Following the resounding success of the Yellowstone prequel 1883, creator Taylor Sheridan delved even deeper into the Dutton family history and launched 1923. In an interview, Sheridan shed light on an intriguing aspect of the prequel. He revealed that during the development of 1883, Paramount expressed interest in a storyline that he personally didn’t feel was appropriate just to milk it even more.

10. James Arness (1923–2011)
James Arness is primarily recognized for his iconic portrayal of Marshal Matt Dillon in the long-running prime-time Western TV show Gunsmoke.
From 1955 to 1975, Arness entertained the audience by keeping the peace in Dodge City, but he also starred in legendary movies like Them!, Hondo, The Farmer's Daughter, and others.
9. Lee Marvin (1924–1987)
Famous for his tough and brutal character, Lee Marvin was just as masculine off-screen as he was in his movies. He blew up after portraying Kid Shelleen in Cat Ballou and went on to star in other iconic Western movies, including The Dirty Dozen, The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance, The Big Red One, and many others.
8. Sam Elliott (1944–Now)

Taylor Sheridan’s neo-Western drama series Yellowstone was quite well-received by both fans and critics, especially after the first season. Its success paved the way for a slew of spin-offs. Created by Taylor Sheridan, the show revolves around the Duttons family who must protect their property from outsiders all while dealing with internal conflict.
Taylor Sheridan’s Yellowstone
Yellowstone’s first spinoff was a prequel series, 1883, starring Sam Elliot, Tim McGraw, and more. Following suit, “1923” emerged as another prequel, boasting an enviable lineup led by Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren. When it came to coming back for a second season, Harrison Ford couldn’t be more excited. However, his enthusiasm was met with a stark comment from Taylor Sheridan.

Remember that action flick from 1989, Road House? With its gritty actions and cool characters, especially Patrick Swayze in the lead bouncer, the movie was a big hit. And now, it has gotten a reboot! MGM and Silver Picture dropped the remake on March 8, 2024, with Doug Liman directing and starring Jake Gyllenhaal in the Swayze’s shoes.
Jake Gyllenhaal and Conor McGregor in Road House
But we should not fail to remember the Og cast. They were top-notch, right? Sure, the remake is guaranteed to feature an excellent supporting cast, but it’s cool to see where the old team ended up.
Some are still kicking it in Hollywood, while others have sadly passed on. Either way, they left their mark. So, let’s catch up with the Road House crew and find out what they’ve been up to since the original movie rocked theaters.

Plot: An ex-UFC legend, Dalton (Jake Gyllenhaal), reeling from a tragedy in the ring, takes a job as a bouncer at a troubled bar in the Florida Keys. While there, he gets caught up in a real estate scheme run by a crime lord’s well-connected son.
Review: So here’s the thing. I was super against the idea of remaking Road House. The original film with Patrick Swayze is, in my opinion, one of the greatest B-movies of all time and something of a staple as far as action movies go. It recently made my list of the top 25 action movies ever. Yet, the buzz surrounding Doug Liman’s remake was good, and the trailer sold me on the film 100%. Perhaps too much because I did precisely the wrong thing. I was so psyched by the trailer that I ended up drinking beer and throwing on the original Road House with friends,...

Yellowstone, created by Taylor Sheridan, has quickly gained a reputation as one of the most beloved modern westerns on television. However, Taylor Sheridan, who is famous for works like the Sicario series, Hell or High Water, and Wind River, is under the radar of the fans after Kevin Costner’s departure from the show.
Taylor Sheridan is known for his meticulous writing process and for progressing the story with a definitive ending. However, due to Kevin Costner’s untimely departure from the show and reluctance to return, Sheridan might have to change his writing style. This apparent change in writing has fans worried since Sheridan has to shift from his original ending and work around Costner’s unavailability.

Directed by Doug Liman from a screenplay by Anthony Bagarozzi and Chuck Mondry, Road House starring Jake Gyllenhaal, and Conor McGregor is an upcoming action movie. The movie is said to be a re-imagination of the 1989 film of the same name, which starred Patrick Swayze, Ben Gazzara, Sam Elliot, and more.
The story for Amazon MGM Studios’ upcoming movie follows a former UFC middleweight fighter who ends up working at a roadhouse in the Florida Keys. Gyllenhaal who plays the former UFC fighter struggles to leave his brawling days behind. Road House is one of the highly awaited movies of 2024 but the movie has found itself in the middle of a very concerning lawsuit.

"Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom" is the most contentious of the first three "Indiana Jones" movies. Director Steven Spielberg's filmmaking instincts are sharp as ever, as is Harrison Ford's charisma, and even before the mine tunnel sequence, the film moves like a roller coaster in the best way possible.
But in aping early 20th-century pulp, the film inherits their exoticized distortions of non-American cultures. "Temple of Doom" is mostly set in British-occupied India, but the villains are not these colonizers. No, Indy and co. face off against an indigenous threat: the vicious Thuggee cult that enslaves children and makes human sacrifices to the Hindu god Kali. I'm admittedly not an expert on Indian culture (nor were the writers of the movie), so I'll defer to one who is; Indian-Canadian writer Saffron Maeve has taken the film to task over at Little White Lies. Otherwise, I'll let...

In February 1994, Roger Ebert felt like he was the last one to get to the party when it came to celebrating a new movie. This would usually be a strange thing for a film critic to admit, particularly when he has a Pulitzer Prize. But despite—or perhaps because—he and fellow critic Gene Siskel hosted the nationally syndicated At the Movies TV series, Disney and its film production label Hollywood Pictures went out of their way to keep the men with the thumbs from seeing Tombstone. Even though the new Kurt Russell and Val Kilmer-starring Western enjoyed a vaunted Christmas Day release, the studio was not so much putting out the movie as they were abandoning what seemed like a Yuletide turkey.
Thus the “End of Year” season came and went, along with all the critics groups accolades and awards lists that go with it, and in that...

Bradley Cooper’s “Maestro” publicity tour landed him on “The Howard Stern Show,” where the eponymous radio show host asked him a nail-biting question: “Sophie’s choice for 2024: You win the Oscar, not only for best director but also best actor, and Carey Mulligan wins best actress, or the Eagles have a Super Bowl victory?”
“Eagles Super Bowl victory,” Cooper answered without hesitation as Stern appeared shocked and called him out for lying. “Eagles! Eagles! I’m sick. I’m not lying.”
Cooper is obviously a diehard fan of the Philadelphia Eagles, a team that played a prominent role in his 2012 comedy-drama “Silver Linings Playbook.” The Eagles lost the 2023 Super Bowl to the Kansas City Chiefs, no doubt a heartbreaker for Cooper.
Cooper is widely predicted to earn nominations for the Leonard Bernstein biopic in which he serves as director, actor and co-writer. He’s being viewed as a...

The wait for the last-ever episodes of Yellowstone has been excruciating, but we now know when the final episodes are set to air.
Paramount Network confirmed Thursday that the second half of Yellowstone Season 5 is set to premiere in November 2024.
While the episodes were initially set to premiere this summer, Kevin Costner's availability, as well as the SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes, took the series out of contention for a 2023 return date.
Yellowstone tells the sprawling story of the Dutton family, and the series doesn't exactly have a fast turnaround time when it comes to production.
Amid alleged behind-the-scenes drama, Paramount confirmed earlier this year that the red-hot series would end with these final episodes of the season.
Before the series ending announcement, six episodes remained of Yellowstone Season 5, but there's a good chance that will change now that the last-minute decision to end the show has been made.

Remember when 1883 Season 1 launched on Paramount Network out of Yellowstone?
At the time, a handful of episodes aired before viewers had to stream the rest of the episodes on Paramount+.

Thankfully, those fans are getting their wish and will be able to watch all episodes of 1883 this summer on Paramount Network.
1883, the Yellowstone Origin story, will air weekly on Paramount Network beginning Sunday, June 18 at 8 Pm Et/Pt.
The good TV news doesn't stop there, either.
The special broadcast will include extended featurettes at the end of each episode, meaning 1883 fanatics can get an inside look at how the episodes were made, among other things.

In 1993, "Tombstone" assembled a cast for the ages to tell the story of Wyatt Earp, Doc Holliday, and the legendary gunfight at the O.K. Corral. The throwback Western, led by Kurt Russell and Val Kilmer -- in what is perhaps Kilmer's best performance -- showcases a lot of tough guys in cowboy hats as it dramatizes real events that took place before and after the gunfight in Tombstone, Arizona, circa 1881. Special effects make the gunfight seem real, but thirty years later, in the age of "Ted Lasso," perhaps the most impressive effect on display in "Tombstone" is the mustaches, not the machismo.
As Earp, his brothers Virgil (Sam Elliot) and Morgan (Bill Paxton), and Holliday come walking over the hill on their way to the Corral, they all sport period-appropriate mustaches. So, too, do their enemies, the red-sashed Cowboys, led by "Curly Bill" Brocius (Powers Boothe) and Holliday's rival,...

The Dude is down for a “Big Lebowski” sequel 25 years after its release.
Oscar winner Jeff Bridges told People he would be open to reprising his iconic role of The Dude for a follow-up film, so long as writer-directors Joel and Ethan Coen are involved.
“Oh God! If the brothers were involved, I certainly would,” Bridges said of returning to the 1998 comedy classic. “The brothers, they’re mysterious and full of surprises. You don’t know what they’re going to do, so since they’re surprising, I don’t think they’ll make a sequel. But like I say, they’re surprising, so maybe they’ll surprise me and make a sequel.”
“The Big Lebowski” also starred Ben Gazzara, John Goodman, Julianne Moore, Steve Buscemi, Sam Elliot, Tara Reid, John Turturro, and Philip Seymour Hoffman.
Bridges shared that he is in awe that it’s been over two decades since the film premiered.

The honorary Oscar recipient will star in “Lawmen: Bass Reeves” in a recurring role. Sutherland will portray Judge Isaac Parker, who is described as “an imposing and commanding judge in the Fort Smith Courthouse with a complicated legacy.” .
Previously titled “Bass Reeves,” the Paramount+ series will now be officially titled “Lawmen: Bass Reeves” and will be an anthology series. The first season will follow the titular Reeves, who was the first Black deputy U.S. marshal west of the Mississippi River and who was known as one of the greatest frontier heroes in American history. Taylor Sheridan’s sprawling Yellowstone franchise continues to expand with new spinoff shows even as the flagship show goes through a ton of behind-the-scenes drama. The latest addition brings the star power of Matthew McConaughey into the mix. As of now, details on the project are scarce. However, the mere presence of McConaughey is enough to excite Yellowstone star Josh Lucas about what’s to come for the series in the future.
McConaughey is the latest star to join the ‘Yellowstone’ universe
After months of speculation, McConaughey’s entrance into the Yellowstone world was finally confirmed at the end of March. The role ends the actor’s three-year hiatus from the profession. Nothing about the plot or McConaughey’s character has yet been released, but considering the premises of the other Yellowstone off-shoots, the show will likely also be another trip into the past to fill out the lore of the Dutton Ranch.

The massive success of the Paramount+ series Yellowstone has led to two prequels that have also been well-received. In the first prequel, 1883, the Duttons are heading west through dangerous events and sweeping landscapes. Along the way, there was a moving scene between Shea (played by Sam Elliot) and Elsa (Isabel May). But according to Elliot, the scene was originally set up to start differently–and he never thought it would work.

Sometimes one role can define an actor’s career. Sam Elliott plays such an actor in late life, facing his own mortality and coming to grips with his life and career, in the sometimes funny, sometimes touching drama The Hero. The Hero is an intimate personal drama that draws on universal human concerns in a story that is by turns comic, bittersweet or moving. Writer/director Brett Haley’s thoughtful film has the same feel of authenticity as his previous one, I’LL See You In My Dreams, in which Elliott co-starred with Blythe Danner. Like that film, The Hero is a life-affirming film that portrays older adults as fully rounded individuals living in this present world instead of two-dimensional types, human beings with brains, a sense of humor and romantic lives.

Blending the coming-of-age formula with a musical journey makes for a fitting collaboration. During those formative years, when we as teenagers attempt to discover exactly who we are and how we fit into this world, our own quest is often enriched, and illustrated by a soundtrack, as our change in mentality and outlook is matched by our musical choices, constantly discovering new sounds, bands and artists that change our own perception of the world we inhabit. Then there’s the social element, epitomised in Almost Famous – in how this art-form brings us together with other likeminded individuals – and this is what lays down the foundations for Ash Brannon’s animation Rock Dog to thrive off, steeped in relatable themes. Only difference is, our protagonist is a dog.

The series of absurd events from last week's Fargo appeared to signal a clearer focus, a kind of normalcy settling into its exaggerated mischievery. Naturally, that was yet another feint. I'm not sure if creator Noah Hawley has a master plan that stitches everything together in some epic fashion (over the next two episodes), or he's just just trying to see how many abnormalities and quirks he can pile-up before a Minnesota blizzard knocks it all down.
If you haven't seen this week's episode yet, go change your drawers, because Hawley elevates the weird to an entirely new level... and by that I mean bloody. And surreal. And then bloodier still.

In today's roundup we have a much anticipated soundtrack list, a trailer, poster, and some exciting news for those of you following Captain Marvel's production!
Star-Lord (Chris Pratt), Gamora (Zoe Saldana), Rocket (Bradley Cooper), Drax (Dave Bautista), and our personal favourite, Baby Groot (voiced by Vin Diesel), are back in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2! They're facing off against a new enemy looking to cleanse the universe - and (hopefully) saving the galaxy again, with Yondu (Michael Rooker) and Nebula (Karen Gillan) along for the ride.
One of our favourite parts of the first installment was the kickass song choices. The soundtrack was just released for Vol.2 and it doesn't disappoint! Check out the list below and see Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.

Welcome to The Top 5, where every week, we list five things for a given topic. These topics can range from "5 Things We Liked About The Power Rangers Teaser Trailer" to "5 Things We Want (Or Don't Want) In Ben Affleck's The Batman."

You don’t get a lot of animated features that sneak up on you these days, but the marketing promotion for Rock Dog seems to have been drowned out by award season buzz over the last few months. With no connection to something you already know, and an odd-sounding plot, the film hasn’t managed nearly enough attention recently, but some new clips will hopefully change that.
The film revolves around the Tibetan Mastiffs who protect Snow Mountain from wolves. Life is rather simple for the dogs, until one day Bodi (Luke Wilson) finds a radio and decides that he wants to be a rock-and-roll star. From there, the story wanders a familiar road that involves chasing dreams, defying fathers, and exploring beyond the world you know, but if these latest nuggets can be believed, it brings it all together rather well.

Welcome back to the Weekend Warrior, your weekly look at the new movies hitting theaters this weekend, as well as other cool events and things to check out.
This Past Weekend:
Presidents' Day weekend was an interesting one at the box office, and as with most holiday weekends, it was particularly difficult to figure out how things might fare, other than The Lego Batman Movie, which remained at #1 with almost $45 million over the four-day weekend. Fifty Shades Darker followed with $21.3 million, about a 50% drop. Last week, I thought that the Ice Cub comedy Fist Fight would beat The Great Wall, although it seemed like it could be a close race. Nope. Matt Damon’s action epic came in third place with $21.6 million, which is a couple million more than my original prediction, but The Fist Fight fell short of my prediction by almost $10 million, grossing $14.5 million in its first four days.

The Sundance Film Festival is officially over and the awards have already been handed out, both the official ones and our own Unconventional Awards, and out of the roughly thirty films I saw during my time in Park City, Utah, I’ve put together a list of the ten very best movies I had a chance to see. Many of them will be coming to theaters across the country later in the year, and a few of them may even be in the Oscar conversation a year from now.
10. The Big Sick
Silicon Valley’s Kumail Nanjiani made his triumphant debut as a leading man with this movie produced by Judd Apatow, directed by Michael Showalter (Hello, My Name is Doris) and co-written with wife Emily V. Gordon. Based on their own experiences in courting and how Emily (played by Zoe Kazan) being put into a medically-induced coma affected it,...

Welcome to the first, hopefully annual, Weekend Warrior Sundance Awards, where I go through the couple dozen movies I had a chance to see over the course of the past week and pick some of my favorite things.
I ended up seeing roughly thirty movies in total, only walking out of a couple (that won’t be mentioned), and overall, it was a generally decent Sundance, although only a few movies really stood out and will be remembered later in the year when we start talking about next year’s Oscars.
Oddly, I missed many of the movies that won actual awards at Sundance, so I’ve decided to give a few of my own.

Later this week, Lrm will be attending this year’s Sundance Film Festival. While the festival tends to be a mixed bag of indie films, some will be picked up for distribution by studios and turned into mainstream hits, others will flounder and be lucky to get a VOD release. Even so, there’s no denying that Sundance is the real beginning of the year for most movie lovers as we’ll be talking about the movies below for the next 12 months.
Last year alone, Sundance held the premieres for The Birth of a Nation, Manchester by the Sea, Captain Fantastic, Love and Friendship, The Hunt for the Wilderpeople, Sing Street and many more films, some that appeared on The Weekend Warrior’s year-end Top 25. One or two of those might even receive Oscar nominations when they’re announced next week on January 24.

Few film festivals in the world create bidding wars for titles quite like the Sundance Film Festival. Last year, Sundance saw the biggest deal in its history when Fox Searchlight bought “The Birth of a Nation” for $17.5 million. Though some of the films in the upcoming slate have already been acquired, many are looking to find a home during the 2017 festival, which takes place between January 19 and January 29 in Park City, Utah.

Though I’m sure it wasn’t the first, Road House is one of the first action movies I can remember that was equally enjoyed by male and female. Fresh off of the success of Dirty Dancing, Patrick Swayze stepped up to play badass bar bouncer Dalton, an expert at his craft, but still a stranger in a strange land. Based on reputation alone, Dalton is hired by the owner of a notorious bar called the Double Deuce. It seems the bar has been taken over by the seedy elements that haunt it, and so it’s time for Dalton to clean it up. When he realizes that the it’s the town that houses the bar that is the root of the corruption, Dalton calls in his good friend and mentor Wade Garrett, played cooler and badder-assed than ever by Sam Elliott, to help him tear it to the ground.

Cast one eye over Netflix’s slate for the next few months and the main highlights that catch the eye include the current run of House of Cards, Daredevil‘s sophomore outing come March and the return of the inimitable and Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt.
That’s a promising lineup; one that is all but set to uphold – if not emulate – the platform’s high bar of quality. But based on today’s first trailer, Netflix’s upcoming comedy series The Ranch falls more in line with Fuller House than the company’s greatest hits.
Ashton Kutcher, Sam Elliot and Debra Winger anchor the family drama, with the former playing the role of a football player that has witnessed his career come crashing down. In its place, he’s ordered to the family farm, forced to acclimatize to a life that he thought he left behind.
