In 2023, it was announced that a Twilight reboot TV series was in the works at Lionsgate, and now the company is offering more background on the latest adaptation of Stephenie Meyer‘s best-selling book series. Instead of envisioning a live-action remake, Lionsgate is opting to take the animated route for this television venture. The show is being shopped around with a John Wick offshoot which Lionsgate’s Vice Chairman Michael Burns revealed during a Q&a at the Morgan Stanley media conference, according to Deadline. “We’re going to go out with the Twilight series, an animated series, I think there’ll be a lot of interest in that,” Burns said. Kristen Stewart is revealing just how little the studio behind “Twilight” knew about the lustful YA novel it was adapted from.
The “Love Lies Bleeding” star and “Spencer” Oscar nominee shared during a Rolling Stone cover story that the 2008 film, directed by Catherine Hardwicke, had studio pressure to be a “movie for kids” despite the saucy subject matter. While Stewart did not name the studio executives, the rights to the “Twilight” novel were acquired by Summit Entertainment, who distributed the feature film.
Robert Pattinson starred in the “Twilight” films as undead vampire Edward Cullen who becomes obsessed with high schooler Bella Swan (Stewart), who in turn wishes to be killed and transformed into a vampire to forever be with Edward.
Happy Valentine’s Day!
A love triangle ensues between the tumultuously toxic couple and Bella’s family friend Jacob, a werewolf played by Taylor Lautner.

Twilight director Catherine Hardwicke has some thoughts on who would be cast as the main characters if the film were to be rebooted today.
During an appearance on the Happy Sad Confused podcast to discuss the film 15 years after it originally came out, the filmmaker chimed in on who she’d want to play Edward Cullen and Bella Swan in a film today.
When asked if Jacob Elordi and Jenna Ortega would portray the two main characters, Hardwicke admitted, “Oh, that would be perfect,” she said, adding of Elordi, “I mean, he’s amazing. He probably would be Edward today.”
She explained that so many people come to mind when she thinks about who could be cast in the roles in the present day. Model Lewis Tan approached her recently and told her he went out for the role of Jacob Black, which eventually went to Taylor Lautner.

Robert Pattinson needed a makeover to transform into Edward Cullen, according to “Twilight” director Catherine Hardwicke.
While appearing on the “Happy Sad Confused” podcast to mark the 15th anniversary of the beloved 2008 film, Hardwicke recalled how studio Summit Entertainment was skeptical Pattinson could “look good” as the heartthrob character.
“When he came over to my house, he had black bangs for hair and was kind of out of shape because he was hanging out at the pub all the time,” Hardwicke said of first auditioning Pattinson. “I sent it to Summit and he went over to meet them. They called me back and go, ‘Do you think you can make this guy look good?'”
Hardwicke continued, “I said, ‘Yeah, I do. Did you see his cheekbones? We’re doing a makeover on the hair and everything and he’s going to start working out and he’s going to be gorgeous.

“Twilight” director Catherine Hardwicke hopes the upcoming TV series adaptation sinks its teeth deeper into the forbidden romance at the center of the teen vampire saga.
Hardwicke helmed the first film that was released in 2008 and starred Kristen Stewart as high schooler Bella and Robert Pattinson as undead bloodsucker Edward. The director stepped away from the franchise after the initial film’s mixed reception and was replaced by Chris Weitz. Lionsgate recently announced a TV series adaptation in early development over a decade since the film series concluded in 2012.
“I think it’s exciting,” Hardwicke told MovieWeb of the upcoming show. “I think we see that it’s an enduring story that people keep engaging with. You know, the TikTok world loves it, the internet generations, everybody keeps finding it. I was talking to a girl the other day, she was born the year we made the first ‘Twilight’ film,...

“Twilight” may be coming to TV!
The popular “Twilight” novels by Stephenie Meyer is in early development at Lionsgate TV to be turned into a potential television series, Et has confirmed.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, which first broke the news, “Tell Me Lies” producer Sinead Daly is attached to write the script for the “Twilight” project. It is unclear at the moment whether the possible series would be a direct adaptation of Meyer’s novels, which inspired the multibillion-dollar five-movie franchise, or a different take. Meyer is said to be involved in the potential series.
A Lionsgate TV spokesperson declined to comment.
Meyer’s Twilight novels were a series of four fantasy romance novels that were published annually from 2005 through 2008. Told primarily from Bella Swan’s point of view, the books chronicled her tumultuous love story with vampire Edward Cullen. In 2020, Meyer released Midnight Sun, which retold the events of the first book,...

Just as “Harry Potter” will get a TV remake and “The Hunger Games” will see a prequel, all the old YA franchises from the late aughts are suddenly new again. Now, the most (in)famous book series from that period may soon follow, with “Twilight.”
Sources confirmed to IndieWire that Lionsgate TV is in early development on a show based on “The Twilight Saga,” Stephenie Meyer’s four-book series about the romance between clumsy high schooler Bella and sadboi emo vampire Edward. It’s early days with no network or streamer attached to the the project, which would be the second adaptation after the film series that began in 2008 starring Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson.
Meyer is expected to be involved in some capacity, and Wyck Godfrey and Erik Feig will executive produce. Sinead Daly is attached to write the show, which may be a full remake or an offshot of the original story.

Looks like Lionsgate saw what Warner Bros. Discovery is aiming to do with Harry Potter and said to itself, "Let's try that!" Or at least something similar as The Hollywood Reporter brings word that a Twilight TV series is at an early stage.
Sinead Daly, whose credits include Walking Dead: World Beyond and Raised By Wolves is attached to write the script for a potential Twilight show. THR reports that Daly is working with Lionsgate TV to determine what the specific take on the story will be and if it will be a remake of author Stephanie Meyer’s books about the star-crossed love between lip-chewing human high schooler Bella (Kristen Stewart in the movies) and brooding, sparkly vampire Edward (Robert Pattinson) or a different offshoot.
So it remains to be seen if we'll be meeting a new take on Bella, Edward and the rest, or if this will be a whole new story.
