definitely wants to move ahead with another sequel,so you guys can get ready to see a G.I. Joe 3 movie in the future. Andrew Stewart over at Variety tweeted, "Yo Joe! After a $132 mil opening for G.I. Joe: Retaliation, Paramount said it will move forward with a third Joe." I actually saw the movie, myself, and I thought it was really good. I personally liked the first installment better, but this one was still no slouch by any means. It also served up plenty of eye candy with the...

New GI Joe 2,Retaliation movie delivered great action, stunts,& more. Paramount Pictures released their new action flick, "G.I. Joe 2: Retaliation" this weekend. I just checked it out and thought it was highly entertaining, serving up a ton of action and stunts that just never stopped. The movie stars: D.J. Cotrona, Byung-hun Lee, Adrianne Palicki, Ray Park, Jonathan Pryce, Ray Stevenson, Channing Tatum, Bruce Willis, and Dwayne Johnson. In the new flick, the evil Zartan ,disguised himself as the President of the United States to help bring the Cobra destruction plan into fruition. His first orders were to use the Presidential power to order and attack on the G.I. Joe team, exterminating them all,so they couldn't come back and stop the Cobra plan from being carried out, later on. The attack on the Joes was successful but not complete as three of the Joes: Road Block,Lady Jaye,...

Dwayne Johnson's introduction to the Fast & Furious films acted like a shot in the arm to the flagging car franchise, so producers of GI Joe: Retaliation were likely looking to pull the same trick twice by bringing him into their sequel. On this point there's good news and bad news. The good? This is a better film than its dire 2009 predecessor The Rise of Cobra. The bad? Retaliation is still a preposterous and messy 3D spectacle devoid of any kind of soul.
This time around there's no Sienna Miller, Joseph Gordon-Levitt or Dennis Quaid, instead there's a fresh Joes team that includes Roadblock (Johnson), Lady Jaye (Adrianne Palicki), Flint (DJ Cotrona) and founding member Joe Colton (Bruce Willis). Channing Tatum returns as Duke, but...

Before you see "G.I. Joe: Retaliation" in theaters this weekend, there's a little something you should know about the beloved 1980s G.I. Joe cartoon. Sure, it's about an elite force of American soldiers taking on the evil terrorism of Cobra. But for the most part, the show was next level crazy. The only show that could potentially out-crazy "G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero" is "He-Man and the Masters of the Universe," and that series isn't even set on Earth.
For a show ostensibly about real American heroes, "G.I. Joe" brought the bonkers. Narrowing the series' craziest episodes down was a hard task (almost as hard as the genetic pillaging Cobra undertook to create their master, Serpentor). Here are the five craziest episodes of "G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero."

Lady Jaye is the only female member of the G.I. Joe squad, but as an expert marksman who also handles intelligence, she is more than capable of holding her own alongside her male colleagues. Producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura knew it would be a challenge to find an actress who could embody both the beauty and muscle of this character, and it was Red Dawn and Wonder Woman star Adrianne Palicki who quickly came to mind. "We needed a strong woman who could hold her own and Adrianne is whip smart, beautiful and extremely physically competent, which helps audiences really experience her as one of the G.I. Joe team members," he says. "She has a bit of sass to her and a strength in having to constantly prove herself," Palicki adds when asked what appealed to her most about the character. "She’s a gun specialist and the intelligence...

If you’ve come to Jon M. Chu’s G.I. Joe: Retaliation looking for plot, well, you’ve probably also forgotten what happened the last time we hooked up with America’s elite military force also named after action figures and comic books. While Chu does an admirable enough job cleaning up the mess left behind after 2009’s G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra, the latest entry into the saga of the Joes and all their nifty little gadgets doesn’t manage to amount to more than a pile of fun jokes and one show-stopper of an action sequence. This time around, the Joe gang is unexpectedly abandoned and destroyed by the U.S. government, thanks to a president who insists that the Joes (mainly Snake Eyes) are responsible for the assassination of the Pakistani president, which has thrown the country into utter turmoil. What’s left of the team (and, man...

The Joes are back.
After the Pakastani President is assassinated, insurgents seize the country’s nuclear arsenal and the Joes are sent in to retrieve the codes. After Duke, Roadblock and the Joes are ambushed by Cobra forces, retaliation is set in motion. In director Jon M. Chu’s 3D sequel to the 2009 movie, the team has to take on the Cobra enemy forces and expose an imposter in the oval office.
While the Cobra Commander is set on becoming ruler over all the Earth while causing global destruction through with his “Zeus” weapon, G.I. Joe: Retaliation also focuses on the relationship between Snake Eyes and his arch-enemy Storm Shadow, who was presumed dead at the end of Rise Of Cobra. When we first meet Snake Eyes (Ray Park) again, he is on a search for peace within himself after retreating to the Arashikage to train with the Blind Master (RZA). Once there,...

As Timmy in "Jurassic Park," little Joseph Mazzello held his own against a ticked-off T-Rex and a pair of nasty velociraptors. But now, 20 years later, he's taking on an even nastier enemy: Cobra Command. The actor, now 29, appears in this weekend's "G.I. Joe: Retaliation" as Mouse -- a sniper on a mission with Duke (Channing Tatum), Roadblock (The Rock), Lady Jaye (Adrianne Palicki) and Flint (D.J. Cotrona).Check out a shot of him on set with Palicki and costar Ryan Hansen below:For some, it may be surprising to see Joseph attached to a big name release again -- but he's been working steadily since 1996.After graduating from USC's School of Cinematic Arts, Mazzello appeared in "The Social Network" and starred in HBO's miniseries "The Pacific." He also recently appeared on the fourth season of "Justified."But what happened to the rest of the "Jurassic Park" cast? Check out our gallery above to find out!

Following up the 2009's forgettable "G.I. Joe: The Rise of the Cobra" isn't exactly a difficult task -- but this weekend's sequel definitely delivers the goods. "G.I. Joe: Retaliation" features boys and their lethal toys, The Rock being a badass, some pleasing eye candy and the kid from "Jurassic Park" ... all grown up. What's not to like? The new movie is a quasi-sequel to the 2009 film, with only Channing Tatum, Ray Park, Lee Byung-hun and Jonathan Pryce returning for another go-around. Joining the Joes this time are Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson as Roadblock, Adrianne Palicki as Lady Jaye and D.J. Cotrona as Flint, who try to clear their names after being framed by one of the Cobra Commander's henchmen (who is impersonating the President). While the newcomers are serviceable additions to the cast and Bruce Willis shows up in a minor role, it's Johnson who really shines. The charismatic...

2009 was the year Hasbro announced itself to the world as the Guns N’ Roses of terrible cinematic source material. Transformers, the 2007 adaptation of the popular plastic robot line, was their Appetite for Destruction, both for how readily the title speaks to director Michael Bay’s pyrotechnic obsessions, and for being a wildly successful taste of things to come.
Then, 2009 came along, and Hasbro had their Use Your Illusion I & II moment of awful brilliance -Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, and G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra, released within two months of each other, with a collective Rotten Tomatoes score of 54% approval, and over a billion dollars at the global box office. If you know your G N’ R well enough to have followed this metaphor thus far, then you might be wondering which film would be the equivalent of Guns N’ Roses’ long-delayed, thoroughly disappointing Chinese Democracy. G.I. Joe: Retaliation is that film.

G.I. Joe: Retaliation
Written by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick
Directed by Jon M. Chu
USA, 2013
The latest blockbuster sequel to a mildly profitable first film that doesn’t actually have an enthusiastic fan base, G.I. Joe: Retaliation is admittedly not on the same level of terrible as its Stephen Sommers-directed predecessor. It is still an awful film, but in a different way. Some may have enjoyed elements of 2009’s The Rise of Cobra for an apparent sense of knowing silliness and a relatively light tone, but Retaliation, while still possessing things like RZA playing a blind ninja master, permeates a joyless sense of self-seriousness.
Unlike its predecessor, Retaliation attempts to firmly place itself in some semblance of our contemporary world, with Bono and Jay-z references and tired jokes about Miley Cyrus and Ryan Seacrest. Beyond that, there are nods towards conflict in Pakistan, with one character calling the...

If a big, dumb action movie knows it's a big, dumb action movie and revels in that fact, is that preferable to a big, dumb action movie making the mistake of thinking it's significant, relevant art?
That's the question to ponder – if you can think straight and your ears aren't ringing too badly – during "G.I. Joe: Retaliation." This sequel of sorts to the 2009 blockbuster "G.I. Joe: The Rise of the Cobra" seems to have some cheeky fun with itself, from Bruce Willis cheerily revealing the arsenal he's hiding in his quiet suburban home to RZA from the Wu-Tang Clan essentially showing up and playing himself. A major city is obliterated with the touch of a button and several others are in peril as the world hinges on nuclear destruction in what amounts to a hammy game of chicken.

A better-than-average, gravity-defying ninja duel leads to an epic chase -- by leaps, swings and ziplines -- through the Himalayas in the big set piece sequence of "G.I. Joe: Retaliation."
Masked villains in red ninja suits chase Snake Eyes and Jinx as they attempt to spirit a ninja villain out of a mountaintop lair. They scamper, by rope, across impossible slopes, swinging their swords.
And when a line is cut, the victim yowls into the void. It may be the most dazzling bit of business of its kind from the age of digital stunts.
The rest of the movie? Seriously, it's a live-action version of an '80s cartoon that was designed to sell toys. This is "Transformers" without the Bumblebee Camaro, a lot of action, a few one-liners, and a lot of gunplay. And it was entrusted to the director of the Justin Bieber concert documentary. How good can it be?...

It’s tough to say if I would be as generous with my praise of “G.I. Joe: Retaliation” if I weren’t such a big fan of its director, Jon M. Chu, but given the mechanical one-dimensionality of most big-budget franchise films, the sequel earns its critical bona fides simply by being made by a director who has sincere affection for the source material. Although its delay from the summer of 2012 to spring 2013 spawned rumors of a troubled production, extensive reshoots, and a last-minute effort to squeeze the now-hot Channing Tatum into more scenes, Chu’s follow-up is remarkably cohesive – a fun, sweeping and yet understated sequel that should whet the appetites of action fans without overdosing them on pop confectionaries before the summer buffet truly starts. After staging a successful rescue of nuclear warheads that nefarious foreigners planned to unleash on the rest of the world, Duke (Tatum), Roadblock...

The Joes are reduced to just a trio - Roadblock (Dwayne Johnson), Flint (DJ Cotrona) and Lady Jaye (Adrianne Palicki) - when they're framed for the theft of a Pakistani nuclear warhead and almost blown to bits in the desert. Going rogue, the threesome head back to America and discover that the Us President (Jonathan Pryce) is an imposter in league with their nemesis, Cobra. State-of-the-art action sequences and a breezy style add to the enjoyment of a franchise that never takes itself too seriously.

Though G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra was considered by many to be a complete and utter write-off, it also had a cartoonish and flippant sensibility that resulted in a decent box office haul, making its sequel, G.I. Joe: Retaliation, inevitable. The sequel, however, which finds new director Jon M. Chu and screenwriters Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick attempt to overhaul the series, loses that camp buffoonery and replaces it with an all-too serious military realism that’s sluggish and irritating.

Know this: Whatever your preconceived notions are about "G.I. Joe: Retaliation" -- especially if those notions are based on what you saw in "G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra" -- Jon Chu, the director of this "G.I. Joe" sequel, is actually a G.I. Joe fan. So, yes, gone are the skin-tight black G.I. Joe uniforms from the first film. Also gone is the monstrosity of an outfit that was designed in place of the iconic Cobra Commander uniform. (It's replaced here by an outfit that looks like the iconic Cobra Commander uniform.) In other words: Chu was concerned with making "G.I. Joe: Retaliation" feel like G.I. Joe again.

"G.I. Joe: Retaliation" is opening this week, and we can't wait to finally see some of our favorite actors play some of our favorite childhood characters, including Dwayne Johnson as Roadblock, Channing Tatum as Duke, Ray Park as Snake-Eyes and Adrianne Palicki as Lady Jaye.
The whole thing has us nostalgic for our younger years, which has us thinking about our old "G.I. Joe" action figure collection, which has us imagining ... well, what if our old toys came to life, "Indian in the Cupboard" style, and starred in the movie?
It'd be the first movie with swivel-arm battle grip, that's what.

Still, hopes were high when Paramount acted on the criticism aimed at the first film and decided to reboot the franchise, via the 80s tradition of killing most of the characters and links to the previous instalment.
In came a relatively unknown director, Jon M Chu, as well as a script...
