Samuel L. Jackson is certainly no stranger to the role of a hitman, and now he's getting ready to do it all again. The big difference this time will be that instead of gasps, he'll be going for laughs. The Academy Award-nominated star has signed a deal that will see him starring in the new action comedy The Black Phantom, which already has Kevin Hart attached in a co-lead role. According to Deadline, the role - which is actually the title part - previously belonged to Jamie Foxx. Unfortunately, Foxx was unable to keep his commitment due to a scheduling conflict, but his departure is what opened the door for Jackson. Based on an original screenplay by Dave Lease and Megan Hinds, the comedy will see Kevin Hart playing a hitman who has to go on the run when he is double-crossed by his employers. The really bad news for...

Is Samuel L. Jackson stepping into a role vacated by Jamie Foxx? A new report suggests just that, and it's the title role of "The Black Phantom." Screen Gems' upcoming film was due to star Kevin Hart and Jamie Foxx, but the latter had to drop out over scheduling conflicts. Now, according to Deadline, Nick Fury is getting involved. Although "The Black Phantom" does have a very comics-friendly title, it is much more comedy than comic. The story revolves around a double-crossed hitman for the mob (played by Hart) and the man hired to kill him. The latter individual is known as "The Black Phantom," and is the part at which Jackson is looking. The article describes the movie as "an outrageously inappropriate comedy," and Jackson is the sort of actor who regularly appears comfortable saying the most over the top sorts of lines. He has not yet appeared...

Screen Gems’ action comedy The Black Phantom just took a giant step forward with word that A-lister Samuel L. Jackson is in talks to join Kevin Hart in the film, playing the title role. Jackson replaced Jamie Foxx in the role after the Django Unchained star was forced to depart due to scheduling conflicts.
Screen Gems has prioritized the comedy since the smashing success of Hart’s Ride Along, which, like The Black Phantom, found Hart being directed by Tim Story. This time around, Story is working from what was originally a spec script by Dave Lease and Megan Hinds. As for the plot, Deadline describes the film as, “an outrageously inappropriate comedy where no topic is off limits in an odd partnership formed between a clever double-crossed mob hitman (Hart) and the notorious hit man The Black Phantom, who has been hired to kill him.”

After his despicable role in Django Unchained, Samuel L. Jackson will be returning to our screens as a villain again early next year in Kingsman: The Secret Service. It seems he’s on a run of playing bad people at the moment, as he’s now in talks to snatch the title role in The Black Phantom. The film finds Kevin Hart working again with his Ride Along director Tim Story, playing a double-crossed mob hit man who learns that – in the grand tradition of movie hit men – his old bosses now want to kill him. And the man tasked with the job? Notorious assassin the Black Phantom. But somehow, a different dynamic emerges. While it sounds like it could be a gritty thriller, it’s actually a comedy, with Jackson looking to stretch his funny muscles again and work for the first time opposite Hart, who is on a roll at the moment.

Funnyman Kevin Hart has been having a pretty stellar year so far. Both Ride Along, Hart’s January action comedy with Ice Cube, and About Last Night, his modern romantic comedy, earned generally positive reviews and became runaway box-office successes (Ride Along had the highest opening gross ever in the month of January). With rom-com sequel Think Like A Man Too set to give Hart three for three this June, it doesn’t look like he’ll be fading away from the multiplex anytime soon.
Now, Variety is reporting that Hart is close to signing on to star alongside Jamie Foxx (who, with The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Rio 2, Horrible Bosses 2 and Annie on the way, is looking at a very successful 2014 himself) in Screen Gems’ action comedy The Black Phantom.
The studio is also currently in talks with Ride Along director Tim Story to helm the flick. Will Packer and Will Gluck are producing.

With "Ride Along" banking $130 million at the Us box office, it's not surprise that Kevin Hart and director Tim Story are staying closely tied. They've already got a sequel to the hit comedy in the works, and later this year the pair is dropping "Think Like A Man Too." And now, they're cooking up another movie, one that will pair Hart with another major comedic talent. Variety reports that Hart and Foxx (two names made to be together on a movie poster) will star in "The Black Phantom," with Story directing. Dave Lease and Megan Hinds penned the script that follows a hitman who enlists the assistance of The Black Phantom... who had been sent to kill him. Sounds like an unlikely buddy/team-up scenario which is kinda perfect for these two. This one is probably still a while off from going in front of cameras, but it looks like...
